Apparently, Wizards didn't want us to go away from X color decks anytime soon...
April 11, 2014 12:07 a.m.
Unless you are running 3 colors is this really even that good? Don't get me wrong, its cool to have a City of Brass in Standard again, but I don't see this being a necessity in any of the 2 color builds out there right now, and the mono devotion decks won't want to touch this. It's good, but $40? I'm not sold on that yet since there are way less 3 and 4 color decks now than we saw in the RtR block standard.

GoldGhost012 - It's not up on SCG or TCG yet. But we'll know tomorrow what the market is set for it.
April 11, 2014 12:28 a.m.
It's a strictly better City of Brass (for all intents and purposes; it only damages you when you want it to) that's only been/going to have been printed in one set, and it's Standard legal. Seems legit.

It's an eternal format card. That is mainly why it will be so high.

Whoa! I never expected that to come in this set... I bet its going to be expensive as hell unless they make new better dual lands or reprint fetch lands in the the future set, but even then... ):
April 11, 2014 1:55 a.m.
God I love this card. Hopefully it won't be expensive (because I want like 10 of it) but deep down I know it will be.
April 11, 2014 5:45 a.m.
This card will work wonders for triple colour decks and I'm VERY excited to see the meta after this is released. This could lead to great diversification, which is fantastic. It potentially even makes 4 colour viable (whilst shocks and temples are in). Once shocks go I wouldnt be that bold as to play 4, but could see 3 being comfortable.
April 11, 2014 5:48 a.m.
megawurmple says... #17
Holy shit! $60 each? Whoever is buying this land for $60 is an idiot. I reckon that once release hype dies down, this will be around $8-10. It's good, but not necessary in a lot of deck right now. Just look at City of Brass ; that thing hardly ever gets played.
April 11, 2014 6:11 a.m.
I think CoB isn't played because it's overkill; shocklands can pretty much achieve what you want in a tricolour deck most of the time. It's a luxury having a card like CoB, but it's not a necessity. I mean in vintage you have the ABUR lands and shocks, in modern you have shocks and fetches - so i understand why CoB is not essential.
Also it's worth noting that CoB has many reprints and this won't so you can't really compare the price accurately.
I completely agree that $60 is absurd. I wouldn't like paying more than $10 for this.

Meh, sounds like a pain land. Can't figure out any real reason most decks would want this.
40-60$ seems extreme and stupid. Pain Lands aren't that good.
IMO seems more like a 4$ card.
April 11, 2014 9:59 a.m.
APPLE01DOJ It's not a pain land, it's a land that etb's untaped and taps for any color at the cost of one life. This is City of Brass for standard (as mentioned above, it is also strictly better). If you can't figure out why most decks would want this, I'm sorry. But it's great because you get to use it the turn it comes in, it fixes your mana and easily playable into any two, three, five color deck out there. It'll cut down on the number of lands that you need that etb tapped in your mana base. It'll provide better mana fixing than any of the scry lands can provide. As LSV stated in his article previewing this card, decks that want to run fewer lands but can't will be able to with this baby.
FYI, playsets are on ebay (us) for 50+.

erabel and APPLE01DOJ: This card isn't strictly better than City of Brass , as the damage effect of City of Brass can be prevented with cards like Riot Control . You cannot prevent paying of life.
April 11, 2014 12:13 p.m.
APPLE01DOJ says... #22
well ur right. pain lands like Llanowar Wastes can at least tap colorless for free.
I get that it can mana fix, but I use pain lands in a casual deck (with bounce/karoo lands too) and they suck. Can't imagine this doing more good then harm in anything besides a combo deck.
Sure u could say, u get to use it twice and it's the same as a shock, but meh. still not even close to sold on it.

I am really looking forward to this card. I think it will jump a bit in value once RTR rotates out. I've been waiting for a land like this for my super janky Boros Reckoner + Boros Charm + Dictate of the Twin Gods combo deck that I plan on building.

APPLE01DOJ says... #24
Gorgosaurusrex Not true.
I'll have to quote Slycne
"Depends on the situation. If your opponent is on 3 life, City of Brass is your only way to make Red and you're at 1 life, you can respond to the trigger on the stack to kill them with Lightning Bolt as state-based actions will check for them loosing before the trigger resolves. Mana Confluence makes that impossible as it's part of the cost."

Sorry Gorgosaurusrex, lil high right now, that answer probably made no sense.
I meant Angel of Jubilation is a thing.

I don't see why you would run this when Unknown Shores is just as viable.

WhiteEyesCloudedbyH8 says... #27
@canterlotguardian I see your username is related to the mlp:ccg, I'm guessing you don't play mtg competetively, otherwise you would know Unknown Shores is nowhere near as good as this new land Mana Confluence
April 11, 2014 2:32 p.m.
canterlotguardian says... #28
I don't actually play the MLP CCG because it's not as good as Magic. Second, I was being wholly sarcastic. I despise the Shores (and by extension, Shimmering Grotto ) because they're useless. if you're going to have to tap 2 lands for 1 mana of a specific color, why not just use a land of that color? also I do recognize how good Mana Confluence is.
tl;dr I was kidding, and you took my comment way too seriously.
April 11, 2014 2:34 p.m.
WhiteEyesCloudedbyH8 says... #29
you poised it as though you seriously thought that.

GoldGhost012, you were way off. it's on pre-order for 19.99. (SCG)

I see comments like that as being like "Storm Crow is the best card ever". It's so outrageous and out-there that I just assume people are going to automatically assume (correctly) that I'm trying to troll them. Obviously not.
April 11, 2014 2:40 p.m.
WhiteEyesCloudedbyH8 says... #32
There are ways of exemplifying sarcasm, such as italics, or saying 'ya right' at the end of your statement. Or bringing up Storm Crow .
You did none of those things. Sorry I didn't catch your sarcasm, It was not apparent.
April 11, 2014 2:44 p.m.
@Gorgosaurusrex But at the same time, it can't be doubled by flashing in the new Furnace of Rath equivalent they just spoiled either.

I liked playing casually with Fire Servant but that was back in my early days when I thought doubling a Fireball was cool.
April 11, 2014 2:53 p.m.
canterlotguardian says... #35
depending on how you doubled it, that could be viable.

canterlotguardian Storm Crow is not only the greatest card in existence, but he is also supreme ruler of the multiverse. Soon, the great Lord Crow will rise to power, and non-believers will be dealt with according to the whim of Lord Crow. You shall see in good time.

oh I already know this. Storm Crow is love, Storm Crow is life. All hail his feathery appendage.

Yet another thread derailed by Storm Crow 's power (praised be his name). His power to derail threads is truly magnificent.

There is no inappropriate time to discuss our Lord and Savior Storm Crow (Hallowed be his sacred name)

Chromanticore just got better!
But honestly, so good. Nothing wrong with this card.
April 11, 2014 4:38 p.m.
megawurmple says... #46
That's a valid point actually: will Chromanticore be viable? I'm not sure about constructed, but next time I draft, I'm pulling Mana Confluence , Chromanticore and Sylvan Caryatid and going 5-colour.
