Green one seems to be the most likely to see Constructed play.

Gitrog is a HORROR

Is it irony to cast Turn to Frog on Gitrog?

Rasta_Viking29 says... #7

That Vessel seems more useful than Font of Fortunes was and keeps adding to the solid deck manipulation green has at it's disposal in Standard.

Green is getting on really well for card advantage, or rather, card cycling at the moment. I'm playing Oath of Nissa in modern because it's a phenomenal card, and here's another great example (above).

This set is actually fantastic.

And like that toad is my new favourite card.

All Hail the Gitrog (for being stupid in EDH)!

Run fetches, Titania, Protector of Argoth, Life from the Loam, Crucible of Worlds, Groundskeeper, various other Dredge cards, various Landfall cards, Rampaging Baloths...you get the idea.

Stormcaller says... #11

ChiefBell: just wanted to mention that.

Look at top x cards and put "cardtype" in hand seems to be the new thing for green

A few examples: Seek the Wilds, Oath of Nissa and Animist's Awakening, which all will be in the post-rotation-Standard.

Snake_Oil says... #12

I'm disappointed in the colours of Gitrog -- Green/Blue would have been a much better choice considering it's an amphibian.

March 23, 2016 11:18 a.m.

EverythingIsK says... #13

I get why not having a mono-green mythic yet is frustrating, but green looks like one of the stronger colors in this set.

So I'm going to guess if we get mono green mythics, they're probably going to be bulks. : )

March 23, 2016 11:21 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #14

It may actually be a toad, not a frog, which would explain the warty skin. Toads spend more time on land, not water.

March 23, 2016 11:22 a.m.

Monsmtg says... #15

Phaetion, or you can be dumb like me and yell "frog tribal!!!" until you pass out.

March 23, 2016 11:23 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #16

This thing seems to spend most of its time in the lake.

And I agree with Skulloelegy: what this thing does in the newest UR makes me think it should be part blue.

March 23, 2016 11:24 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #17

But...it's a horror that devours people...how is that blue?

March 23, 2016 11:26 a.m.

Phaetion says... #18

Monsmtg: Or until you croak. ;)

But The Gitrog is too cool of a card. It basically plays similarly to a R/G Lands deck, but switching R for B changes quite a bit.

March 23, 2016 11:26 a.m.

Gitrog definitely explains the Groundskeeper reprint.

Green is killing it on card filtering right now. I don't think it's as strong in SOI as others seem to, but the wolves are strong and obviously Gitrog's a beast. And dodges Lightning Axe. Thing's gonna be such a bomb in draft.

March 23, 2016 11:26 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #20

VampireArmy: this thing is basically the Hypnotoad via insanity, taking control of people's wills. Least that's the vibe I got from it.

March 23, 2016 11:31 a.m.

Snake_Oil says... #21

VampireArmy

How can BLUE be a horror?

Thing in the Ice would like a word.

Spellskite wants several.

March 23, 2016 11:42 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #22

Skulloelegy no. You focused on one word and ignored the rest of my statement. It's entire existence is to eat people. Like...that's all it does. The hypnotoad thing made sense, sure but "it's a horror" was not my argument.

GoldGhost012 says... #23

Judges have been spoiling a card puzzle piece by puzzle piece on Twitter. We have this so far.

The Gitrog Monster+Wave of Vitriol

Just in case you want to draw a quarter of your EDH deck. xD

Add Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest for extra salt!

March 23, 2016 11:51 a.m.

square711 says... #25

Sultai Horrors with Gitrog, Thing in the Ice and Spellskite anyone? (nope)

Seriously though, that card is phenomenal. Sacrificing one land per turn to keep it around isn't such a big deal and MY GOD IT TURNS LANDS INTO CARD ADVANTAGE. This looks way too strong for a 5-drop, and I never get excited about 5-drops.

And the vessels. None of them really sucks (compare them to the Theros fountains, which all sucked). The green one and black one in particular are awesome.

"It's a horror that devours people... How is that blue?"

I don't think I ignored any part of that statement -- I offered two examples of blue horrors. The hypnotoad thing, while I agree it makes sense, isn't part of my statement -- My statement was because it is an amphibian, as with other frogs in multi-colours like Plaxcaster Frogling and Omnibian. I could go into how it controls people and how that's a blue trait, but that's not what I was aiming for -- Simply because of it's species/type as opposed to how it happens to survive.

The flavor text is:

"I can't remember my first works"- Geralf Stitcher

The playmat for GP Minneapolis looks really cool.

March 23, 2016 11:57 a.m.

square711 says... #30

"I can't remember my first/earlier works" is what Geralf says in Forgotten Creation's flavor text.

March 23, 2016 11:59 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #31

Skulloelegy you seem to think that my argument was that because it's a horror, it can't be blue which is not my argument. I was getting at that it's a mindless monstrosity who's soul purpose in life is to devour. Blue implies some sort of thoughtfulness which i initially failed to see how it displayed any until someone else brought up the mind control factor which made more sense.

GoldGhost012 - Where can we ind where those puzzle pieces are being posted?

So far, I can see that it is a creature with a creature type that starts with 'S', and has 'Ego' in it's name.

Edit: it is also card #241... so it, alphabetically, starts with 'A'. (before Anguished Unmaking)

March 23, 2016 12:17 p.m. Edited.

Rayenous says... #33

I'm thinking 'Alter Ego' for the name..?

Possibly 'Shapeshifter' for the type..?

Looking at the spoilers so far today, I'm super excited for SOI Standard. Can't wait to see what comes of it. So many cool mechanics and interactions that will be happening.

Can't wait to start brewing a new Infinite Combo this weekend after the full spoiler! >:D

Like I did with this guy:

Shameless deck sharing due to pride of building original infinite combo.

GoldGhost012 ooooooh, X cost creatures are awesome! It would be sweet if X allowed you to dig X and cast instant or sorcery equal to or less than X.

Snake_Oil says... #38

VampireArmy

Now I get where you're coming from -- But I'd argue that there's no thoughtfulness in Thing in the Ice -- It's a giant sea beast that wrecks ships and, I presume, eats sailors and smaller nasties.

The green would imply that hunger -- and I get the black sacrifice aspect.

I'm just bummed that it isn't Simic colours -- It would have made sense, and I know we probably won't be getting a legendary simic creature from the best plane...

March 23, 2016 12:36 p.m.

EverythingIsK says... #39

If it's on green and blue, it'll probably be a permanent with X or less.

March 23, 2016 12:37 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #40

New piece

Enters the battlefield ability, something to do with another creature on the field, and +1/+1 counters.

March 23, 2016 12:37 p.m. Edited.

VampireArmy says... #41

Simic happens to be my least favorite color combo in all of magic so that could also be why I'd detest it being those colors ;3.

March 23, 2016 12:38 p.m.

Rayenous says... #42

I'm now thinking it's a 'Spirit Clone', or 'Spirit Illusion'.

Enters as a copy of something with casting cost X or less.

Gets and additional X +1/+1 counters on it.

New card is clearly their plan to slowly introduce celebrities to MTG as a form of product placement. That spoiled card is gonna turn out to be either Just Bieber or Mila Kunis. Regardless of which it'll be a ghost.

March 23, 2016 12:41 p.m.

Rayenous says... #44

/me crosses fingers
