:O

avacyn is insane with displacer

cast, sac a scion. when she flips next upkeep don't let the ability resolve and displace her: 3 damage on the opponent and his creatures while your creatures live as they are indestructible, and she comes back unflipped so that you can do it again as long as you have sac outlets such as the scions.

:O

Would be a good way to save her from removal if nothing else. The smart guy just has to kill Displacer during an exile though right?

DemonDragonJ one of the transforming rare/mythic cards on the second checklist card is gold, but the name is blacked out. Also Sorin isn't likely to be mono colour, and neither is Arlinn Kord. Also, the new Avacyn is technically multicolour.

Not sure why no one mentioned it, but there's a new Hanweir Chronicle article, talking about a speedy and productive town hall meeting. Apparently an angel was attacking the bell, the open air market closed, and they decided to keep the symbol of Avacyn above the church.

Just need to figure out what is SOO damn important about Hanweir. It's not even mentioned thoroughly in the Wikis. It's a town in the province of Gavony, in the region of Nearheath. It's described as the Agricultural gem of the region, where Kessig trappers go to sell their wares, and where livestock is sold.

Also, in the Uncharted Realms article, I don't think the New Angel Art is Gisela. Gisela dual wields, and also, Sigarda would have commented on how she looked alien in appearance to her normal self. No. I believe that art was the art of the fallen sister.

Only time will tell though I think the Hanweir is where humanity will begin to make its stand seeing how they've survived multiple angel attacks so far.

I want the buddy lands to be reprinted! $12 is rediculous for cards that the core set printings are $3! Plus, that would be sick with the man lands from OGW!

And I want Katheryn Winnick on my couch, but that also doesn't happen. I don't think we'll see anything other than the finishing of the Tangocycle.

I just noticed there will be a deckbuilder's toolkit with SoI. Yay

March 11, 2016 9:17 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #16

The Deckbuilder's toolkits are great ways to get newer players into the game, and also are great boxes for holding several decks. I still have my M14 deckbuilder's toolkit box that I hold my Commander decks in. (FWIW, it holds 3 Commander decks).

March 11, 2016 9:25 a.m.

Rayenous says... #17

I'm wondering if the Deck Builders toolkit is going to adopt the 'extra cards' feature that the recent Core Set Deck Builders Toolkits had. - 5-10 extra cards, not printed in the set (not found in booster packs), but are still legal in Standard.

March 11, 2016 10 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

Rayenous - They could get away with it in a Core Set, I'm not sure they could in a regular set release.

March 11, 2016 10:01 a.m.

Rayenous says... #19

maiden77 - I'm hoping they print the other half of the Tangos as well... but mainly so that people will stop calling them 'Battle Lands'.

March 11, 2016 10:02 a.m.

Rayenous says... #20

JWiley129 - So long as the cards they use are 'on theme', I think it would still be okay.

New Soul Sister/Aristocrat card:

Pious Evangel - 2w

Whenever Pious Evangel or another creature enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life.

2, tap: Sacrifice another permanent. Transform Pious Evangel. 2/2

Wayward Disciple

When Wayward Disciple or another creature you control dies, target opponent loses 1 life, and you gain 1 life.

2/4

GotCubes says... #22

I like the concept of Pious Evangel, but it's definitely too slow to see play in Soul Sisters. I like the idea in standard aristocrats though.

Unfortunate, as I feel this makes Enemy Tango Lands less likely.

Remember that these lands are here more for Draft than they are for Constructed. So their existence doesn't prevent them from having a rare dual-land cycle nor an enemy dual land cycle

Rayenous says... #30

Quick analysis of card numbers of land spoiled so far.

297 cards in set.

Assuming 3 different art of each basic land - 15 cards - 282 is the final land slot for non-basics.

273 - Forsaken Sanctuary
274 - - Unknown -
275 - Foul Orchard
276 - - Unknown -
277 - Highland Lake
278 - - Unknown -
279 - Stone Quarry
280 - Warped Landscape
281 - - Unknown -
282 - Woodland Stream
283+ Basics

So there's at least 4 more land, plus any that fall before 'Forsaken Sanctuary', alphabetically.

