Cards you would like to see in BNG

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

I was sitting here thinking to myself, if I could think of 1 card that really would help stabilize the meta in my area, which is control huge. It would be a Cavern of Souls type card, it would give the creature decks a real edge, and set the U/W and Esper decks back a bit.
Another card I would like to see, is a decent 2-drop double black creature. Or a 1-drop that does something nice in black. Any of blacks decent cards start at 3 CMC, at least if you are wanting to do a mid-range devotion angle anyways.
How about you? What would you like to see?

ChiefBell says... #1

Golgari and other midrange decks (especially reanimator) would use damnation to shut down aggro.

I'm really looking for some cards that will put white weenies over the top. And on that note, some more GOOD white devotion cards would be gret, along with some new heroic. Something like "Whenever you target _ , creatures you control become indestructible until the end of your turn"

TexasDice says... #3

@Chiefbell Those decks could actually use a push. Especially Reanimator.

For aggro balance, there's always Boros Charm. Or they just print a better one drop and/or a new Hellrider. Last seasons rdw aggro was a beast, despite bonfire and supreme verdict.

I would like to see some decent mill cards and some fair land destruction. Also a few hand hatred cards would be cool. I expect devotion and heroic to come strong. I would like to see some buy back or flashback but who knows what we will see.

Dorotheus says... #5

As far as the standard is concerned, I don't believe we'll see any other discard or hand hate because of Thoughtseize . However I could maaaaaaybe see madness come become something for R/B making Lotleth Troll a beast and giving people some of the better reanimation synergy tools they want.
Guarantee no flashback and its been a while for buyback, but its not too flavorful for Theros, so probably not, it is overdue though, so maybe after Theros block.

I'd like to see some more mill and remake mill viable in standard again. I'd also like some better card draw that's NOT Sphinx's Revelation (I.E. not UW) maybe reprint of Serum Visions , which I think could be made to fit by flavorfully

I want them to start using some of the good Future Sight keywords and abilities, likely it would be Grandeur (Tarox Bladewing ), as legends seem to be easy to print in a mythology block or maybe Delve (Tombstalker ) would be cool.

I, personally, would most love to see Fateseal (Spin into Myth ) make its official debut. I understand it could be a broken mechanic in some cases, but whenever a few balanced fateseal printings come out, I'll be ecstatic. Like some sort of Black or Blue (or both) Oracle with "Heroic - Fateseal 1" or Fateseal as an ETB or tap ability.

More tribal love!

Theros had too many of the same old demons, soldiers, giants, spirits, merfolk, elementals, zombies, etc.

I want more minotaurs, gorgons, and satyrs! Heck, even griffins and centaurs would be okay if they got their own lords and some tribal synergy.

As for new mechanics/themes/characters - things based off oracles' prophecies, hero-quests, demigods, etc. would be super-tasty flavor.

@10vernothin: The RRRRR one looks pretty powerful, especially since it curves nicely after Boros Reckoner and Fanatic of Mogis . Maybe each creature instead of each creature you don't control would be more balanced. At least Anger of the Gods hits everything

January 3, 2014 5:48 a.m.

TexasDice says... #13

@Thebigshaggy: I doubt Grandeur will make an appearance in Theros, it fit's more into "Return to Kamigawa".

Kamigawa was pretty Legend-heavy, while Theros has it's fair share of legends, but isn't that much into them.

I just hope this isn't another Dragons' Maze type set. Where we get 40 mono colored cards and like a zillion useless dual cards with these demi-gods. That set really irritated me. I just want to see some balanced cards that affect all deck types evenly and adjust the current metas so its a brewing paradise. It would be nice for a change to just have a bunch of good cards that are a blast to play with and every match comes down to the wire

Dorotheus says... #15

Rage of the Mountain BRR
Tribal Sorcery - Minotaur
Deal 2 damage to all non-minotaur creatures.
Minotaurs gain +2/+0 until end of turn

U want? lol

pandith says... #16

All I want is more artifacts.

A really good standard artifact deck is my dream. They already have Springleaf Drum coming. It's bound to happen, right?

January 3, 2014 10:52 a.m.

Dunethief says... #17

There are two devotion items that are missing: a 3-drop GGG creature for mono-green devotion (which would otherwise be quite powerful), and a good white devotion card. All we have right now is Heliod and Evangel of Heliod . I feel that Heliod isn't that strong of a card in devotion decks, and the Evangel costs too much, not to mention that it competes for Elspeth in the 6-cmc slot.

If this were to happen, then there is a chance that there would be a devotion deck for each color in the Top 8 of a Pro Tour or a GP, which would be cool.

January 4, 2014 10:44 a.m.

@DaggerV There's a rumor that there will be such a card, with the return an enchant ability costing 2 colorless.

January 5, 2014 12:38 a.m.

DaggerV says... #19

That would be cool, wasn't expecting it so much as it'd be a great time to slip one in.

