Ashiok was originally going to be a "Dark Jace", following the popular comic book trend of giving main characters "Dark" versions. It was changed to Ashiok though.

Some trivia for those who wanted Jace to be .

oh shit. this is my fave set!!! theory time: so the bloody wing means something happens to avacyn. according to the last set, they are changing up all the good cards, so there will be an avacyn or something like her. most likely she turned into a vampire, a werewolf, or just an evil version of herself. there is probably gonna be a giant demon coming back who either killed her or turned her. I would really like reprint of snappy, but it aint gonna happen. maybe bloodmoon though. these standard lands are getting out of control. no lily. i have enough of her in modern. maybe a new lilly, a better sorin, and a better garruk. maybe a new white plainswalker to unite the humans now that their angel is gone. OOOOOH maybe gideon. make him more of a powerful walker, one who has some better human tribal abilitys. like humans have +5+5 and fs vig. that would be nice. for his ult of course. and he should turn into a creature with indestructable and hexproof this time. maybe a 4/4. i dunno. it would be nice. bring back better werewolves probably, with better ways to turn them. like sacing a creature or something. i dunno

wait. new idea. so the feather goes into a pit. could that be zombies? lots of them would be nice. or maybe demons crawling out.

November 15, 2015 2:33 p.m.

car says... #4

or evil humans. cause the wing falls near the human house. maybe black human archers or something. but probably not. maybe like a moon demon. that would be so cool. like a blood-moon demon. when it enters destroy all non-basic lands. flying. pro white. vig. deathtouch. hexproof cause you cant touch the moon. casting cost-9 or sac 5 lands you control.

car What would Lily be doing on Innistrad?

November 15, 2015 5:22 p.m.

car says... #6

perhaps she is raising the demon. or reserecting griselbrand. like her big minus could be search your deck for all your demons and put them out. i dunno. something like that. Or Put a token with a power and toughness equal to the number of cards in all graveyards. It has double-strike, vig, flying, lifelink, and hexproof.

November 15, 2015 6:04 p.m.

car says... #7

maybe she has teamed with jace who has also turned evil to fight the humans.

I actually hope we get 4 legendary artifact creatures based off the 4 FNAF animatronics (five nights at freddys), because that will actually convince my youngest brother to at least learn magic, and I want there to be a possibility that the four of us could sit down and play a game of commander. xD

Even if theyre not in the set, I'm going to continue working with him on making designs for them anyways for fun.

November 15, 2015 6:19 p.m.

TheNextRedDude says... #9

Why would she be resurrecting Griselbrand when last time she was there she killed him? And what would cause Jace to turn evil? He's a bureaucrat, but not a villain

November 15, 2015 6:19 p.m.

car says... #10

absolutely no idea.

November 15, 2015 6:31 p.m.

I'm tired of Jace for the same reason I got tired of seeing John Cena in WWE: You push something so heavily on me and tout it as the greatest thing to ever happen to (insert thing here), I'm inevitably going to end up hating it. And that's exactly what Wizards did with Jace. I'm tired of seeing him everywhere. He wasn't on Theros or Tarkir, granted. And you know what? I didn't think of him one single time during either storyline. And I was happy. Now that Jace is back? I'm ready for him to GTFO again.

November 15, 2015 6:38 p.m.

car says... #12

maybe he will be interesting now. and evil. hopefully. or maybe it is jace's twin. Mace

November 15, 2015 6:41 p.m.

The most likely reason Jace is there is to find Sorin.

November 15, 2015 6:44 p.m.

I agree canter, why can't he just go back to Ravnica and continue embodying their flawed choice of government

November 15, 2015 6:47 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #15

He's definitely there looking for Sorin, which implies there is still trouble with the Eldrazi that will be dealt with during/after Innistrad. But Liliana was featured in Origins and had her story fleshed out with an enigmatic antagonist introduced and I doubt Wizards would do that and not have her appear for 6+ months. I feel like whatever trouble has befallen Innistrad is her fault (she was talking to Jace about a serious, unexplained problem) and Jace (and Sorin and possibly Nahiri) all stumble into it.

Whatever is up with Jace's outfit I feel is just to blend in on Innistrad?

November 15, 2015 7:04 p.m. Edited.

Emrakul at least is loose in the multiverse. Gideon/Jace/Ugin and co. will not rest until every Eldrazi they know of is imprisoned.

IvoryFrost says... #17

Is a cavern of souls reprint too strong for standard currently (with allies and eldrazi for example) or is now the perfect time for that card to be reprinted?

