Infect Atraxa preliminary list. Note: you only have to hit ONCE with an infect creature: from there it is a matter of surviving. Realistically if you get any form of infect + atraxa by turn 4: you are going to win either by infect voltron, infect overwhelm, or infect attrition. I just need to make the landbase work...

You're hyping up EDH infect a little too much.

The sad truth about infect is that it makes everyone hate you out in casual and that it's too slow in competitive.

Someone pointed out how weird it was to have blue thopters. That's just a theme on esper- colored artifacts- and the tokens were present in the Alara block itself.

Eh. It's alright.

miracleHat, as far as the Atraxa deck being high priority for the three legends- it won't have either the orzhov or the simic commanders in it. She gets an ally colored partner in azorius and an enemy pair in golgari.

Anyone else just really happy to see Vial Smasher in the line-up?

October 26, 2016 7:51 a.m.

I definitely am, Vial Smasher is just as awesome as her alternate self Ankle Shanker!

BS-T says... #8

Fair enough on the blue thopers, I wasn't playing through those sets so bit unusual to me, used to them just being colourless artifacts!

I wanted to weigh in on the naming debate too, I have been living with 'non-X' but have seen the emergence of Ubzan and Resper which I quite like, just need 3 more... Not sure how Ubzan really sits with Sultai fans though, maybe Wultai instead? Needs to be consistent through all 5 though.

Akri + Silas = match made in heaven.

Then again, so is Sidar Kondo + most of the partners.

I need to be playing a BUXX deck with Echo Mage in play and level 4, and cast Cruel Entertainment copying it twice, target a different pair of my opponents for each spell...

Sit back and watch the fun unfold...

October 26, 2016 8:48 a.m.

Chandrian says... #11

For the 4-colour names we could just take the first part of the names of the Nephilim:

1) Yore for

2) Glint for

3) Dune for

4) Ink for

5) Witch for

October 26, 2016 8:53 a.m.

RazortoothMtg says... #12

And then Reverberate that, Fork it, Wild Ricochet then respond by playing Twincast. Then use Rings of Brighthearth to copy echo mages ability. Then get all of this under an Eye of the Storm. You might just win by confused conceding.

October 26, 2016 8:56 a.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #13

So there are creatures called witch, dune and ink? Yore is the only one that sort of works

October 26, 2016 8:56 a.m.

Just use all the cards in Copies of copies, near infinite controlled turns.

October 26, 2016 9:06 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #15

I think that what inevitably happens is that the newest copies of Cruel Entertainment override the older ones. Not really much confusion there, sadly. You really need to copy it on different turns.

As for the names for these color combinations, just call them "nonblue", "nonblack", etc. Takes a second to think about, but, unlike the names of the nephilim, it's intuitive and easy to remember.

October 26, 2016 9:16 a.m.

Atony1400 says... #17

Chandrian, but we already have 3 of the 5 4-zolor legendaries?

Tortuous_TG18 says... #18

Finally! A decent U/R artifact commander! And to add B/W to boot! I guess I'm buying all of that W/U/R/B deck stuffs!

Also, Atraxa, Praetor's Voice

And LUDEVIC...is...ok...

Snake_Oil says... #20

Ludevic

Wow! It's fucking nothing.

Really disappointed by him solo, but with Vial Smasher...?

October 26, 2016 10:49 a.m.

Snake_Oil says... #21

Kynaios and Tiro? I love the stats, but it feels like it gives you too little for what you give other players, even for Group Hug...

October 26, 2016 10:51 a.m.

Chandrian says... #22

Kynaio and Tyro of Meletis

I really don't know what to think about these as commanders... I've never played grouphug before. They don't feel strong though (except like other people noticed in buttfights with Assault Formation)

October 26, 2016 10:55 a.m.

Sloanan says... #23

Yeah, I'm more than a little let down by Ludevic. I mean I get the colors (I think black should've been there, BUT he is more of a stitcher than a necromancer, like Geralf), but that ability just doesn't really flow for me. There's like nothing that involves zombies or stitching or anything cool that we know about his character. Don't get me wrong, I like that ability (like a less broken and color-shifted version of Edric, Spymaster of Trest), but I don't think it's flavorful with the character. Ah well. Still excited for the rest of the set!

October 26, 2016 10:55 a.m.

Snake_Oil says... #24

I think Ludevic might have been better with "At the beginning of each player's end step, create a 2/2 black zombie token for each player that lost life this turn"

Costed a little higher, obviously.

October 26, 2016 10:58 a.m.

