He triggers when you cast a spell only targeting him, so... Am I missing something?
May 27, 2016 3:10 p.m.
Inky only triggers when you cast a spell... so you only get 1 Spitting Image copying each creature.
Next turn, if you retrace, you get 1 Spitting Image copying each creature again.
Works the same if you have 1 out or 100. - Each cast of Spitting Image doubles the number of creatures you have.

No worries, but I now realize that if the nephilim aren't made legal as commanders, it will be a sad day, because their abilities are really awesome!

Really the two that stand head and shoulders above the rest are Ink Treader and Yore tiller.
Ink Treader is pretty subtle how good he can be. I mean just the obvious Act of Treason targeting Ink-Treader Nephilim to Insurrection is fine but then you start to remember that there are cards like Crimson Wisps and others. Draw cards = to the number of dudes on the battlefield? Sure! Clone effects? Yikes, even Twinflame is nutso. Supplant Form is easily the most breakable card in the deck which is weird.
YT is just so....... It's like Kaalia except it gives no fucks about creature types and from the grave. He would be the most broken thing ever if he had G too for avenger + craterhoof but even without that, there are plenty of amazing targets in the remaining colors. (Ashen Rider/Iona, Shield of Emeria/Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite to name some off the top of my head.)
May 27, 2016 5:50 p.m.
Ink-Treader is cerainly the best. Yore-Tiller is definitely next best but I really don't think that card is that good. It's pretty great but can be dealt with in a variety of ways.
Glint Eye is probably better than Dune Brood and Witch Maw is almost certainly the worst.
These are just my opinions and I havent really factored in colour, just the abilities.

YT is basically a Kaalia deck without the tribal parts. Kaalia gets a lot of hate but she's also very strong often coming down T3 with haste in many cases. YT does take a bit of setting up but Faithless Looting, Entomb, and Buried Alive all make that relatively easy. In many cases he could come down on T3 a bit less often than Kaalia does and likely without haste.
However, as opposed to Kaalia who's game gets weaker as you go on due to topdecking, YT can just keep returning stuff as opponents find a way to deal with them.

Whatever we get I hope WotC is able to:
A - Make them as unique as Zedruu the Greathearted in that they use mostly undeveloped gameplay space but take advantage of lots of older cards without having direct synergy. (Think of all the things you can give away that effect everyone equally, yet you still come out ahead with extra cards each turn for each one you give away.)
B - Avoid over costing any of the combat oriented rulers.
I don't really have any idea what they'll do but I'm optimistic. I expect we'll see Mulldrifter in a deck. As much as I hate reprints of overly-abundant cards he's always welcome in a precon. Great card for newbies.

I think we will have something like Deathrite Shaman, maybe with 2cmc in two colours and two different abilities with the last colours
May 30, 2016 11:33 a.m.
Heh heh if they gave us 1x 4 color, then 1x ally, then 1x enemy commanders in each deck that would be pretty slick although personally I would hope there were at least 2x four-color generals per box.
May 30, 2016 7:27 p.m.
MagicalHacker says... #15
Wait, it's not 4 4c commanders per box? I thought we would be getting at least 15 new commanders as always, and all of those would be 4C.
May 31, 2016 11:40 a.m.
Ohthenoises says... #16
They stated 4 legendary commanders per deck.
That probably means 1 4c, 2 guild colors with the opposing guild for an activated ability, and 1 tri color with the missing color as an ability.
May 31, 2016 noon
I was hoping for something like 4 single colour cmdrs in each deck. Each will have the other 3 colours for abilities in any variation (single, double or triple colour activated anbilities).

MagicalHacker says... #18
I think colorless creatures with all four colors in the text would be neat! For nongreen, an artifact commander would be totally awesome. On a less serious note, we could also have the first 0-drop commander xD (wait, does Oloro, Ageless Ascetic count?)
May 31, 2016 4:52 p.m.
Ohthenoises says... #19
What would be funny is s creature formatted like Living End with "suspend" from the command zone (similar to Derevi) but has no cmc
May 31, 2016 5 p.m.
Yore-Tiller is much easier to compare to Alesha, Who Smiles at Death than Kaalia of the Vast. Their abilities are identical, save Yore-tiller has a more restrictive cost and a less restrictive ability.

I wonder how their mana cost will look. Will we get or will it be ?

