Gleeock - yeah Baeloth seems just goofy. I think it's best pairings are with Agent of the Shadow Thieves or Criminal Past. Raised by Giants is a huge power boost, but to set it all up costs 10 mana which is a bit expensive.
So I just read Burakos, Party Leader. Since they count as four party types, they automatically dome the defending player for 4 damage and make 4 treasures correct? Seems pretty good when paired with Sword Coast Sailor.

Each creature can only be counted once as a member of your Party. Burakos and Tajuru Paragon can fill any slot, but they still only count as one creature in the party.

SpammyV - ah thanks, I wasn't sure if that was the case or not.

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor Those would be good. I also think Noble Heritage would be fun to make voltron commander with an aggressive tempo & it would be interesting to boost opponent's creatures as well... even though you'd have to play the tempo wisely otherwise it might be difficult to catch up if you boosted opponent's creatures too early. It would certainly be a fun & aggressive take on Voltron though, & I'm not sure it would be all that hard to match up power if you are playing Voltron. I'm tempted myself due to all the aggressive engines you can have like: Sram, Senior Edificer, Wyleth, Soul of Steel, Akiri, Fearless Voyager & many others

Gleeock: that might actually be the best pairing come to think of it. With Baeloth growing in size every turn, he is sure to keep the smaller creatures attacking elsewhere and the one "big" creature that may outsize Baeloth, you have protection from (assuming they choose to grow a creature). Plus the additional protection means they can't kill Baeloth. It feels like Baeloth+Noble Heritage kind of takes out two issues with the voltron strategy in one go. That could be a very interesting build.

This set definitely has some excellent cards, but it does not have nearly enough reprints for my liking.
Also, why does the red orb of dragonkind say "if you spend" while the other two orbs say "when you spend?" Does the wording make a difference in how the abilities function?

Flavor-wise, I feel like they should have released this next year, after BG3. Like, Cultist of the Absolute isn't too resonant for those who've ignored the early access

I have been realizing that Ring of Three Wishes is useful only in the proper decks, but it still would have been nice for that card to have been reprinted in this set, since the ring was a Dungeons & Dragons item long before it was a card in Magic: the Gathering.

Agree, definitely. They should have Ring of Three Wishes in there, it's a classic : )
I wonder how good the ring would be in an untapping type deck. Things like Seedborn Muse and Unwinding Clock I mean, with seedborn untapping the ring and your mana, it always becomes the exact three cards you need when it comes back to your turn, and that's really good. I feel like Ring of Three Wishes might be more for getting the perfect interaction at the right time rather than comboing out.

To be fair, they probably were referencing Shaharazad's '1001 Nights' with Ring of Three Wishes instead of DnD, who, in turn had the inspiration for that item from 1001 Nights.

AFAIK e.g. the character of Renari, Merchant of Marvels isn't even in the Early Access version of BGIII, and I can't seem to find them anywhere else either. Feels weird to make an UB set where some of the references are impossible to understand.

I don't remember Renari from any of the older games either. Not sure on that one.

Okay one more complaint about the release timing: there's at least one card in the set that's a pretty big spoiler for BGIII regarding something that's yet to be released even now in the Early Access.

I did get a draft of Baldur's Gate in. Since my store has a plethora of prerelease packs they kept using those, so I just drafted around my promo, Gorion, Wise Mentor. In hindsight I should not have passed so many Pegasus Guardianes and leaned into the blink theme, but somehow I came second in my pod. Mostly thanks to Basilisk Collar's lifegain. Ultimately I lost the damage race at the end because of the Trap! room. If nothing else, watching one opponent draw seventeen cards off an Ancient Silver Dragon only to die as someone else plays and kills their own Balor was worth the price of the draft.

Viconia, Drow Apostate looks like a cat-person and it's weird. Maybe it's supposed to be a reference to her goofy BG1 portrait?

Backgrounds, especially the cheaper ones, makes the bonuses from e.g. Fierce Guardianship or Jeska's Will quite reliable since Enchantments are less likely to get randomly removed

For izzet Dragon tribal, I feel like Lozhan, Dragons' Legacy immediately got its thunder stolen by Ganax, Astral Hunter + Feywild Visitor, which is kinda sad

Every day I mourn that Dragon's Rage Channeler doesn't actually turn into a Dragon at Delirium for the purpose of Firkraag, Cunning Instigator

Baeloth seems like a really wacky thing. Goadtron could be really fun + Goadtron will be better protected against swing-wide than most goad or voltron decks
