I'm quite hype for C14. The planeswalkers so far look sweet, Feldon has all my deck-building jimmies in a bundle, and we've got some sweet cards. I might get the set like I did for C13. Not sure which one to get first though....

I was already happy to see Gisa and Geralf, but everything so far looks like I'll have some fun things to play around with. The wife's definitely amped for Freyalise though.

FatherLiir says... #5

From what I've seen, everyone is happy about the older characters getting actualy cards ala Freyliase and Feldon. When I look at some of the other cards, Bitter Feud I love for my playgroup, Dualcaster Mage is amazing, and personally I am loving the Reef Wormception text.

"Warmonger Hellkite"

Creature - Dragon (Rare)

Flying

Without the new paragraphs, obviously.

JWiley129 says... #9

the Dragon is kindof meh, if his activated ability was "all attacking creatures get +1/+0" then we can talk. Also the Offerings are cool and flavorful, but idk if they're good enough.

October 27, 2014 8:02 p.m.

JA14732 says... #10

Benevolent Offering is horrible, but Infernal Offering can be amazing in the right situation.

October 27, 2014 8:27 p.m.

FatherLiir says... #11

Benevolent Offering could be decent in a mono white token deck; fuel for Spirit Bonds , Honor of the Pure Etc.

October 27, 2014 8:47 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #12

Benevolent Offering isn't "bad", but it isn't what I want to be doing in a based Token deck.

October 27, 2014 8:51 p.m.

Fantazmo says... #13

I believe the Dragon was mistranslated, it is "all attacking creatures get +1/+0"

October 27, 2014 9:18 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #14

Calling it now that the red one will be Jaya Ballard, Task Mage but I'm clueless as to who the white one will be. Thoughts?

October 27, 2014 9:54 p.m.

Fantazmo says... #15

I'm hoping to get Serra as the white planeswalker but that's just me.

October 27, 2014 10 p.m.

erabel says... #16

The feature article said that the five Planeswalkers included 3 old characters (Teferi, Freyalise, and Ob Nixilis), one character we know, but probably not by name (I have a guess that it's the Lithomancer?) and one character we don't know, but from an established plane. So, since we've seen the three CommandWalkers we know, Serra and Jaya are kind of SOL.

October 27, 2014 10:03 p.m.

Neither of those will be the walkers, unfortunately. In a recent article by WotC (I can't remember which one, go do your own dang research), it was stated that three of the walkers would be characters that were well known, one would be a well known walker that had never been directly named, and the last would be a brand new one from a brand new plane. I'm taking the safe bet and saying the red one will be brand new and the white one will be Nahiri, the Lithomancer.

October 27, 2014 10:05 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

I agree with the above that Nahiri, the Lithomancer, is going to be the Mono- planeswalker. And I'm going to guess that the brand new one (which will be ) is from Theros. That's just my guess, and I have no confirmation, but that's just the feeling I get.

October 27, 2014 10:16 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #19

Well bummer. No jaya. Oh well.

I didn't follow lore very closely in the early days of my magic playing but i also took a long hiatus from magic for about a year or so and missed the entire alara block so the lithomancer isn't someone ive heard of. Will definitely google that at some point. Thanks

October 27, 2014 10:28 p.m.

erabel says... #20

Bellock86: The Lithomancer was one of the three planeswalkers that sealed the Eldrazi on Zendikar, along with Ugin, the Spirit Dragon (about whom we're finding out more during Khans block) and Sorin Markov (who you've probably heard of by now). We recently learned through an article on the Mothership that she was a Kor named Nahiri from Zendikar.

Good news/bad news guys. The entire deck appears to have been spoiled on 4chan. Picture links on MTG Salvation here.

Notable Reprints:

Jet Medallion , Grave Titan , Profane Command , Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief , Abyssal Persecutor , Skeletal Scrying , Lashwrithe , and others.

