I've never seen Sorin express any amount of concern/emotion about Avacyn other than her ability to keep Innistrad balanced.

Sorin isn't exactly a show how you feel kind of guy. Still, i imagine destroying the one good thing you created isn't a fun thing to do.

On another note, this card will absolutely see constructed play.

Welp, i guess we're up for another coule of months of abzan good stuff...

I do like the flavor of losing life on thecard to reflect the pain of killing your kid.

Apparently it's also the Game Day promo.

I can see it in both.
You know what else is black? Ink. And what makes ink? An octopus. And who summons octopi? Kiora.
Kiora confirmed as the real mastermind behind SoI.

Welp.
Starled Awake / Persistent Nightmare
Creepy.
Like the Soul of New Phyrexia cycle?
Interesting.
Apologies for the links and multiposts, I'm on mobile and I'm quickly running out of battery.

Wait, it's likely not. LSV spoiled he's doing a Sorin card and tomorrow we should get Arlinn Kord. Unless Jace isn't in the set...

6 mana wraths, even with an angel attached, suck. Angel of deliverence is far from exiting, an almost vanilla 8 mana 6/6 flier. I would rather play with the uncommon Sentinel of the Eternal Watch.

It would seem possible, after all there are 300 cards in this set

So, I guess I'm splashing red into my BW control shell? I can work with this.

It appears I was very mistaken! We're getting Nahiri instead of Jace!
VampireArmy: I figured that we would have 3, just that Jace would be the third walker with those two since he's the face of the set. I was wrong.
March 14, 2016 11:22 a.m.
Nahiri looks so goddamn powerful I almost want her NOT to be legit. High starting loyalty, card advantage as a +2, Madness enabler if you want it to be, able to exile two permanents over two turns? For 4 mana? IN MARDU COLORS? Nah, too good to be true.
On a side note, Sinister Concoction is hilarious. Flavor-wise, it's the best card in the set by a landslide so far.
March 14, 2016 11:22 a.m.
If it is real, this is the most underwhelming planeswalker I have ever seen. Ultimate sucks, +2 is marginal, -2 is deplorable.
Drogskol Calvary and Nephalia Moondrakes are part of the intro deck rare cycle. they are obviously bad.
Sinister Concoction is a far worse Executioner's Capsule.
Starled Awake / Persistent Nightmare is what a mythic should be. Way to go Wotc.

A one card Delirium Enabler...
Sac it (Enchantment), Mill a card (Random, hopefully not creature or enchantment), Discard (Choice, make it not Enchantment, Creature or the milled card), kill your own creature (Creature).

She enables madness and delirium while giving card draw in 2 colors that don't have the best of draw with her +2. She removes problem creatures, artifacts, and enchantments with her -2, protecting herself. Her -8 can be backbreaking with the right creatures/artifacts. She's very decently costed and has a relatively high loyalty that can tick up quickly if left unattended.

Sinister Concoction is so much fun. I'll probably pick up a foil just to put in my cool/weird cards binder. There's a ton of flavor in this set, really digging that.

At first glance Rayenous I thought this card sucked; but now if done with Delirium you can get it in play right away
And I'm really not happy that Utter End is sticking around in a way. I hate that card so much; and it's cheaper too. Players will spend the life rather than pay the extra in utter end. URGH!

I am curious to see how much reanimation will be in this set because that Angel of Deliverance could get pretty crazy.
Not sure how I feel about that Nahiri yet. I think we will have to see more of the set to really judge her value.

By the way, here are the intro pack rares and all the promo cards.

Her -8 is actually pretty pathetic, IMO. But the fact her +2 doesn't force you to discard is awesome, and her -2 is repeatable removal that hits a whole lot of stuff, which is stellar. Her cost is perfect, too.
Basically, she has none of the most common flaws in planeswalker cards (not being able to protect herself, not generating card advantage, costing too much mana). And she's in two colors that were in desperate need of some support, especially on the card draw front. If this isn't fake, expect to see a whole lot of her in Standard and at least some fringe Modern play.

Hey, check out the extended art on the Anguished Unmaking playmat. Tamiyo's on there!
March 14, 2016 11:35 a.m.
Is that Nahiri real? If so, not really a fan of her -8, but otherwise seems like a solid card.
March 14, 2016 11:35 a.m.
Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor says... #38
Actually, just remembered Eldrazi Displacer returns stuff to the battlefield tapped....that could be an interesting interaction with Nahiri

GoldGhost012 says... #39
Yep, she was spoiled on Twitter and a gatheringmagic article.
March 14, 2016 11:38 a.m.
I'm not so high up on Nahiri's card right now (if this is the confirmed card). Her +2 is good. The -8 is also good as it will end games or at least get you a big creature (in Standard, the Eldrazi can happen, next best would be Dragonlord Ojutai or Dragonlord Kolaghan). The -2 is kinda disappointing in my eyes. It's good, but I think it'd be better if you can exile an artifact that isn't tapped so if it read "Exile target enchantment, artifact, or tapped creature." because in that case; when is an artifact ever gonna be tapped to get exiled by a sorcery speed ability?
I can't see this getting anything going other than testing. From my perspective, she'll be a Planeswalker that sticks around $10 just because she's Standard and that ultimate can be scary in EDH.
March 14, 2016 11:38 a.m.
Speaking of flavorful cards... Startled Awake. IT'S Archive Trap ON A STICK. Clunky as hell, but BEAUTIFUL.
Man, what's with those blue double-faced cards? They were the coolest in ISD and they're even cooler now. I don't give a shit about their playability, they're masterpieces of horror-themed flavor. Keep 'em coming, Wizards.

We probably won't get a Tamiyo card this set, sadly. Wonder if she's coming in the next set instead of a new Jace.
March 14, 2016 11:43 a.m.
Nahiri would be right where she should be if you removed one word...
Remove the 'tapped' from in front of Artifact.
'Destroy tapped creature' is fine, but there are a lot of artifacts that never need to tap.
Note: You do not HAVE TO discard a card. - If you like all your cards or have no cards in hand, you can just +2 and do nothing.
I admit, her -8 is a little underwhelming, but how often do people play PW's for their ultimate? - Besides, it could still easily win games.

Tell me you're not drooling at the thought of ultimating and finding Blightsteel Colossus or any of the old Eldrazi titans.
March 14, 2016 11:53 a.m.
It's nice... but there are easier ways of doing that.

Quick rules question: if you used Nahiri to put a transforming card like Archangel Avacyn into play and flipped it, would it still go back to your hand?
March 14, 2016 12:04 p.m.
Stormcaller says... #47
If that Nahiri turns out to be real it's an instant Staple in any Kaalia of the Vast deck.
Don't have a Dragon/Angel/Demon in your Hand? +2 drop a land and see what get.
Need removal? -2 got you covered.
Got 8+ loyalty? Tutor somthing scary, the new Avacyn maybe, attack with it get the ETB and put it down again next turn.
March 14, 2016 12:09 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #48
Yes. It would still be the card you put into play. Flickering it would go around that because then it technically becomes a "new" card.
That aside, i think ulting a dark dwellers into play in Standard would be the shit
March 14, 2016 12:10 p.m.
yay we get arlinn kord tomorrow and sorin of thursday!
March 14, 2016 12:10 p.m.
Nahiri Has be excited I've often longed for red white control and this is the second planeswalker in those colors that hasn't failed to exceed expectations. But right now my focus is on Anguished Unmaking since it's making me want to play control and and finally make my R/B aggro Mardu. This set is going to be good.
GoldGhost012 says... #1
I would like to call bullshit on that flavor text. It is a cruel irony that Sorin would have to destroy her, but painful? I doubt it.