...cause that card really needs a reprint.

November 15, 2015 10:45 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

I don't think that Cavern of Souls would be too strong in Standard. It does work poorly with Morphs though, considering cards like Den Protector will still be legal while SOI is out.

November 15, 2015 10:58 p.m.

Rayenous says... #19

I wouldn't say it works poorly with Morphs... sure, you don't get the 'cannot be countered' effect, but Cavern of Souls can still be tapped for , which still allows you to use it to cast Morph creatures, regardless of the named creature type.

But I agree, I don't think that it would be too strong in standard. There really isn't enough Tribal for it to be all that good... perhaps with OGW, that could change...

November 16, 2015 11:27 a.m.

Mindgrind says... #20

BFZ-> C15-> OGW-> SOIGOOD LORD WHAT HAVE THEY DONE

November 18, 2015 1:10 p.m.

Rayenous not even going to lie, I read that at first as "really isn't enough Tibalt for it to be all that good".

November 18, 2015 4:27 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #22

So with the Kozilek and Wastes rumor eating away at the collective Magic conscious, I was thinking about what Wastes imply for the story. If Ob Nixilis releases Ulamog by absorbing power from the Aligned Hedron Network, that could coax Kozilek out from beneath Zendikar for two reasons: Ulamog is distressed and there is a single, massive burst of mana. If both of the Titans are ravaging Zendikar that is a good reason to have wastes, and also a good reason to go to Innistrad: the whole reason they are on Zendikar was because Nahiri, Sorin, and Ugin wanted to trap them on one of their homeworlds. If Zendikar is destroyed... the next logical place to take them is Innistrad.

November 18, 2015 5:05 p.m.

Ruffigan, but that would imply that they could get the Eldrazi on Innistrad, create a prison similar to the one that took three pre-Mending Planeswalkers decades to create, and keep watch over all three Eldrazi. This would at least require the original three walkers (Ugin, Sorin, Nahiri) to get together, and probably much more. However, I know that the Eldrazi will destroy Innistrad because I have hired them to destroy every plane with demons on it.

November 18, 2015 5:15 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #24

I think getting them there would be the easy part, they go wherever the mana leads them, and they have been manipulated before. The hard part would be keeping them there, but there are 8 planeswalkers (7 if you don't consider Nahiri, who is missing) on the case, two of which are the oldest most powerful in the multiverse besides Nicol Bolas and Garruk, and maybe Ob Nixilis.

November 18, 2015 5:28 p.m.

How did Garruk get to be oldest and most powerful?

November 18, 2015 5:31 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #26

He's not one of the oldest, I lumped him in there because he is continually getting more powerful/corrupted the longer he is cursed by the Chain Veil, similar to Ob Nixilis. He was also Jace's major concern after the Eldrazi.

November 18, 2015 5:34 p.m. Edited.

car says... #27

True true. I hope we finally get a really op garruk. one that sees play in modern.

November 18, 2015 5:58 p.m.

All I want is monocolor aggro. Is that too much to ask?

November 18, 2015 6:02 p.m.

As long as we get homunculi cards I'll be happy. Stitcher's Apprentice is one of my favorite cards.

November 18, 2015 9:26 p.m.

Rayenous says... #30

@TheNextRedDude

With Wastes and smaller Eldrazi, it's possible you may not just have mono-color aggro, but no-color aggro.

I do not believe we will see the eldrazi on innistrad. We have no idea if that is where the last one went or if it remains on zendikar.

SOrins assignment was to find and retrieve Nari. We know that Nahri after stopping the eldrazi emerging last time left in part because sorin and ugin never answered the summons. she was interested in sorin and left to find him.

THe question is why she never showed up during the last innistrad block.

also the shadows are foretelling of something from the past, or something yet to come like scars of mirrodin was prelude to phyrexian.

the question is what has happened to Nahri.

ALso in recent blocks each tells parts of a grander story, tahkir and ugins rebirth, zendikar and the eldrazi, and now sorin gong home to find Nahri and bring her back to zendikar.

Now that I think about it, what if they only seal two elrazi and sorin and Nahri help seal or destroy the last one. no one said emerakuel had to make an appearance yet.

November 19, 2015 9:36 a.m.

IvoryFrost says... #32

What if the reason we can't find Nahri is because Garruk killed her?

