Ok, so we have a couple of tidbits of information for the prerelease of Battle for Zendikar
1/ There will be no seeded boosters any more in the packs. ORI will be the last set with those for the foreseeable future. BFZ will have a single datestamped foil RANDOM rare or mythic in the box.
2/ The prerelease boxes for BFZ will contain only 18 prerelease... smaller boxes, instead of the usual 20. This can mean that instead of the 5 factions, dedicated to 5 colors or 5 pairs of colors, we may have 6 factions. Several possibilities:
5 colors or color pairs and 1 colorless for the Eldrazi faction
5 colors or color pairs and 1 land-based faction, representing the land of Zendikar.
5 colors or color pairs and 1 Planeswalker alliance faction, representing our company of heroes (Kiora, non-Liliana Origins walkers, etc.)
Something else entirely.
Could mean nothing.
Well, I sincerely doubt that an integer that does not end in 5 or a 0 is more convenient for packing purposes. And if we have basically just the promo, a die, 6 packs and a story-related piece of cardboard, will be more convenient to just mail to stores the dice, informational cardboard and promos in small package and request stores to order additional booster boxes for the boosters.
In summary, while I like the idea of a straight up sealed, which BFZ is shaping up to have, I much prefer the Origins way of doing things - promo + 7 seeded cards was the best in recent memory and I am sad it lasted only 1 set.

um... 18 works fine if you package in a 3x6 manner vs 4x5 for 20...
as far as speculation, doing away with seeded would get rid of the ability to faction people easily as you have no way of encouraging that color.
The change is probably packaging purposes.

I don't think there would be any colour pairs this time. Just everyone vs Eldrazi.

It could also be like the 20 packaging with 2 of the pre-release packs replaced by some additional promo stuff like the Ugin boosters in the FRF pre-release.

Yeah, I really can't see them both taking away seeded boosters/promos, and keeping factions. That just seems counterintuitive.

How about: They don't do faction packs since there are no seeded boosters? Since they scrapped the seeded boosters because they didn't want to force players into making an early choice, having faction based boosters would be kind of the reverse, right?
18 might just be a more convenient way of packaging than 20.
