Gather the Townsfolk had similar weaponry shown. Definitely influenced by the flint lock style.

Well...don't I feel stupid. The bow part looked like the top of the window. :P

WacoCatbox There are like three or four cards with guns on em in mtg. I think it's fucking stupid that people think that guns take away from the "MTG experience", but apparently a lot of people disagree.
Chandra's from a freaking stemapunk world, and yet there's no guns. Unrealistic garbage.
The one card I know of that has a gun, and I can't remember it, is like a 2/2 3 mana white vanilla creature, Militia something or other. And if you want to get super technical, Goblin Sharpshooter has a gun, but it's made out of wood.

Well, let's try that second picture again:
Liliana's headwear strongly resembles the image on Mad Prophet's scroll.

kyuuri117, well cool looking swords and armor are cool looking and they go away with firearms. I suppose I don't have anything against them in MTG (like in the Chandra plane where it would fit). I just thought it didn't fit in Innistrad...but it's not an issue...because it's a crossbow. Need to find my glasses...Also looked up Goblin Sharpshooter LOL

I would argue that pistols absolutely fit in a plane filled with werewolves and vampires. There is a ton of stuff like Van Helsing that have the humans hunting/being hunted and they have stuff like revolvers and it works very well.

Who needs guns in magic when you got a Rocket Launcher? Do you remember when magic had A Weapon to Surpass Metal Gear? - Void

The parallels in real life time era really would allow for flint lock weapons.

Also lets not forget space travel ala Crucible of Worlds and Vindicate. (Seriously looks like a tie fighter in that art)

That is not necessarily true, especially if firearms are difficult/expensive to make. Russia mixed riflemen, swordsmen, and cavalry armed with an assortment of weapons (including whips) within their military during the industrial revolution. Just because firearms are present does not mean everyone suddenly has them, so armor and swords would not go away.
But yes, not not really fit Innistrad outside maybe a one off mad science experiment.

That is DEFINATELY a tie-fighter in Vindicate. Seriously how did I never notice this?
Here's Snoddy's website...some more interesting things on the front page.

I think it's the Skyship Weatherlight but still...damn close resemblance in that picture.
March 25, 2016 12:06 a.m.
Predator, Flagship - lazer cannons
Alaborn Cavalier, Alaborn Musketeer, Alaborn Zealot - Muskets and rifle's, Portal Three Kingdoms.
Orcish Cannoneers Well, it's a cannon, but it's close.
Trokin High Guard I think that's a gun.
So there are some. But yea, it's rare. My thoughts are this: Sure, you could always hire a mage to do your dirty work for you, but a mage is just one person. Plus, they're probably be expensive. If an army could manufacture firearms, they'd clearly do so. And if goblins are capable of figuring out how to make a cannon, then it doesn't make sense that guns are so rare in mtg lore.

Maybe most planes in the magic universe lack the ingredients to make gun powder. Has it been explicitly stated what elements exist in the magic universe? Because some basic chemistry would go a long ways for those that couldn't use magic.

PistonGolem says... #17
Chemistry would be interesting. We see cards like Chemister's Trick. Maybe in a Kaladesh set we could see that with more Thopter Engineers and hopefully a Hangarback Walker Reprint

It's a giant death robot. If this card can exist, all those things can too

Walruss: they have missed a big chance by not referencing his old flavourtext.
I will go through ye olde innistrad cards, to see if there are other things that could hint to things in the new set.

The only things you need for gunpowder are Sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter (saltpeter is somehow extracted from urine, if I'm not mistaken), which are all things the mtg multi-verse has ready access to. But wizards is probably waiting for a steampunk themed set to introduce that kind of stuff.
March 25, 2016 8:40 a.m.
mymanpotsandpans says... #22
You get the urea part from urine but it is not requirement to use urine. There is a youtube video of a guy spending many months peeing on dead grass to make gunpowder.
March 25, 2016 8:44 a.m.
In that case it's definitely time for some mtg civilization to develop cannons. Haha

@K34 Goblin Cannon. Goblin Grenade. Goblin Archaeologist. Goblins have been using gunpowder and cannons for a while.
Those Goblin Artisans are smart!

I really want to see this in Eldrich Moon.
Jace's Last Minute Relavation Show

Wow, so you get to immediately skip the human form weaker side? Now that seems powerful.
March 25, 2016 11:04 a.m.
Seems good. Makes me kinda sad that Howl of the Horde is no longer in standard.
March 25, 2016 11:25 a.m.
Geistblast looks like it would work with the 2015 blue red commander goblin. Paying 3 extra to copy a bribery or blatant thievery seems good. And using it on a utility creature, or just to hit a player is a bonus.

ahhhm:
White Delver? One of the gossipmongers looks like Bud Spencer.
Will this cards be viable? I think the red one will be strong.

Skin Invasion is really, really good.
Like, is this Modern playable?

Is it just me, or did Skulk really not end up being a thing?

Rasta_Viking29 says... #38
Holy shit, Skin Shredder is cool. Triggers prowess and has a huge payoff when you are trying to close. Exile or instant speed removal 2 for 1's you which is fair I think. Not a turn one play and doesn't give haste on turn 2 to your 2nd 1 drop creature. Not sure if this will make the cut consistently but I definitely see it as a good sideboard card against decks leaning on Languish and other sweepers to stabilize for mono red.

So Eldrazi Scions now generate two mana if needed...

I'm pretty surprised they didn't come out with a legendary werewolf with this set. Did they say anything about it? Like, maybe fitting "Legendary Creature - Human Werewolf" is just too long to fit in the card type box? That would both be funny and sad.
March 25, 2016 12:31 p.m.
StuntmanTheThird: Maybe they just thought Arlinn Kord was close enough.
March 25, 2016 12:35 p.m.
Holy Shit they did great on this set.
Looking through, I have one comment on what might be one of the best designed cards EVER.
Accursed Witch Flipping into Infectious Curse
This card is AWESOME. Not only have they brought curses back, they're using discounting and an aggressive body that flips on DEATH! and the flip is awesome.
March 25, 2016 12:37 p.m.
Theyre going insane this set with the flip cards. Creatures flipping into auras, enchantments flipping into creatures, Sorceries flipping into creatures, artifacts into creatures, creatures into artifacts...
THIS IS MADNESS!!!
No,
THIS IS INNISTRAD
March 25, 2016 12:40 p.m.
SOI is just dropping jems into my lap for the Bruna, Light of Alabaster deck I've been brewing. Invocation of Saint Traft, and now Open the Armory. Can't wait!

AwesomeName says... #47
@StuntmanTheThird, I'm willing to bet that there is almost definitely going to be the legendary werewolf in eldritch moon, similar to how the ally commander, General Tazri was in the second set of BFZ block.

There is some synergy between Cryptolith Rite and Jeskai Ascendancy that exist to make a powerful combination. But I can't put it together. Any Ideas?

mymanpotsandpans endless mana combo with Cloudstone Curio?
March 25, 2016 12:52 p.m.
Wait, im confused... The "full" spoiler came out, but we still have the leak art for many cards on mythic spoiler. theres also the red wolf that still has the top part cut off so we cant see name or mana cost... whats going on?
also, the madness cards are, well, MADNESS. WotC really outdid themselves this set
Lame_Duck says... #1
WacoCatbox, it's not a gun, it's a small crossbow.
