In today's Magic Story, we were introduced to the werewolf planeswalker Arlinn Kord. With both her flip and human art looking pretty awesome, I'm pretty sure we're gonna get her as a card in SOI or the summer set. Any thoughts?

CastleSiege says... #2

I just finished reading the UR, but there is no indication that she is a planeswalker, only that she is an unusual werewolf. What makes you think she's a planeswalker?

Edit: Nevermind, just saw her planeswalker bio.

Her planeswalker profile.

Easy to miss though, since I think the only link to it is at the bottom of the UR.

I definitely have not been excited about a planeswalker in a long time. I just might build a deck with her soon.

Also, it looks like Wizards is having the Church being the bad guys. I see it as Church vs everyone else.

Sounds like real life back in the day... like 14th - 17th century day...

Ohthenoises says... #8

That makes at least 4 walkers from Innistrad so far.

I guess on a plane of nightmares a spark would be pretty easy to ignite yeah?

Considering she murdered a bunch of priests... I feel like I might have some kind of deep inner change too...

Maybe the flip card is fake? Probably not but...eh?

Note that on the leaked checklist card it says CH1 at the bottom. Some people are speculating that there is a CH2 card with the Rares/Mythics on it, where you would find Arlinn's card.

as long as whatever awesome werewolf happenings appear mean we can have a RG werewolf legend, maybe with even more colours if necessary, I am happy :-) and this sounds EPIC!

White isn't that unlikely unfortunately as of her whole Churchy backstory.

Feels like she'll be a wolf-token generating W/G planeswalker - she wants justice, but hangs out with werewolf packs.

Spootyone says... #21

Yo if she's GW, that'd be really dope...technically speaking, of course.

Don't get me wrong, I play R/G Werewolf Tribal and I'm looking forward to adding her to that deck. But I'm even more excited for Tibalt.

Mindgrind says... #23

A friend and I were thinking, if we had a planeswalker on both sides, see could have a 0 ability on BOTH sides that flipped her to her other side. Just a thought

March 2, 2016 8:44 p.m.

beakedbard says... #24

I'd actually prefer a R/G legendary werewolf to a planeswalker werewolf but this is the next best thing. Seems like she'll be done in a similar way to Garruk Relentless  Flip if she gets a card.

Homura_Akemi they don't reprint planeswalkers or legendary creatures apart from in supplemental product or core sets. So Lilly of the veil will not be reprinted

Is that even correct?

I thought Core sets had been abolished? And if they only print walkers in Core Sets then whats Elspeth, Sun's Champion doing?

March 3, 2016 7:08 a.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #29

maiden77, they're no longer doing Core Sets - TTBOMK, they don't have any rule against reprinting walkers; it's absolutely something that COULD happen.

March 3, 2016 7:12 a.m.

maiden77 says... #30

Yeah i was merely stating that the only place they did an actual planeswalker reprints was core sets and supplemental products. I never implied core sets weren't abolished. They have never reprinted legends or planeswalkers. They aren't going to start now, it's boring and repetitive. People want to see new stories. How can they explain planeswalkers or legends reverting back to old versions? Plus reprints they use to sell supplemental products like Conspiracy and Modern Masters. No way will lilly of the Veil be reprinted in Shadows or Eldritch

March 3, 2016 7:29 a.m.

Rayenous says... #31

While reprinting a previous version of a Planeswalker hasn't happened outside of core sets so far, there is nothing preventing it from happening.

Core sets were a convenient way for allowing reprints, as they did not have to be as 'flavourful'. Any version was acceptable.

Removing core sets still allows for reprints, but the reprinting of a particular version will be a little more restrictive as it would need to be a proper fit, both flavourfully and mechanically.

This means that the PW's with only 'their name' as the card name (Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, Gideon Jura... etc) could always be used. - So long as they interact well with the mechanics of the set/block.

It also means that other versions, such as Liliana of the Veil can also be reprinted, so long as they interact well, and any 'theme'/'flavour' is also a fit. - With Liliana of the Veil, the only issue is with the name. The 'of the Veil' mildly implies that the Cursed Veil plays some importance/role in this iteration of her. - It's hard to say if this would be enough to prevent the reprinting, as it could be argued that 'of the Veil' is simply a title, which the residence of Innistrad now view her as having. - Plus, if the mechanical theme/interaction is strong enough, it could warrant turning a blind-eye to the slight miss-match of the card name.

March 3, 2016 9:55 a.m.

Rayenous says... #32

I should add to that, that I don't think Liliana of the Veil is the version we will get in EMN.

The EMN image of her does not have her wearing the veil (flavour fail if she has 'of the Veil' in her name), and she is surrounded by zombies (Liliana of the Veil does not have, or interact with, zombies).

It it likely that this is a new version... but if it's not, then Liliana Vess is the only option that this image could be representing.

maiden77 says... #34

again, the biggest thing preventing reprints of big hitters such as planeswalkers and legendary creatures is that it's boring. Alot of people keep moaning about all these 'return to' sets. Imagine them returning and also reprinting the rarest cards, thus nullifying alot of excitement for people to use new cards, and also it would make standard boring, and make modern and all other formats boring as no new cards are coming in. If they do ever reprint any, I would be massively surprised. Its far too easy to reprint rather than make new shiny things, it's also far too easy to NOT reprint and so generate free hype for 'Masters products' the new money making babies that shoot through the roof all the time. Look at FoW, Tarmo, Karn, Vendilion Clique, etc. All huge draws to buy products

EverythingIsK says... #36

I think she would be a RG walker, but given that there's already 3 RG walkers, her being a 4th isn't off the table, but it could still happen.

As for what was said earlier, if it's justice she's looking for and being a werewolf, she would probably be a Planeswalker, which to me, is much more favorable.

