Assassin's Creed? Ugh, fine.

A lot of the flavor here feels really bland due to the use of historical people and public domain artifacts. (Wanna build a deck with both Cleopatra, Exiled Pharaoh and Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons?)

At least Outlaw and Assassin kindred decks are eating good. For commanders who want to attack, Brotherhood Regalia is pretty much a straight upgrade over e.g. Prowler's Helm.

I was pretty skeptical of the historical figures as cards at first, but I realized I spent a good amount of time murdering historical people and razing historical cities in the Age of Empires and Civilization series, so there's not really a difference for me there. Plus, Portal Three Kingdoms covers a lot of the same ground. I think the flavor's fine, at least no worse than some of the planes from the Doctor Who Planechase set--Pompeii, Besieged Viking Village, Prime Minister's Cabinet Room...

For me, this is simply another kinda interesting-looking Universes Beyond where I don't know the source material enough to talk about it. I'm expecting Mari, the Killing Quill + Etrata, the Silencer + Ramses, Assassin Lord to come out of the woodworks. Dimir, Esper, or Grixis Assassins. (That's not exactly a hot take, people have been talking about this for months, but it's pretty clear with the full set reveal.)

legendofa wasn't that the concept of Homelands; Using real-world settings and people?

TypicalTimmy Unless you know something about An-Havva Township and Grandmother Sengir that I don't, you might be thinking of something else. Portal Three Kingdoms was the Romance of the Three Kingdoms set, with Guan Yu, Sainted Warrior, Zhang He, Wei General, and a straight-up map of China with Balance of Power.

Timmy, I think you're referring to Arabian Nights. With cards like Bazaar of Baghdad, Library of Alexandria, and King Suleiman, it's really like they're referring to the real world Arab region. I think it's just around the 2000's they retrofitted the name of the plane to Rabiah because "they don't want real life references" to the game.

legendofa: Seeing as I didn't even make a Dr Who thread (nor anyone else lol), you can imagine my feelings regarding the cards you posted.

That aside, I'm not criticising Assassin's Creed's world in of it self. (I haven't played any of the games, but I've done some wiki binging to get the gist of it.) I just think a lot of it doesn't mesh well with MtG. If we haaaave to have UB, I'm OK with this franchise's pre-modern original characters.

If you got a blue-inclusive commander that has evasion and isn't too expensive, Eagle Vision is quite efficient, and not horrible to hardcast either.

Any thoughts for Templar Knight decks?

Graaz, Unstoppable Juggernaut & Akroma's Memorial pumps them so they can survive another go. (Also, Reconnaissance)

For generic immediate value, there's Bolas's Citadel , Chimil, the Inner Sun, God-Pharaoh's Statue, Mindslaver, The One Ring. Also Thrumming Stone, but it feels kinda winmore to fetch.

Extra combat cards that untap during combat lets you activate the Templars twice without them having to survive to attack again. Also, Augusta, Dean of Order  Flip and Tori D'Avenant, Fury Rider.

Coward_Token, could Reconnaissance (also reprinted in Assassin's Creed with updated rules text) work to similar effect as Augusta & Tori, for this interaction?

Crow_Umbra: AFAIK we're not allowed to have that much fun since it's removed from combat and therefor no longer attacking

"508.1k Each chosen creature still controlled by the active player becomes an attacking creature. It remains an attacking creature until it’s removed from combat or the combat phase ends, whichever comes first. See rule 506.4."
