Am I the only person really flipping out that they haven't spoiled the Temur house leader yet??? Any other Temur fans out there???

GoldGhost012 says... #2

They're doing it for exactly your reaction: to raise the level of hype for it.

MindAblaze says... #3

Who doesn't want to see the Bearpuncher? I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

September 3, 2014 12:52 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #4

I'm more interested in the basic lands.

September 3, 2014 12:57 p.m.

@trentfaris242 everybody has different styles of playing man :P

But otherwise, I know they're doing that for my reaction, but its still killing me!!!

Spootyone says... #6

I know I'm frustrated by it...stupid WOTC and knowing how the human mind works.

September 3, 2014 1:07 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #7

I too am anxious, as long he isn't just bear-tribal hate

September 3, 2014 1:12 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #8

I think he'll end up being the bear, not the bear puncher. Plot twist.

September 3, 2014 1:13 p.m.

Spootyone says... #9

ChiefBell: In a way I hope he does. As my GF mentioned, we've seen 3,4,5 and 6-mana khans now. I don't want him to be a 7-drop and crush my hopes again after Emmara Tandris ...then Karametra, God of Harvests ....then Kruphix, God of Horizons ...

September 3, 2014 1:17 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #10

I remember last time I was hyped for a spoiler. ...and then they spoiled Pharika, God of Affliction . That was the last time I was gonna anticipate a spoiler. :/

September 3, 2014 1:21 p.m.

Spootyone says... #11

APPLE01DOJ: At least yours saw the light of standard play :P All mine got were "This is trash" and "well...edh...?"

September 3, 2014 1:29 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #12

@IATEAREPUBLICAN I was more referring to the rumor that they might be full art. I love Temur :)

September 3, 2014 1:35 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #13

yea... the less said about Karametra, God of Harvests the better.

September 3, 2014 1:37 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #14

I feel like Surrak Dragonclaw (Temur's khan) will be a 7 drop because of the 3,4,5,6 pattern. Also, he will have power >=4 as he will need to be able to trigger ferocity for his army. Lastly, his ability will need to go along with the ideas of Temur. Not only that, but help accelerate the process much like the other khans when he attacks. I feel like he will have an ability similar to ulting Domri Rade and super buff your field because yanking out more creatures (power 4+)seems busted and that's the only other thing I can think of to go with midrange fatties and the power 4+ theme

September 3, 2014 1:51 p.m.

Spootyone says... #15

I would agree that he needs to help out with ferocious. The only way I can see him doing that at any mana cost is to either BE a creature with P of 4 or greater, or MAKE a creature with P of 4 or greater. If he's expensive (like 7-mana expensive), I honestly think his only reasonable thing to do would be to actually make creatures. Him being a 4/x is far from needing to be so expensive unless he is a 4/x that does something crazy, as you've said here, weisemanjohn

September 3, 2014 1:55 p.m.

Maybe he makes the 4/4 Bear token?

September 3, 2014 2:38 p.m.

Spootyone says... #17

Doesn't that just defy the laws of magic though? :P Maybe he makes a 4/4 "Bears" token instead hahaha

September 3, 2014 2:40 p.m.

capriom85 says... #18

I'm hoping he is 5 and under on the cmc. Also, it'd be nice if he was playable. I can see him doing something similar to a Domri Rade type ability. Tutor for fatties, or something of the sort. Maybe even buff your board with something scary. Maybe a static" whenever ferocious is triggered do this...

September 3, 2014 2:45 p.m.

Spootyone says... #19

Maybe a free fight ability as his own ferocious?

September 3, 2014 2:50 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #20

Think he will be a free fight even though the intro deck promo avalanche tusker has a force block ability? (BTW, that elephant sucks as a cmc 5...)

September 3, 2014 3:17 p.m.

Spootyone says... #21

Perhaps not. Maybe He'll be like...a 3-4 drop 3/3 with something like:

Whenever a creature with Power 4 or greater enters the battlefield under your control, you may have target creature you control fight another target creature.

Or maybe Whenever ~ you may pay ? Or just ? I'm trying to think of a way this is decent and fits but isn't OP.

September 3, 2014 3:22 p.m.

aFriendlyAlly says... #22

Ofc a 4/4 bear has to be a 1G1G cost.

September 3, 2014 3:37 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #23

Well, none of the other commanders have an activated ability or one that has an additional cost, they have all been attack triggers. On top of that, since each khan has encouraged their mechanic to trigger, so should Surrak dragonclaw's. The trigger for ferocious is power 4+ and to attack. Surrak needs power 4+ no matter what prior to attacking to have the first part of the trigger. Second, his ability needs to happen/be active before declaring attack in order to encourage the player to attack with their creatures. With these in mind, it could be a when you enter your combat phase trigger like Xenagos, God of Revels . Lastly, with the clan ideas of surviving in the wilderness with savagery he should be an aggressive oriented ability once again encouraging swinging with your creatures. I have difficulty seeing a token generator or force fight being the ability in this case.

September 3, 2014 3:50 p.m.

The_Raven says... #24

Omg.... He will be 7 CMC.... Sorry to say....

However, he will be very powerful! (I think....)

He will be a 4/4. With haste.

Then he might be something with ramp? Like Primeval Titan ?

And he will be something with.... Look at the top cards, put some onto the battlefield.... I guess....

September 3, 2014 3:53 p.m.

aFriendlyAlly says... #25

I think it would be better for it to be 7 mana than 2 mana. Because its hard to balance a complex card that costs 2 mana. Adding cool effects while keeping it fair seems hard. Just look at tibalt :P.