And of course, I am hoping for a tibalt rendition in . : )

March 3, 2016 10:52 a.m.

Rayenous says... #37

@maiden77 - Wizards cares little about 'big hitters' when printing Standard sets. - They want to print cards that play well in Limited and Standard, while fitting with the ongoing story.

If a reprint will do this, then they will reprint. Otherwise, they will make a new card. (With the exception of not printing 'too many' reprints)

Saving these 'big hitters' for supplemental sets is clearly not the case, as MaRo has stated that they tried to reprint Liliana of the Veil in M14 and M15, and even looked at using her in Origins (before using the 'transform' idea), but each time she was simply too powerful. - This shows that they clearly do not care about 'reserving' the reprint for boosting sales of supplemental products.

Yes, they like having 'value' in supplements, but they have lots to choose from and would not hinder Blocks/Sets (their biggest revenue) just to increase a limited print run product.

TL;DR - Your concept of what they 'should' do is not the same as their concept of what they 'will' do.

March 3, 2016 10:55 a.m. Edited.

Atony1400 says... #38

Definantly did not see that coming.

Walkerwise, I'm betting on a Tibalt, Sorin, Tamiyo, and Arlington Kord block.

March 3, 2016 11:22 a.m.

maiden77 says... #39

My concept of what I apparently think they 'should' do is simply derived from what they have done all throughout the history of MTG since Planeswalkers were introduced. I also never said they shouldn't, i said I believe they wouldn't. Big difference there.

Saying they don't care about having 'big hitters' i think is just plain wrong. They absolutely intend on having some cards be 'the big cards' of the set. They must do, or it would be bland. No way can every big card of a set be accidental. I don't believe all cards are designed equally, and therefore, they must have designed some to be what they are, the big hitter of the set.

Your use of Lilly in M14, 15 and Origins simply supports what I said, all 'core set' even though Origins was named it was still the last core set.

I also absolutely agree that they wouldn't hinder a set, they just don't need to worry about it. The biggest value cards I can think of that they have reprinted in standard that needed a reprint have been Thoughtseize, fetches, Mutavault, Scavenging Ooze and shocks. Wizards have shown that the most popular and valuable cards simply do not get reprinted in standard.

I don't know if you are deliberately avoiding mentioning that I was only discussing planeswalkers and legendary creatures or not, but for what it's worth, that is what I have been on about here. Only those, and they have never been reprinted outside of core sets. So that precedent is what I am working with here, why expect something different when theres no historical evidence suggesting otherwise? False hope?

If they prove me wrong, great. Cheaper cards for all. I just think people are deluding themselves if they expect Snappy and Lilly in this set. I just can't see it happening. If you disagree thats fine by me, lets see in April

i would pay good money for that card!

March 3, 2016 11:56 a.m.

EverythingIsK says... #43

I don't think Sorin will have a planeswalker card since he was recently in khans block, sorta like how jace was a big part of Zendikar, but no planeswalker card to represent him. But I could be wrong.

If he does get a card, I hope he gets either a or a , a slight change from his last two renditions.

I wouldn't be sad if Tamiyo didn't show up, as I don't really see how she could contribute to the story given that we already have so many characters already given to us thus far (Sorin, Arlinn, Jace, Liliana, potentially a nahiri?, fan favourite tibalt!)

March 3, 2016 12:15 p.m.

Rayenous says... #44

Ugin sent Sorin in search of Nahiri.

Sorin has no reason (to our knowledge) to believe Nahiri is currently on Innistrad.

So, I see no reason to expect Sorin to be on Innistrad at this time.

March 3, 2016 12:21 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #45

Having Sorin be AFK for these events would make for a good revenge on revenge story later... Planeswalker wonder team has to try and mediate a fight between two sides... Nahiri and Sorin...

Planeswalker wonder team split on decision... probably starting with Chandra saying "I do what I want!"

Planewalker wonder team takes sides and there is civil war among the planeswalker "allies."

Maybe make them fight on Dominaria?

At the climax of this super hero conflict Emrakul arrives and screws up everything and releases Marit Lage.

BOOM!

Give me a movie contract.

@maiden77,

That may be true, but what about the confirmed Blood Moon reprint?

March 3, 2016 12:47 p.m.

EverythingIsK says... #47

Technically, it'd be call Captain Sorin :P

As for the Sorin/ Nahiri business, Sorin is trying to return balence to the plane. To my understanding, Sorin knows something about Nahiri that he doesn't tell Ugin, and that the potential information that he's keeping is that Nahiri is either in innastrad, or (very far fetched, but plausible theory) Nahiri was transformed into Avacyn.

As far as a Liliana of the Veil reprint goes, wouldn't that mean that she has stagnated?

March 3, 2016 12:53 p.m.

EverythingIsK says... #49

I heavily doubt a blood moon reprint, since wotc doesn't want cards like that to be in today's standard magic, compared to 10-15 years ago.

March 3, 2016 12:58 p.m.

maiden77 says... #50

first i have heard of Blood Moon reprint, and i doubt it's confirmed, Wizards don't like specific colour hating anymore.

Plus, and I can't make this clear enough, I was talking about them never reprinting legendary creatures and planeswalkers in non-supplementary sets. I have made this clear throughout. They occasionally reprint expensive cards, but not often, as my list above shows.

I am all for reprints, I am not a speculator, I am an avid EDH player with 22 decks and a foil EDH cube, as well as a couple of modern decks (infect and UG Tron) and some tiny leaders stuff. I just don't fool myself into thinking reprints that will not happen, are going to happen. That all I have been trying say, historically, Wizards have not reprinted walkers or legendaries in non-core or supplementary sets. I don't see why this will change now
