Announced during GP Indy, the Spring 2016 set is Shadows over Innistrad!
Edits for FAQ:
- Here is Mark Rosewater on why we're getting two returns in a row.
One of my hopes is that over the course of the next few sets, there will be at least a few clues to hint at the possibility that Emrakul is present in the background or was present recently, but isnt causing significant damage to the plane or its plot, until the Gatewatch finally gathers all the clues and meet again to take her on.

We should check out the plane page for Innistrad and note the legendary creatures...

Don't you mean on the Chapel page? All I see is Vampires on the Manor page. Though that different art for Olivia Voldaren looks awesome.

What is the point of having that dual land cycle in this set, or the dual lands in Oath of the Gatewatch? They are perhaps the worst dual lands in their entire game, as they enter the battlefield tapped, have no option to enter untapped, and have no upsides to compensate for that. Why could WotC not simply have reprinted the life-gaining dual lands from the Tarkir block, with the new artwork, rather than using interesting names on mediocre cards?
March 13, 2016 3:49 p.m.
DemonDragonJ - Because there are more formats than just the ones you care about? Because Wizards wants to be able to have a cycle of "standard" dual lands that are the bottom of the barrel? Because Wizards wants to spite you? Which answer will make you happy?
March 13, 2016 4:01 p.m.
DemonDragonJ: Try playing a multicolor deck in Draft without those Lands. Or only have a rare land cycle where in order to have a duel land; you need extreme luck compared to opening an uncommon. They're also nice for people who budget. If this wasn't the case; we'd probably have the Shock Lands reprinted quite a few times. Or at least something similar to them.
March 13, 2016 5:48 p.m.
Not to mention that ANY dual lands have a likelihood of seeing EDH play.
March 13, 2016 5:53 p.m.
I think there should be a cycle of 10 lands which go like this:
Cathar's Shrine
Cathar's Shrine enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add R or W to your mana pool.
When Cathar's Shrine enters the battlefield, investigate.
March 13, 2016 5:58 p.m.
that would be awesome. I am digging the investigate mechanic
March 13, 2016 6:55 p.m.
Too bad at the moment there's only room for 5 or so more lands in the set.

That would actually work flavor-wise as well, because there could be Clues hidden everywhere, and the lands would represent those areas. That would be interesting.
Also, Ludevic needs to be a card. For those who don't know, he's the guy who gave us Ludevic's Test Subject Flip.

JWiley129, I do not wish to go as far as to say that WotC is deliberately attempting to spite the players, but they do seem to print "really good" dual lands very rarely (and, by "really good," I mean dual lands that have the option to enter the battlefield untapped and produce two colors of mana without drawbacks or conditions, such as the shocklands or check lands), instead much more frequently printing dual lands that always enter the battlefield tapped or have a drawback, as do the painlands.
IzzetGod, in my mind, WotC panders far too heavily to players who draft or otherwise play limited formats, rather than supporting players who can afford to purchase single cards to build pre-constructed decks. I would very much like to see WotC appeal to both sets of players, and a great way to do that would be to have dual lands at both rare and common/uncommon rarities.

I just can't wait to build a 2-3 color (NON-BLUE SO FUCK OFF 90$ JACE) standard deck where my manabase totals 20$ or less (even though I've played Mardu Green this entire season :P).
And I think I speak for most of the Magic Community when I say that 3-4 color decks with perfect mana were fun, but got really annoying really fast to the point where manabase restrictions are a GOOD thing (never thought I'd say that) that keeps the format's power-level and buy-in cost in check.

DemonDragonJ - Well you're wrong. Simple as that. I could go into that right now, but I don't want to because of three reasons. 1) Your tone is grating. 2) You would just pass everything off as something it's not. 3) I just don't like you.
March 13, 2016 10:15 p.m.
JWiley129: Of course they'll pander the Limited Events. That's where they sell their products/supplies.
March 13, 2016 10:26 p.m.
IzzetGod - I really resent the opinion that Wizards shouldn't print cards like Meandering River because they're "worse than what we already have." If the card isn't for you, it's not for you, and you can move on.
March 13, 2016 10:30 p.m.
JWiley129: Apologies. I meant to reply to DemonDragonJ.
March 13, 2016 10:37 p.m.
For people who care and will listen, here was the reason why they made the Meandering River cycle, so that reasoning can be extended to the SOI cycle.
IzzetGod - Fair enough. But my point still stands.
March 13, 2016 10:39 p.m.
The way I'm looking at it is from an edh standpoint.
Sure it's another shitty tapped land in standard but say I want to build noyan dar edh. Meandering river a much for flavorful include then other b/w tapped lands adding a bit of a personal touch to my deck. I actually run each of the tap lands from oath in my tazri edh deck solely for flavor purposes.
Not to mention that every dual land out there is on some level playable. Cause let's face it there are budget players who'll be to cheap for super expensive lands or even paying 2-3 dollars per land instead of Maybe 50 cents each. I've seen guys at my lgs come in with esper control with a full play set of tranquil cove and dismal backwater. Does that make them bad? Hell no they still did fairly well and placed once or twice. Point is DemonDragonJ wizards isn't "pandering" to the limited environment. They're pandering to kitchen table players and those of us who can't afford to by fetchlands but want competive decks in standard. And that as far as I've seen is the majority of players myself included. So do not sass our very nice new lands and keep shelling out $20 a pop for fetchlands. I'll use my meandering river thank you very much
March 13, 2016 11:29 p.m.
I'd be happy with mono-colored scry lands. I think they would also fitting flavorwise, considering you're investigating the state of your deck and looking for clues on how to win the game when you scry.

Innistrad was my favorite set, and I have been playing since Legends was still on the shelves. Moxen were under $100, all that jazz. And I still think Innistrad was the best set that was put out, flavor-wise (caveat: I didn't play between Masques and Zendikar). Dear Avacyn, if you would please give me some 1-3 CMC curved out Angels, I will build an angel tribal deck, forsaking all others, and Worship you forever. Sincerely, AbdulBaqr.

I mean, they made eldrazi have a perfect curve, I wouldn't see why not any other tribal.

She encased herself in stone(being a lithomancer and all) and meditated for thousands of years.
She then went to Innistrad to find Sorin. Reorganized his house while he was away declaration in stone and set up cryptoliths as seen in warped landscape.
Theory time. Tamiyo' journal - "Entry 434: There's more to Avacyn's madness ..." Pour over the pages - "I'm certain that the fate of Markov Manor is connected to these cryptoliths...' This Tamiyo was on to something." Points to the fact that nahiri is the cause of all changes on Innistrad.
Warped landscape "Each cryptolith twists the plane's mana, bending to a singular purpose." Nahiri setting up the cryptoliths. Pieces of the puzzle - "The clues have begun to reveal a truth I hesitate to accept." Jace is studying the cryptoliths. Either he is shocked that a planeswalker corrupted the plane (not likely since he did just have a run in with ob nixilis) or that they served another purpose. Then we have (one of) the wierd card thraben inspector - "If you've been at this as long as I have, nothing can surprise you. That's the hope, at least." She is inspecting spaghetti like "corruption" from one of the buildings. While I don't exactly believe emrakul is there, but via warped landscape it can look like Nahiri is summoning something. Also, it has some pink roots/filaments in the picture. Back to the inspector, i view the flavor text coming from the writer's standpoint. Just because their is no mention of it (emrakul) doesn't mean that she won't show up.