Well I guess Ludevic is more of a mad scientist than a necromancer/stitcher so I can see why there is no zombie element, but he does seem a tad underpowered. On the other hand...how about that flavor win in the fact that neither of the Geralf cards, who has always wanted to work with Ludevic but never was quite able to, can't partner with Ludevic.

And if I understand Kynaios and Tiro correctly, does that mean if no one puts a land into play, everyone draws at the end of your turn? Or does someone have to put a land into play for the trigger?

October 26, 2016 11:16 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #26

My biggest problem with Ludevic (see Sygg, River Cutthroat for a similar existing card) is that he's happy to reward your opponent even if you lose life provided an opponent also has. Still, he'll be hated out less by those who fear Edric.

And the others aren't exciting. There's a new murder.

Snake_Oil says... #28

Ishai seems fun -- Gaining a body from spells you don't control is nice, but I'm not sure what kind it build it could helm...

Ravos looks kinda generic art-wise, but getting a creature back from your graveyard on top of an anthem is nothing to sniff at.

October 26, 2016 11:35 a.m.

Awesome. Ishai is a natural compliment to Reyha if you want to keep the 4-color thing going with counters. Reya pumps and keeps counters on Ishai who can swing for a commander damage win.

But I also like the idea of just running Abzan counters with Reyha and Ravos too, bringing back a good utility creature every turn, it dies or is sacked and counters keep multiplying....

I also really just like Atraxa...

OMG I HATE CHOICES... not really but this is getting tough

DarkLaw IKR SAVE US

October 26, 2016 11:41 a.m.

Im kind of impressed at the lengths Wizards is going to reduce the "over sexualization of women" on their cards.

At this point we have one female commander with a midriff pictured and another with minor cleavage. Otherwise we have very powerful looking women. Which is awesome honestly, Saskia is a house.

But on the male side we have a seemingly Homosexual commander with Tiro running his hands through Kynaios hair (unless im seeing it wrong) and two very shirtless dudes. Not that either is depicted as "sexy" by any means but still.

Its just a very noticeable change from the way things used to be.

October 26, 2016 11:42 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #33

Okay, I'm pretty sure we have just two more cards with partner to go. The U/G rare, and the B/G mythic.

October 26, 2016 11:45 a.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #34

LittleBlueHero, So I wasn't the only one who noticed...

Anyway, I like this new direction and I encourage wizards to keep on this path.

October 26, 2016 11:45 a.m.

HOPMONSTER says... #35

Cawwww Shit! Might have a new Bird commander for my deck 300 Tons of Bird Shit. At least part of the 99.

Atraxa fits with so many EDH decks I have going already. Tribal WU Birds with proliferate (could now add black and green birds), GB infect, GW Dragons w Bolster/Outlast, GU Simic Evolve. Might have to go with her...

October 26, 2016 11:45 a.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #36

DarkLaw That is correct, in my understanding.

October 26, 2016 11:46 a.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #37

HOPMONSTER, You might want to preorder soon, the decks are going up FAST, and especially the Atraxa deck because she's TWENTY DOLLARS. (USD)

Anyway, I'm exited that Atraxa has all of the colors with +1/+1 counter synergy. Simic, Abzan, Dromoka, Bant... Screw infect. Tutor package and Melira, Sylvok Outcast FTW.

October 26, 2016 11:48 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #38

Ha, these decks are simply in too much supply to maintain a price above MSRP.

October 26, 2016 11:52 a.m.

Snake_Oil says... #39

So MythicSpoiler just added placeholder art for the unrevealed commanders/legendaries...

The G/U rare looks to be a Merfolk of some kind, so I'm expecting evasion of some kind...

The G/B though? She looks VERY familiar... Or maybe all Naga look the same...

October 26, 2016 noon

So Ishai seems bad in just about anything other than Voltron or i guess a deck that moves +1/+1 counters around. I'd still rather run Kangee in bird tribal. Ravos seems cool and powerful.

LittleBlueHero - Kynaios and Tiro are indeed homosexual. They are the lovers being referred to in the Guardians of Meletis flavor text (and you can see the Guardians being built in the background of Kynaios and Tiro).

Skulloelegy Wait, did you say snake racist? They're NAGA! Omfg stop being so racist! I am offended.

Wizards is continuing the trend of making us Alara fans wait.

The Faerie Artisans looks fun for Breya, Etherium Shaper. Free artifacts every time an opponent plays a creature. Just remember to sac the previous artifact in response to the new creature so you get more value out of it before the artisans exile it.