This still leaves a lot of possibilities, but the most likely is a 5 card cycle with 1 or more falling before the Sacntuary.

Note also that the Evolving Wilds slot, as well as the slot for Ghost Quarter reprint are still possible.

Oh, and for all those 'Eldrazi Cultists', Wastes could still go into 281.

Could Minaldra be the WB angel? I'd love that, but it seems like she's dead now, according to the most recent lore from wizards. But it could be possible that she's still around in a graveyard matters set. (How awesome would it be if there were zombie angels?)

i think what MagicalShrek means is why its uncommon when the gates from Return to Ravnica are essentially the same but at common and the +1 life lands (?) from Khans of Tarkir which are strictly better are commons as well

March 11, 2016 8:15 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #41

@tempest/MagicalShrek They are uncommon since mana fixing isn't as necessary. In Khans, we were incentivized to play three colors. In SoI, it looks like most decks will be 1-2 color decks. This makes the mana fixing less necessary, so making them uncommon decreases the chance of the lands being opened.

March 11, 2016 8:20 p.m.

AgentGreen says... #42

The tap-lands will most likely not see any standard play. Pain lands still rule

March 11, 2016 8:22 p.m.

IzzetGod says... #43

AgentGreen: Pain Lands will still rule, but remember that we only have the enemy color Pain Lands. The Ally colors will most likely play the Tango Lands and 1-3 copies of the Allied colored ones from Oath. Depending on the Rare cycle from this set.

Here's a bit of speculation- what if Nahiri had been imprisoned in the Helvault this entire time?

It would certainly explain where she's been, and I think Sorin would be able to manage that much, pre-mending.

Or Avacyn and Nahiri are linked as part of the ritual Sorin did to make Avacyn, but Nahiri had to put inside the Helvault in order for it to work.

March 12, 2016 5:13 a.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #45

Dedicated 2-colour control decks will usually run a couple of those, especially because the default control colours, UW and UB, currently don't have pain lands. Other than that, there's legit no reason for them to make it into Standard.

March 12, 2016 7:04 a.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #46

Return to Ravnica and Khans were strictly two-colour/three-colour sets. There was almost not deck that didn't run decks that had three-colour requirements on at least 3-5 cards. Ravnica had very strict requirements towards 2-colour on a good 50% of the cards in your deck. Fixing was essential in these sets. While slightly Two-Colour orientated, the Gold Cards are very few in more recent sets, and it won't be much different in Shadows. As such, fixing is mandatory and only exists at uncommon.

March 12, 2016 8:11 a.m.

Guftders

I like that idea. It would mean that either:

  1. Nahiri created the Helvault and screwed up while creating it, accidentally trapping herself inside. But this option doesn't explain her hate towards Sorin.

  2. This one is a bit far fetched. Helvault was there so avacyn could imprison demons. What if Nahiri somehow turned into a demon (like mutation or something) or something that looks like a demon, and got imprisoned by Avacyn? Avacyn was created by Sorin, so maybe Nahiri didn't know what avacyn was created to do. There might have been a misunderstanding, and she thought Sorin created avacyn to imprison her. While inside the Helvault, she regained her humanity, went insane from all the demons around her, and hated Sorin for it.

Any other ideas for Nahiri's imprisonment?

March 12, 2016 8:45 a.m.

addaff says... #48

Guftders & Nightdragon779. Nahiri was encased in stone at the Eye of Ugin. Ugin and Sorin promised they would come back if something went wrong. Obviously siron never did come back and that pissed her off. So Nahiri went to look for him on Innistrad.

March 12, 2016 11:20 a.m. Edited.

kanokarob says... #49

Nahiri was never imprisoned on Zendikar, and I find it unlikely that she was in the Helvault.

March 12, 2016 11:31 a.m.

jwe94 says... #50

The main reason Nahiri is mad is that some 6000 years prior to the Eldrazi breaking free, their prison was weakened (not enough for the titans to return though) and when she tried to get Sorin to come back he apparently blew her off which was particularly painful because they had a father daughter-esque relationship.
