Announced during GP Indy, the Spring 2016 set is Shadows over Innistrad!
Edits for FAQ:
- Here is Mark Rosewater on why we're getting two returns in a row.
Rayenous Even the name is atrocious. Damn, why do they make aura's so terrible nowadays? Even the new Geist one is underwhelming.

Idk... Secure the Wastes would make this super sweet gotcha tech.

I've got a Tiny Leaders Bantchantment deck that might be worthwhile for, but I've no clue what I'd cut for it. Kinda hard to justify getting rid of anything already in there for it. Same with Saint Traft Invocation, for that matter.

Although I kind of want to put STI on Geist for Double Angel Midnight Madness.

...What is he hoping for?
"I hope I don't drop this metal ball on my foot!"
"I hope this gaseous stuff in my hand isn't toxic!"
"I hope people don't notice how grey my hair has turned!"
"I hope there are better auras in this set!"

I was looking back through flavor texts and I want to simply admire how badass the flavor is on this card when it flips:
LOL DOORS... WHO EVEN USES THOSE

Just to clarify, I never said this is a bad card. I said it's unimaginative and doesn't go particularly well with most ramp strategies, which is less than I've come to expect from Hydra cards lately - especially at Mythic rarity. Paying 4GG for a decently sized creature plus a land tutor isn't bad, but it's nothing to go crazy about, and I definitely don't see anyone paying more than $2 for this in the long run (which is why I called a junk mythic. Junk mythics aren't necessarily bad, just not sought after).
It's the Johnny in me that's dissapointed, not the Timmy. :P

It's easily the most flavorful set ever, with a fucking ton of playable cards. Good job WotC, you've done a really good job this time.
[edit] let's see what commons and uncos are made of now :p

I love that card. It makes me want to rebuild my old Chainer reanimator deck.
March 24, 2016 2:55 p.m.
Alright finally a reanimator spell in this set... already brewed a reanimator deck in Standard thanks to having 4 Ulamogs in paper which I didn't play but Necromantic Summons wasn't great enough, Ever After seems a solid option specially with all the graveyard synergies from this set. What do you guys think about a BUG Delirium/Reanimator, seems like the way to go?
March 24, 2016 3:06 p.m.
I guess Storm Crow and Squire lived happily Ever After...as Zombies!

I mean... trying to bring out Newlamog with this card in Standard...
The most efficient way you could do this is only if you can pitch Newlamog on turn 1. Turn 2 and Turn 3 would be ramping up. Mana dork and Explosive Vegetation to get two Swamps...
The only downside is you won't get the cast trigger from Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, which is a good part of his value. It does let you play him one turn sooner though.
We'll see where it goes. Could be a dangerous card though.
March 24, 2016 3:44 p.m.
On that note, the only viable method of getting Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger into Grave on turn 1 is using Sinister Concoction and hitting the seven mana, using the extra to crack it the turn you plan to reanimate it... which, in that case, you may as well be better off using Necromantic Summons to that degree to save on mana expense.

Mad Prophet reprint... can't get much more flavour from a reprint.
March 24, 2016 3:56 p.m.
About the new art on Mad Prophet...is than an extra MOUTH where his ear should be? If so, that's...unnerving.
March 24, 2016 4:01 p.m.
I guess, in Limited, a 2CMC 3/3 blocker isn't bad... and eventually this face can attack. Plus, when it flips, it's a very cost effective 4/4 attacker.
March 24, 2016 4:01 p.m.
one thing to note, we now have two 4 power Werewolves for in Timber Shredder and the Butcher. Maybe Werewolf aggro can be a thing?
March 24, 2016 4:07 p.m.
Aim High isnt terrible, at least in Limited. Pyre Hound could find a home in some weird not!storm deck.
March 24, 2016 4:28 p.m.
rabid bite seems interesting removal for green, even if it need a creature, still better than fights spells
March 24, 2016 4:45 p.m.
Pyre hound seems VERY cool.
The spider is good (decent) too. NOW GIVE US SPIDER LORDS FOR SPIDER TRIBAL!!!
March 24, 2016 4:51 p.m.
Rabid Bite seems great for limited... Tail Slash was some good limited removal for 3 CMC. The fox is a cool common to have.
You also forgot the Inspiring Captain
3W3/3ETB Anthem your team till EOT
March 24, 2016 4:54 p.m.
What does the fox say?
First card of the new fox tribal? Lol.
March 24, 2016 5:19 p.m.
Anyone else think it's kind of silly leaking unofficial spoilers the day before the full set is revealed?
Too bad pyre hound isn't a wolf for tribal reasons.

anyone thinking that the 4th angel sister the the angel that edgar markov used to create vampirism?

MindAblaze says... #38
Didn't Edgar use Sorin as a test subject for that, which caused his spark to ignite?
March 24, 2016 6:11 p.m.
The 4th Angel sister was killed by Avacyn. - That was revealed in a recent Uncharted Realms story.
March 24, 2016 6:36 p.m.
So, Mad Prophet has been predicting stuff this whole time...
That doodle in his hand. Does any of it look familiar to anyone else?

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Rabid Bite...its a dude biting a Werewolf...and that flavor text in concert with the Werewolf's facial expression. Man this set has so much flavor.

Not an expert on Innistrad weapon technology but the lady in "survive the night"...has a freaking GUN! Does any other cards have guns? Why does anybody on Innistrad have plate armor if there are guns? These are the questions that will keep me up at night.
