So that's the sweeper huh? Anger of the Gods feels better. I guess together they're an expensive board wipe. Wonder if there will be a wrath other than Planar Cleansing or the new 7cmc white one.

On the bright side Drown in Sorrow allows you to hold on to you spot removal and not waste them on early targets.
And I won't have to spend $40-$80 for a playset.

So we have a creature reanimator in standard now shame he's so expensive and easy to remove i'd love him if he had regenerate instead of his second ability. Looks great in EDH though as someone already stated. The boardwipe is a great in sideboards against aggro decks but i don't see it being mainboarded much. The aura is pretty nice i think as with Ephara herself I'd prefer in in a standard where we still have loads of flash but you can bring Heliod's creatures in at any point.

the game day promos for kioras follower and Pain Seer look amazing, cant wait to see them in person
the skelly seems fine in EDH but nothing else
The new inspired token spawners vary, (In limited) Blue seems the best, able to attack without being easy to kill, and the tokens are 2/2 fliers. Black is really easy to kill, with flimsy evasion, and the tokens are only 2/2s without evasion. Green is way too costly especially considering it only spans 3/3s. White is ok, really cheap but flimsy, but also spawns 2 tokens which might be relevant. and Red seems only good when you can attack without an enemy blocker, his tokens are probably the best, but he is really weak himself.
the new enchantment is cute, but to me its 3 mana for +1/+1 and flying, i prefer Gift of Orzhova in standard, maybe the other ones will be better.

I might actually give Champion a try in my Gray Merchant based Standard deck in place of Bow of Nylea My Shattergang Brothers EDH deck alongside Lifeline , Leyline of the Void and Grave Pact . Now time to try to figure out what can come out for it.

For those that want to make minotaur tribal a thing, here's

A Minotaur version of Edgewalker intriguing not amazing but a 2cmc Boros Reckoner does seem nice also making the B/R minotaur lord only cost 3 could make it usable.
January 15, 2014 5:36 p.m.
He's not legendary so putting a 2nd one out only costs you 1 colorless and would make Reckoner a 1 drop.
January 15, 2014 7:21 p.m.
Rasta_Viking29 says... #12
I think he might be the new Burning-Tree Emissary . Fixes mana. Like was just said playing the 2nd and every minotaur is a 1 drop or 2 drop except 1. Chandra, Pyromaster is huge in this deck as it will drop its hand quick and she can nix there best blocker. Good matchup with MUD for red having access to black removal. Might be on to something.
January 15, 2014 7:31 p.m.
is Ragemonger!'s effect cumulative? so if I have a playset in the field, Boros Reckoner is free?
January 15, 2014 7:34 p.m.
Yeah, it's cumulative so it's very possible to get free Reckoners with multiples of this guy out. Really makes multiple Reckoners into Fanatic of Mogis in a single turn for massive amounts of damage sound tempting
January 15, 2014 7:40 p.m.
Skelly + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed EDH. I will gladly do this.
January 15, 2014 7:43 p.m.
I'm not impressed with Xenagos at all. He's too expensive for a card that's completely dead without support, especially one that only works in Aggro or MAYBE Midrange. Topdecking him after a Supreme Verdict isn't half as useful as Stormbreath Dragon .
I could see him being a fun EDH Commander, but really I think Standard has better options.
I dig Searing Blood, though.

I'm.....ok with the G/W god... Not ecstatic but ok...
January 16, 2014 12:22 a.m.
I like this. It allows you to tuck the gods even when they don't have enough devotion.
January 16, 2014 12:30 a.m.
I feel like this card is going to be great it's almost a fusion of Mana Leak + Counterspell An almost always 2 mana hard counter unless you want to pay more for it.
January 16, 2014 1:13 a.m.
Rasta_Viking29 says... #25
That counter makes me sick. It's soo good for MUD. We are getting some amazing uncommons.
Bile Blight is possible sideboard card.
Unravel the aether, Destructive Revelry or Fade into Antiquity . Want to see what the pros play.

