So there will be only lifelands with zoomed out art (like guildgates) (Dismal Backwater for reference) and Khans fetchlands in Fate reforged.

Wow, what a treat.

"Ya know what? Born of the gods was terrible, Gatecrash was meh, let's just print money again".

I think that this was the much better option over printing Zendy fetches.

It is indeed sweet, and someone I know has already said that they see fetches hitting $5. While I'm nor that optimistic, more fetches are never bad.

TurboFagoot says... #4

Just like when Shocklands were super cheap in Dragon's Maze, yeah?

That totally happened.

VampireArmy says... #5

Cheap = "super cheap"

I totally said that.

Side note. Shocklands dropped from 25 to about 11-15. In comparison yeah, that did kinda happen.

AussieBloke says... #6

So, that's just in the land slot, not the rare right? Meaning I can potentially go, Ugin, Foil Ugin, Fetchland in one pack?

December 25, 2014 9:22 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #7

AussieBloke I believe that is correct though the odds of that actually happening have to abysmally low

VampireArmy I'll make a few blood sacrifices before I buy my box, hopefully that will appease the God's of sheer dumb luck.

Hopefully this will drop the prices to 5-10 bucks including Flooded Strand and Polluted Delta

I never opened a shock from DGM. Hopefully I have better luck with FRF.

APPLE01DOJ says... #13

Right I opened so much Dragon's Maze chasing Voice and not once did I pull a shock... Now opening RTR was a different story. Glad they did this. Maybe Zen fetches will show up in MM2 which would be cool as it'll help reserve their value. (Vs releasing them again in standard)

BTW I remember 6.25 Steam Vents

December 25, 2014 11:10 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #14

there will also be a TON more FRF opened than there was DGM

slovakattack says... #15

Ehn... Not so sure how I feel about this, honestly.

KTK didn't really have much of anything Rare or Mythic Rare, Fetchlands aside. I feel like this'll devalue it as a set.

December 25, 2014 12:04 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #16

it had Rhino, Butcher, Dig, Ascendancy, and mantis rider amoung others. I don't think it's the rares that's devaluing the set, it's the extreme amount of product that's been opened

December 25, 2014 12:18 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #17

Yes and last I heard standard was suppose to stay that way hence the slowdown. WOTC wants to release powerful flashy things without them throwing the modern meta outa wack. So we will probably only see Courser of Kruphix kinda good stuff or Thoughtseize~esque reprints I think. Imagine if Courser had herself a nice 1 CMC though!

This is good new, Im pretty excited. Just makes it easier to get all my playsets together. Cant wait to see those zendi fetches again though. Goddamnit do I need a set of Scalding Tarn.

December 25, 2014 12:38 p.m.

TurboFagoot Has a pretty good point. DGM didn't really reduce the value of shocks as far as I remember; RTR and GTC did that. I'm not convinced that this will actually reduce the value of fetchlands past how far they've already dropped.

Servo_Token says... #21

At one point in its life, I bought a Steam Vents for $5. I expect to do the same for Polluted Delta.

December 25, 2014 1 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #22

CrazyLittleGuy he'd be correct if roughly the same amount of people opened FRF as DGM. That's not going to be the case

subrosian says... #23

This is pretty cool, but I still want those darn Misty Rainforests. And not in Modern Masters 2015, in a normal expansion.

Dang. And I thought I wouldn't be buying boxes this time around...

December 25, 2014 2:02 p.m.

slovakattack says... #25

I'm just confused as to how this will work. Are they reprinting the Fetches as rares, just like in KTK, or are they more of a 'chance card', like a foil?

December 25, 2014 2:08 p.m.

Devonin says... #26

In Dragon's Maze, they replaced the basic land card slot with "A guildgate, and maybe, very rarely, a shockland instead" and they're doing the same here with "A khanhold, and maybe, very rarely, a fetch instead"

December 25, 2014 2:29 p.m.

slovakattack says... #27

Devonin: Oh, I gotcha. Does that mean it's possible for there to be a foil fetch in that slot? o-o

December 25, 2014 2:32 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #28

So I am just assuming here (And do note that I have no math to back any of this up, all numbers are my estimate), but I believe that the odds of getting a fetch are the same as getting any given rare in your rare slot (so, the same as getting a yesuva dragonclaw in your pack). Just as you are always given a rare slot, and therefore have the chance at getting a rare of your choice, you are always given a land slot, and therefore have the chance at getting a land of your choice (here being fetches). It won't be as random as getting a given foil, but I assume that it won't be as common as, say, 1 per 20 packs or whatever fetches were when they filled the rare slot. I'd probably say 1 in 40-45 is a good estimate on how often you'll pull one.

Jimhawk says... #29

"Therefore, in Fate Reforged booster packs, the basic land slot may contain nonbasic lands."

I'm pretty sure you have a chance at a basic land, a gainland, or a fetchland. You can still get basics in Fate Reforged. Everyone who has read this article that I've talked to always misses this part. It even gives an example at the end of the article that expresses this.

ChiefBell says... #30

ThatBlueMage - fetchlands in khans are somewhere around 1 in 10 to 1 in 15 as a rare. They've released no details about how often a fetch land is inserted into the land slot, and therefore we can't run any maths on it. Could be 1 in 20. Could be 1 in 50. Could be 1 in 100. Who knows?

December 25, 2014 4:29 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #31

As with everything in this forum, that post was entirely baseless speculation meant to give some sort of answer to those that had unanswerable questions. You're totally right, CB, that we have no idea what things will be like, but basing assumptions off of things that have happened prior hasn't always been the worst of ideas.

December 25, 2014 4:37 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #32

No, you're right. Could follow the Dragons Maze model.

December 25, 2014 4:39 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #33

I'll allow it.

December 25, 2014 8:21 p.m.

Devonin says... #34

If there's only a chance there will be a non-basic in the slot, and only a chance it will be a fetch rather than a khanland, I'd say there will be far fewer fetches entering from this set than shocks did in DGM

December 25, 2014 8:43 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #35

Devonin

But you also have to consider Draft, which is where a good deal of the packs get opened. This is not only the second set in the block (meaning that it'll be drafted for a great deal longer than DGM), but it also isn't competing with Modern Masters as an alternative draft format, which is why so few packs of DGM were opened. Even with a lower find rate, the number of FRF packs being opened is vastly larger than the number of DGM packs opened, which means that the fetches will be seen just as much if not more.

December 25, 2014 8:54 p.m.

Devonin says... #36

I think we'll have to see about "vastly larger"

So far, Ugin "might" be playable in a few places, and there's a greatly reduced rate of maybe getting fetches in some packs. Until more spoilers put some solid cards into circulation at rare, there's no reason to think this isn't going to be "another middle set" basically nobody cares about.

The fetches are a nice addition if the set doesn't turn out super mediocre, but if you care about opening fetches, you're still better off cracking KTK as it stands.
