Baseless: Nissa in 2015?
Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

I'm not betting on it or anything, but has anyone else noticed how much Wizards seems to be pushing Nissa's presence at PAX East, as well as the flavor text on Elvish Mystic ? This certainly doesn't seem to indicate anything in particular, but coupled with the facts that Ajani is in the set right before M15 and Wizards has largely gone dark on promoting him at PAX, what do you think the chances are of seeing a Nissa 2.0 in M15?
There's a photo floating around of a Wizards "achievement card", or whatever (similar to the pre-release ones) that tells you to find Garruk, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, and Nissa.
Of course, one inherent problem with these five Walkers being in the core-set is the color-pie. Jace has to be Blue and Chandra has to be Red, and Liliana will almost undoubtedly be Black (seeing as how she's a demon-killing witch of death). Garruk appears to be having issues with something, but he's always been completely devoted to Green. It certainly wouldn't be likely to see Garruk go White, especially since "hunting bigger game" doesn't sound White. This would leave Nissa to fill the White Walker's shoes, but her lore suggests she's more into Black magic than anything else (second to Green, obvs).
To those who don't think they'd break the cycle of the 5 Lorwyn Walkers, remember; Wizards gave us Gideon Jura and Sorin Markov for M12 in lieu of Ajani and Liliana, so they clearly aren't opposed to shaking up their Planeswalker lineup.
Again, this is simply speculation by a player who is excited by the idea of Nissa coming back.
What do you think?
You'll notice that Gideon is on that card as well. The current theory is that Garruk will be a gold card, probably black-green, and that Nissa will replace him as the mono-green walker (hopefully with a new card for her).
April 13, 2014 1:18 p.m.
Huh. Well, I was seeing that image cropped without Gideon this whole time.
That changes my post a bit, but further supports the idea of Nissa coming back.
Perhaps with Garruk going Black naturally (without Liliana's Veil cursing the hell out of him), he's calling upon Nissa (who knows Black and Green magic) to help him. That would explain her coming to the set, lore-wise.
April 13, 2014 1:20 p.m.
The core set traditionally has little to do with story. There's no evidence that Garruk and Nissa even know each other, and if you take a look at Garruk's new action figure and plush toy, it's pretty clear that he is still under the Chain Veil's curse.

Well as far as I'm concerned, this webpage:
http://www.gatheringmagic.com/news-02162014-funko-magic-action-figures-announced/
... confirms Nissa in M15.

What do you mean Garruk "has always been completely devoted to Green?" Do you not remember Garruk Relentless Flip ? And you speculate that he may be white, but you never bring up speculation that he may be Black again. And the pictures and trailer make him feel very dark, killing other planeswalkers and all. Garruk will most certainly be black/green.
April 13, 2014 1:30 p.m.
Garruk has always been completely devoted to Green, until the Veil Curse turned him evil-ish. He is still devoted to nature and natural selection and big effin' creatures.
I never said I think he'd be White, either.

He's not technically evil when he's under the Chain Veil's curse, just... animalistic and insane. Clearly Avacyn wasn't able to help him as much as he wanted.
Although it's a little odd that Wizards is giving him a new card, right after he got a new card in M14.
April 13, 2014 1:47 p.m.
Meh. That last bit's not so weird. Liliana of the Veil came out and then got Liliana of the Dark Realms 9 months later. Garruk got Garruk, Primal Hunter and then Garruk Relentless Flip in the very next set.

I suppose. I wonder it Gideon will get a new card or if Gideon, Champion of Justice will get reprinted.
April 13, 2014 1:52 p.m.
I don't know where this was confirmed or if this was confirmed at all, but I strongly believe m15 is nissa, gideon, jace, chandra, liliana, and a G/B or just B garruk.
This is according to cmg635 who I trust with this information, but I don't know where it is confirmed

So I think we all are in agreeance about everyone except Garruk. What makes me wonder is that there are 2 Garruks on that card, which makes me curious on what he will be
April 13, 2014 2:13 p.m.
Garruk Relentless Flip reprint? Seems highly unlikely, but he is still cursed and Garruk could be on that card twice because he has two sides (an unassuming side and a hunting side).
Of course, he could be on there twice simply because he's the mascot of M15.

I think there's a good chance. Mainly because of these:

With the times circling the summer (which is when M15 comes out), it seems like too much of a coincidence