September 3, 2014 4:04 p.m.

Spootyone says... #26

Is it weird that I'd rather him be the next Tibalt before he's the next Karametra?

September 3, 2014 5:16 p.m.

The_Raven says... #27

Yes Spootyone, I think it is.... Tibalt is just plain bad, Karametra is just "not good enough" :D

September 3, 2014 5:23 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #28

This guy has got to be BA, he wears a BEAR to keep his shoulders warm... On top of that, his clan would be most related to animals. He is the alpha male. Temur is screwed if both their promo and their legendary suck... All the other clans have shown powerful cards that progress the deck strategy. I want to see Surrak be THE khan to drop on the table.

September 3, 2014 5:27 p.m.

Spootyone says... #29

I feel like Tibalt was a problem with Wizards not knowing quite how to make a cheap planeswalker due to inexperience with the matter. Karametra was never designed to be played in standard and was immediately shipped off to the "it's an EDH card" department.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Karametra EDH deck. But I'd rather have something mediocre and standard-playable than straight up "oh they made this for another format" again.

September 3, 2014 5:41 p.m.

@trentfaris242 they might be full art?! I didn't hear about that! That's awesome!

But honestly I think he will be a 7 drop, but also, he IS green, which has lots of ramp. Just throw in Sylvan Caryatids and Coursers of Kruphix (which you should anyways, considering its three colors). Elvish Mystic maybe even. So even if he is 7 CMC, he might still be pretty overwhelming and I hope he is. Hopefully he will by the worth the wait. But much like APPLE01DOJ, I too was very excited for a B/G god. Wasn't worth it.

September 3, 2014 9:37 p.m.

My friend was crazy about Tibalt also... And I couldn't figure out why the hell he was... But weisemanjohn makes a good point. He needs to be great or otherwise, Temur will be pretty much unplayable unless they bring in some really hardcore stuff in the next sets for Khans.

September 3, 2014 9:41 p.m.

jchudz says... #32

I could see him being a 4 power 5 drop with trample and some kind of attack trigger. Like "whenever surrak dragonclaw attacks, reveal the top 4 cards of your library, you may put any creatures revealed this way into your hand and the rest to the bottom of your library"

September 4, 2014 9:50 a.m.

Yeah like something similar to Narset of the sort.

September 4, 2014 10:29 a.m.

TexasDice says... #34

I'm so tense ever since the first Khan got spoiled.

I want to punch 2/2s so badly, I can't express it in words.

September 4, 2014 10:30 a.m.

weisemanjohn says... #35

Again, nice effect, but doesn't encourage a ferocious trigger...

Zurgo must attack each turn: raid will be able to activate each turn

Narset let's you cast non creatures off the top of your deck: prowess triggers

Sidisi mills the top of your deck: delve fodder

Anafenza gives +1/+1 counters to tapped creatures: basically a free outlast trigger

Surrak needs to make you attack or highly encourage you to attack (double strike, trample, etc) with all or most of your creatures to trigger ferocious

September 4, 2014 10:34 a.m.

TexasDice says... #36

Maybe he has to be blocked by every creature your opponent controls? Combine that with either a big profile (X/7) or a Fog Bank type of ability.

September 4, 2014 10:36 a.m.

That would be freaking nuts if that was the case.

September 4, 2014 10:40 a.m.

weisemanjohn says... #38

So another Tromokratis ? Is what you are thinking?

September 4, 2014 10:41 a.m.

jchudz says... #39

Not all ferocious creatures are necessarily going to only have attack abilities. So far 2 of the three spoiled fercious spells have been sorceries that gain additional effects. Perhaps He could just have a passive anthem effect to make all of your creatures with ferocious abilities have 4 power to be able to trigger themselves.

September 4, 2014 noon

weisemanjohn says... #40

@jchudz

Spells can't attack so it makes since that they omit the attack clause. I suppose we would need to see more ferocious creatures to make a determination on that one. Otherwise, him being on the field with power 4+ would suffice as when he leaves the field, the creatures that became power 4 would no longer be so.

September 4, 2014 12:30 p.m.

Korombos says... #41

Wild guess to throw in with the rest of the speculation:He's a 4/4 for 4, can't be countered, and has firebreathing...

September 4, 2014 12:37 p.m.

Maybe his effect would have something to do with making your opponent have to think twice about killing your 4-power plus guys. Like "whenever a creature you control with power 4 or greater dies, draw a card" or "another creature gets +X/+X" although the second doesn't seem too consistent.

September 4, 2014 12:48 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #43

A Death's Presence would be interesting as an ability as you could start buffing your other creatures that survive to sustain the ferocity trigger.

TheRedDude says... #44

R&D employee: so, when are you gonna release that Temur clan leader even us R&Ds haven't heard about?

Other Employee: Oh no, people are asking questions!!!

Temur Design Team: We've got it narrowed dow to a vanilla 5/5 for 1RUG, an effective Intet, the Dreamer reprint, or All Bears get -2/-2.

MTG Fan: I once played RUG...

rho.reduction says... #47

Wasn't there a 4/4 bear token reveal around PAX time? or am I just remembering a mock up or something? (Seriously, I can't remember...)

If there was I'm calling it now, he makes 4/4 bears. Surrak Dragonclaw, bear tamer.

September 5, 2014 1:58 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #48

he doesn't tame bears; he punches them

September 5, 2014 5:48 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #49

TheRedDude you're telling me punching bears in the jaw isn't the best way to train them?

September 5, 2014 6 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #50

his punches are strong enough to KILL a bear in half.