Flavor Cycle for Wish fulfillment:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heeded Prayers
W
Enchantment
Whenever creatures you control attack an opponent or a planeswalker he or she controls for the first time this turn, put a Wish counter on Heeded Prayers. If you do, you may untap each creature after this combat, and there is another combat phase after the next main phase. Sacrifice Heeded Prayers when there are 3 or more Wish counters on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Engineered Encounters

UU

Enchantment

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a Wish counter on Engineered Encounter. If you do, you may look at the top two cards of your library, exile one face down, then put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. You may play the exiled card as long as it's exiled. Sacrifice Engineered Encounters when there are 3 or more Wish counters on it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inspiring Invocations
1RR
Enchantment
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a Wish counter on Inspiring Invocations. If you do, you may copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. Sacrifice Inspiring Invocations when there are 3 or more Wish counters on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Empowered Worship

2GG

Enchantment

Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, put a Wish counter on Empowered Worship. If you do, you may untap up to x lands, where x is its converted mana cost. Sacrifice Empowered Worship when there are 3 or more Wish counters on it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hushed Summons
3BB
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a Wish counter on Hushed Summons. If you do, you may return target creature from your graveyard to the battlefield. It is a black zombie in addition to its other types. Sacrifice Hushed Summons when there are 3 or more Wish counters on it.
The catch is that the wish counter is put on there whether you like it or not. If you don't animate anything with Hushed Summons within three turns, then tough luck, Erebos ain't gonna wait for you to respond to his boon.
@ thetechzombie green has a triple devotion card in Rubblebelt Raiders
January 5, 2014 5:13 p.m.
Dalektable says... #22
the3rdH0kage I think he means as for a 3 drop GGG devotion slot. Rubblebelt Raiders gives triple devotion but in a four drop slot.
Gidgetimer says... #23
I find it interesting that people are clamoring for things that they normally would not want at all. Triple colored mana costs make cards incredibly hard to cast in anything except a mono colored deck but because devotion is a thing people now want more mana symbols.
Not really commenting on that want one way or another since one of my friends has a deck based around the forerunner to Devotion, Chroma, and it kicks major butt in casual. I just find it interesting.
I read something about a Dark Confidant spoiler. I'd love to see it reprinted, but it seems unlikely because it's pretty broken, and that'd be a third print.
January 5, 2014 8:56 p.m.
Philliam says... #25
Turn_Soonest,
I heard something like that too. I think what I read is that its a card that was inspired by Bob, iirc.
January 5, 2014 9:04 p.m.
Gidgetimer says... #26
Seton, Krosan Protector would fit the flavor of the set nicely, though they would need a story reason for him to appear and all the druids in standard already produce mana. So it would be cool to have:
(FANTASY NAME), Nessian Protector
GGG
Legendary Creature - Centaur Druid
Tap an untapped Centaur you control: Add G to your mana pool.
2/2
January 5, 2014 9:06 p.m.
Dorotheus says... #27
I would have actually liked more Centaur tribal love.
But there are a lot of Tribal things that I'd like to see get some love in general.
Ultimaodin says... #34
To be honest, I'd ask to give me Gilder Bairn .
Although an Enchantment such as:
Blessing of Kruphix
1GB:
GB: Target permanent becomes a 2/4 Green Blue Nymph Enchantment Creature until end of turn.
Flavour text: In time a spirit shall be molded from all.
I really just want a two turn Kiora.
January 9, 2014 9:31 p.m.
Lord007 says... #35
Ultimaodin I assume since you are talking about Kruphix you meant to have the casting cost and ability cost be 1GU and GU respectively? (B=Black, U=blUe)
Personally, I'm looking for some decent tutor cards for a combo deck, some mill because mill is simply my favorite strategy ever, and of course, like most people, I was disappointed with Kiora's casting cost and starting loyalty.
January 9, 2014 10:25 p.m.
Ultimaodin says... #36
Yes I did... I keep doing that -_-
I can understand why she isn't 3 loyalty because outside of standard she'd be broken as eff. Unfortunately dropping it to 2 makes her completely lack-luster in standard.
January 9, 2014 10:39 p.m.
Dorotheus says... #37
I did realize today that UR could use some more cards that don't suck, aren't random, and/or stronger in the P/T department.
Not just the same Blast of Genius or Cloven Casting types card repeats on different sticks.
An Academy Ruins for enchantments would be so broken for Gods.
January 10, 2014 1:48 a.m.
MaliciousMac says... #39
Oh, I'm behind on this thread.
I want to see different blue devotion creatures, and more varied win conditions.
January 10, 2014 1:53 a.m.
I'd like to see some more flashable enchantments. Something like Cho-Manno's Blessing would be amazing, for example. Something like Alpha Authority without the blocking part but with flash would be nice, too.
There needs to be some sort carrot to make heroic effects more playable. Right now they're too hit or miss.