Seering Blood is in my opinion one of the best cards I've seen in the spoilers i see that becoming a staple in mono-red decks. Removing something with 2 toughness or less and dealing 3 damage to a player for 2cmc yes please. Thassa's Rebuff and Bile Blight are also quite cool but seem more like sideboard tech the blue one may see some mainboard play. The two gods spoiled on the other hand are completely subpar in most cases unless you are going for Worldspine Wurm hardcast you won't need extra lands at that point in the game it works in EDH but not standard. Xenagos has a nice ability but his cost is far too high sure there is the synergy with the new hydra and it works perfectly in some R/G decks but its just a really predictable thing and people will just put removal straight on the stack and stop the creature and ability at the same time. I just hope the last god is epic. The only god I'm liking so far is Mogis.

So far Mogis, God of Slaughter looks like the coolest god..

That burn is awsome. We have a completely viable burn deck in standard.

harrydemon117 says... #29
Bile Blight is like a 2 CMC Maelstrom Pulse for creatures with x/3 or less. At its worst it's a black Lightning Strike which is still darn good.

Herald of Torment will be spoiled tonight at GMT 0:00.
It is a rare demon with terrible art. Nothing else is know yet.
January 16, 2014 11:09 a.m.

WW is seeming better by the second the two cards above are going straight in my deck. On another note i wasn't expecting the Green archetype to be hexproof but then again everything else in green already has mass buffers. Makes me think that the Black one will be intimidate simply because we have deathtouch and lifelink buffers already.
January 17, 2014 5:31 a.m.
Ultimaodin says... #35
I expected green to be hexproof, I wasn't expecting it to cost 8 bloody mana though. They made it completely unplayable. :( At 8 mana, helping other creatures from dying from certain sources seems bad.
January 17, 2014 5:59 a.m.
beakedbard says... #36
Aye its another one of those cards that's only playable in EDH on said note though my Animar deck is loving the look of the green and blue archetypes.
January 17, 2014 6:20 a.m.
i wouldnt even say its playable in EDH, Asceticism and Privileged Position are generally better options and are also harder to remove.
January 17, 2014 7:40 a.m.
I'm going to test the Hexproofer in my A Tribute to Devotion deck... I'm not sure it will have synergy with the rest of the deck, but I should not have any issues with mana, as far as getting it out. Even then, there's still Garruk, who can bring it in.

Is it bad that I'm chomping at the bit for the green in this set? Nessian Wilds Ravager is going to be sweet in green devo. Archetype of Endurance is expensive, but with green devo, that can be a turn 3/4 card easily that can only be countered or mass removal. Skyreaping is going to be WAAAAAAAAAY cooler than Plummet overall for sideboard. Karametra is some sick mana ramp, with green having so many combos for getting creatures on the board. Unravel the Aether might be a good swap-out for Fade into Antiquity or Destructive Revelry on the sideboard in order to get gods off the board. Xenagos looks good, although that's on paper. In game, I don't know how worthwhile his enchantment will be. Seems like you are just creating a #1 target for a downfall.
Overall, though, it looks solid. I'm excited. This set looks fantastic so far.

Ohthenoises, Confidant is much better than Seer. No question about it.

Depends on the board state, in a vacuum they are equal seeing as both attack and both draw a card next turn.
One way it's better is it's cheaper.

........aaaaaaaaaaaaand Phenax is lame. So bummed.
However, Spiteful Returned is so adorable and excellent. 4-drop bestow for life loss before damage is dealt from the swing? So lovely!

2x Wall of Frost , 1x Phenax, God of Deception , 2x Triton Tactics or Hidden Strings = mill 48-60 at instant speed.

Even then, as I mentioned, Champion of Stray Souls will be nice for MBD in Standard (if someone is that daring) to get Gray Merchants out of the GY and back onto the battlefield, all dealing damage at once and really putting a frown on someone's face. Hell, you could even use him to sacrifice a Pack Rat and pop out a GY'd DD.