@cschiller ~ how does a diablo 3 expansion trailer confirm Garruk will be black? Lol
April 13, 2014 2:46 p.m.
Bellock86: Looked like a Magic:2015 Trailer to me when I clicked and watched.
April 13, 2014 2:59 p.m.
Uh, yeah. That's definitely a link to the DotPW 2015 trailer. I wouldn't go so far as to say it "confirms" it (as it's not "confirmed" until they show the card), but it definitely support the theory that Garruk will be Gold and Nissa will be Green.
I actually crave a Green Planeswalker that doesn't just sit and make big creatures for you. Nissa Revane is a very clever Planeswalker and was only "bad" because it was in Standard with Lightning Bolt , and died to it even after the plus.
April 13, 2014 3:03 p.m.
My apologies to cschiller. I just rewatched from my PC. The first time I watched it was from my phone and all I was getting was the add which was for Diablo 3 expansion.
I actually thought he was just making a joke by linking that when I thought it was D3.
It would definitely suggest that garruk will be perhaps change color to black. That would be sweet.
April 13, 2014 3:52 p.m.
@Bellock86 - How is it that a trailer titled "Magic 2015 - Duels of the Planeswalkers Teaser Trailer", and ends with "Magic 2015" - "Hunt Bigger Game" and "#MAGIC2015", is mistakes for a Diablo 3 Expansion trailer?
I see Garruk as being very "Phyrexian" in nature... poisoning plants and nature just by being near it.
This would make me speculate that he may be colorless... (we're overdue for another).
Thus leaving Nissa to fill the Green spot.
I doubt that Garruk will be multicolor... the only multicolor card let alone Planeswalker ever printed in a core set was Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker . - I don't remember where I read it, but Wizards did say that they do not plan on printing multicolor again in a core set any time soon (they didn't say never, but were clear that there was no plan in the near future).
April 13, 2014 5:16 p.m.
Sorry.... didn't see the second page. - Didn't realize that Bellock86 explained the mistake.
April 13, 2014 5:18 p.m.
Garruk being colorless makes very little sense. Karn was only colorless because he was created from an artifact for artifacts. Planeswalkers, otherwise, always have color because that's how they get their power and grow - by aligning with a color of Magic.

That'll be interesting to see a multicolored card in a core set. I'd like to see it though. Shimmering Grotto doesn't count

April 13, 2014 6:42 p.m.
could WotC possibly be planning to release TWO black planeswalkers? o_O
April 13, 2014 6:44 p.m.
It's possible. I mean we're talking about the company that printed Jace, the Mindsculptor. Anything is possible.
But historically speaking it is extremely unlikely. I wouldn't complain if they did print two black walkers in one core set but I doubt they will.

GoldGhost012 says... #32
Wizards once printed 2 black, 2 blue, and 2 red Walkers in a core set before.

The https://www.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/1431 have Ajani as the white PW, not Gideon.
So it might not completely coincide with M15.
April 14, 2014 12:51 p.m.
Given that link, the fact that they have an action figure for Nissa is promising. Of all the one-shot block-specific Planeswalkers to make an action figure of, there just has to be some significance there.

I imagine That M15 will be a crazy set. Im looking forward to Gideon. I hope he is either a reprint of Gideon Jura or a new Gideon altogether. Im also wondering about Jace. I want a new version of him, too.

you know it would be interesting if Nissa gets turned into a R/G walker cause khans of talkir seems to be all about savage clans and barbarians perhaps elf's turn in there "bitch race" card and dip into the red side of things. but since we had Domri Rade and xenegos be medium to major R/G plot points in the past 2 sets soo i wouldn't count on it

Interesting. I just read the official Jace vs. Vraska Duel Deck Daily MTG article and Vraska apparently know what's up with Garruk and Jace, curiosity piqued, walks off to find him and figure out what's wrong with him. Maybe that'll be the plot of DOTP 2015?

I was under the impression Koth would be the red planeswalker this time, because he's featured on the July FNM promo version of Magma Spray . http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg%2Fdaily%2Farcana%2F1494

Also there's the idea that Nissa is one of the six "action figures" they are making, which seems odd considering that The 5 make up the others.
May 28, 2014 10:08 a.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #43
moxGemmarald it might be hard to ever see Koth again since last we knew he's probably dead. Surrounded by Phyrexian Obliterator s and holding an explosive spellbomb does wonders for your health.
If there was a word to describe how dead he probably is, it would be cadaverific.
May 28, 2014 11:43 a.m.
KrosanTusker says... #44
Koth never died on-screen so I think the best guess is that he planeswalked away and survived.
Supposing Nissa does return, should we expect a new card, or the same Nissa Revane , like how they reprinted Sorin Markov ?
May 28, 2014 12:08 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #45
New card. No doubt in my mind.
And I personally think Koth died, or at least detonated the Spellbomb. He's very devoted to his mission to destroying the Phyrexians.
May 28, 2014 12:11 p.m.
Koth being featured in a promo means nothing for a reprint. They do things like this all the time.
May 28, 2014 1:07 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #48
Usually you'd be right zandl but this is an fnm promo which more often than not reflects something at least recent ya know?
May 28, 2014 1:39 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #49
Koth just recently "died." It was just before Elspeth got to Theros, and the mission and the reason he forced Elspeth to 'walk away was the reason Elspeth came to Theros. So yeah, it makes sense for him to be on a promo.
May 28, 2014 1:46 p.m.

I mean if recent means a few years ago. By recent i mean something that has to do with the current plane or something

Okay. It's not really baseless as there is a base for the idea. yadda yadda