November 19, 2015 2:12 p.m.

mc240229 says... #33

I bet phyrexia has made it's move, compounding matters, one of the eldrazi titans has shown up causing mass panic. Sorin, desperate, walks to his homeland perturbed by the state it's in. More planeswalkers enter the scene. So the story continues.

November 26, 2015 10:59 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #34

mc240229 - How would Phyrexia make it's move? Phyrexia does not have access to planar portal technology and the Phyrexian physiology does not let them have sparks.

November 26, 2015 11:18 p.m.

mc240229 says... #35

The eldrazi could possibly tear a hole between two planes. It is known that the phyrexian are ambitious and intelligent. They could capitalize on this. Ob nixilis isn't out of the picture yet either, as far as I know. Elspeth's death may also contribute to a plot with daxos involved. Teysa also has open ended plots.

November 26, 2015 11:40 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #36

You're really reaching at straws here mc240229.

... and then they Conflux together ;)

November 27, 2015 5:57 a.m.

mc240229 says... #38

I think that a bridge between phyrexia and innistrad has occured due to eldrazi activity. The phyrexian hive have been left out of the picture for awhile now. It seems logical. We keep returning to planes. The threat is still there. Sorin has priority for his homeland. Nahiri is the most capable to seal the eldrazi. This might lead to the eldrazi activity to cease, but the damage caused by the eldrazi is still there. Where were they? What is the response of the planes inhabitants. Seems like an epic twist for the phyrexian invasion to begin the next epic storyline.

November 27, 2015 9:04 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #39

That's certainly a grandiose story but I don't think Wizards would do that: the Phyrexians and Eldrazi are their golden geese and putting them back to back kind of dulls their impact. Te Phyrexians will most definitely make a comeback but it will be after the current story is properly resolved (or left as a cliff hanger, as Wizard is want to do). Plus, if the Phyrexians interfere with the Eldrazi it means Jace will be relevent to the current story even longer, and no one wants that.

November 27, 2015 9:23 p.m.

mc240229 honestly, you're stretching things far too much.

I strongly suspect SOI will have some tie in to the Eldrazi story line simply based upon the reference to H.P Lovecraft's work. I doubt Eldrazi will appear in the next block, but there will be an important plot point divulged.

November 27, 2015 10:08 p.m.

Additionally, when asked about this Mark Rosewater said something along the lines of "Do you hate the Multiverse?"

Fblthp confirmed for a planeswalker card.

November 29, 2015 5:09 p.m.

Maltanis says... #48

Everyone keeps going on about seeing Liliana in SOI, but why are we assuming this? She seems to have NO reason to go too Innistrad at this point.

I feel we're going to get a new Tibalt, just because Tibalt 1.0 was SO bad, they're going to feel the need to give him a shiny new card.
Tamiyo is also a good shoe-in for a new card, as she was also on Innistrad the last we saw, and the trailer did have the moon in the background, which she was studying.

I honestly can see a Lovecraftian reference invoving Emrakul, as she is the most Cthulhu like of the Eldrazi titans. Also we have no idea if the story will be taking place before, after or during the same time as BFZ and OoG. I could see it being a side by side story, where Emrakul, being the big boss lady of the Eldrazi has gotten out of Zendikar and is busy wrecking havoc on Innistrad. Either that or the Planeswalkers on Zendikar screw the pooch royally and chase them away from Zendikar and into Innistrad. I hope not, as then we are just going to be following our Planeswalker "Avengers" around the multiverse, which is suuuuuper lame.

WotC has been pretty on point with the story in my opinion. I don't feel they would screw up such an important and defining moment in the lore of magic. The "defeat" of the Eldrazi, is big game for them.

Does anyone know when the movie is scheduled for release? I keep wondering how they will tie that into the sets. I assume they will make a movie that reflects the current story to help people bridge from one to the other.

November 30, 2015 11:48 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #49

Maltanis Innistrad is one of Liliana's favorite places to chill. It's likely that we will see her there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Emrakul on Innistrad. Sad, and rather confused as to why they didn't save it until later because of how the Eldrazi are such large threats to the multiverse, but not surprised. I feel like the Eldrazi were originally going to be spread out over back-to-back sets (like Ulamog and Kozilek were).

November 30, 2015 12:22 p.m.

Maltanis The Eldrazi storyline will likely stretch beyond SOI. Zendikar is kinda doomed and Jace will be going to innistrad to find Sorin to defeat the Eldrazi to save the multiverse to open a portal to Earth to find me to stop me from using the word "to" in long sentences.