Nephilim are cool, and I like the art and unique abilities, but I'd like to see commanders that specifically embody opposing the one color not in their identity.
June 3, 2016 11:48 p.m.
Jimmy something like this?
- Mix of Vexing Shusher and self-recursion? Something like "Can't be countered" and "At the beginning of your upkeep if this card is in your graveyard you may ___ to put it onto the battlefield"
- Backwards Ghostly PrisonPropaganda like "Whenver this creature attacks creatures you control can't be blocked unless an opponent pays for each creature card in a graveyard." Makes it really hard for reanimation based strategies to block, functions when attacking so very feeling and makes them pay extra very feeling.
- All red really does is direct damage and goblin aggro along with chaos so some kind of controlled group mechanic is in order. "At the beginning of your upkeep each player votes for a card in your graveyard. You may either return that card to your hand or exile that card to put that many +1/+1 counters on each creature you control." Works well with GW (Selesnya) tokens and leverages and spells so the opponent has to choose between giving your whole team +1/+1 (Ponder) or giving you a board wipe back (Wrath of God).

@Guftders we got the same idea bro... Except my deck is trying to be a rally the ancestors list.

Jimmy_Chinchila, I believe that each general having protection from the color that is not in their color identity is a good way to show that form of opposition (not the only way, of course, but a great way, nevertheless); since WotC has not been using protection as frequently, recently, I believe this would be a great place to use it, again.

Jimmy_Chinchila says... #28
kengiczar yeah that would be cool I think. Like the one has "you have hexproof" to shut down red burning to the face.
DemonDragonJ yeah that would certainly be the most uniform way to do it, I wonder if they'll go that route or the more complex way of opposing a certain colors core (the non-blue one shuts down countermagic or instant speed spells) like kengiczar was talking about. I hope they do focus each commander on the one color not in their identity though

Ink-treader nephilim! My current build uses oracle of mul daya, courser of kruphix, melek, lurking predators, dismiss into the dream, and a bunch of buff spells. Play dismiss into the dream, use melek to play buff spells off my library taget ink-treader so thr buff hits everyone once it hits my opponents they all die.

I hope I get a WBRG Command for my Legacy Nicfit. That'd be awesome.
June 9, 2016 4:45 a.m.
Ink-Treader is just a harder to use Zada, really. Because your opponents can wipe your board with a single piece of removal.
June 11, 2016 2:53 a.m.
BRWG should be very aggro + reanimator theme. Sort of like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death on attack trigger without paying mana, while having an Overwhelming Stampede payable ability. That is my dream.
June 11, 2016 3:41 a.m.
Hope so, im building a kaalia atm so this 4 color might have a vcouple nice cards

If we're talking archetypes, WUBR is literally the most controlling color combination ever conceived, UBRG likes big creatures and getting them out for free or for cheap (Braids, Conjurer Adept, Chainer, Dementia Master, Feldon of the Third Path, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, etc.), BRGW is all the tokens now and forever, RGWU is voltron-y and going tall, and GWUB is literally as tutor-for-my-infinite-combo.dec as they can possibly get.
TL;DR
WUBR: Control
UBRG: Show and Tell/Reanimate/Sneak Attack/Lurking Predators
BRGW: Tokens
RGWU: Voltron
GUBR: Combo

mande you're right, that'd be awesome! WE could finally play ALL the dragons + Sarkhan would finally be good.
June 16, 2016 7:15 a.m.
EpicFreddi and mande but you could just use Scion of the Ur-Dragon?? O.o
And isn't GRBW better for dragons (ie access to Dragonlord Dromoka is better than access to Silumgar, the Drifting Death)?
June 16, 2016 7:25 a.m.
K34 I know but how they phrased it as "we could finally run ALL the dragons" confused me as Scion exists :P
June 16, 2016 7:35 a.m.
EpicFreddi says... #41
I'll admit that "all the dragons" was a little bit confusing. :D
June 16, 2016 8:22 a.m.
[Guftders] yeah but a blue Jund would be very flavorful. Plus, I am not a huge fan of Scion, since it's a tutor-on-a-stick, which aren't very fun in commander.

How many famous competitive decks were/are four colors in modern, legacy, or even standard? It may be an indicator of what they see the four colors represented by.
Ohthenoises says... #1
MagicalHacker, Part of most ink treader decks are clone effects like Spitting Image. If he is a legend you can only have one ink treader so you will only get one copy per creature. As it is that's usually broken enough.
Now imagine that you have 2 ink treaders in play? You get 2 Spitting Image copying each creature in play. Next turn you get 4 per Spitting Image.