October 27, 2014 10:53 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #22

erabel ~ thanks for the reference. I had heard about Ugin before and sorin of course (he's actually my favorite walker overall) but do we know anything about what Nahiri can do? I mean obviously being a walker and all but what was her shtick?

October 27, 2014 10:56 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #23

Bellock86 - She's a Lithomancer, aka someone who uses Stone magic. Think Koth of the Hammer but less fire & lava and more limestone & basalt. It's assumed that she made the Hedrons on Zendikar.

October 27, 2014 10:59 p.m.

jr92_2000 says... #24

So, still no Damnation , eh?

October 27, 2014 11:03 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #25

8 more spoilers have been revealed! Looks like they might be showing us the black deck first.

October 27, 2014 11:03 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #26

CastleSiege - Go see my earlier comment. Someone leaked the Black deck on 4chan. This was NOT an intentional reveal.

October 27, 2014 11:04 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #27

Oh, and we have names for all 5 decks.

- Forged in Stone

- Peer Through Time

- Sworn to Darkness

- Built from Scratch

- Guided by Nature

October 27, 2014 11:12 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #28

JWiley129 ~ oh okay cool. Thanks for clarifying.

The black deck looks sick. If they are all on that level of power I will be picking up at least one of each.

October 27, 2014 11:16 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #29

Ah, I just read your post JWiley129. Disapointed that there isn't at least one of the following cards:

Damnation

Phyrexian Arena

Necropotence

Cabal Coffers

Very happy to see these since I still need them for my Sheoldred deck though:

Magus of the Coffers

Disciple of Bolas

Mutilate

Lashwrithe

October 27, 2014 11:19 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #30

CastleSiege - I guess you could say we're ALL sad Damnation hasn't been reprinted. Necropotence is probably too good to print in ANY set, supplemental or not (discounting VMA), and would make the Black deck SUUUUPER overpowered.

October 27, 2014 11:23 p.m.

erabel says... #31

Well, the name "Forged in Stone" for the White precon all but cements the Lithomancer as the white CommandWalker.

October 27, 2014 11:28 p.m.

erabel says... #32

Also, the Commander's Sphere is a really nice rock. And Arcane Lighthouse? "Oh, your dudes don't have hexproof or shroud anymore. Good luck, Sigarda, Uril, and Zur. Really, really good luck."

TwistedMoonlight: I think you missed the whole second page of this thread, friend.

October 27, 2014 11:32 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #35

I'm with erabel here. Commander's Sphere is another EDH-exclusive card along the lines of Command Tower . I think that the "Draw a card" clause has to be tap, sac, but we'll see. Also the Arcane Lighthouse COULD become a staple at stopping all the bad-bad guys like you mentioned.

October 27, 2014 11:36 p.m.

erabel says... #36

JWiley129: Nope. Just "Sac: Draw a card." Check out the image gallery here.

October 27, 2014 11:37 p.m.

1 I think wizards got balls printing planeswalker commanders for a game they don't rule on, that isn't cool really. It's like saying wow this commander thing is really a thing and hay we make MTG so lets try and manage it now and make it our format and sanction it. Well that's how it seems. One week they are announcing sanctioning commander tournements the next week these planeswalker commanders. If anyone in my play group want to use PW generals then I be like sure meet mine Sorin Markov Tamiyo, the Moon Sage yes I know these abominations say can be your commander but so what the rules are clear and fair is fair.

2 I think Mono commander is a little blah, at least they could put some other walkers and good removal and decent creatures in them.

3# As #2 implies they need to quit printing these suck butt EDH decks and have a pro build a deccent one and foil it and release it for like 99.99 msrp like they did with graveborn. I mean they release vault sets with a 39.99 msrp with huge value why cant my idea happen with more quantity at 100.00 . Here is another idea randomly foil the whole deck 1 outta every 100 .

October 27, 2014 11:37 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #38

Arcane Lighthouse just became an auto include (sideboard at least if not main) in every EDH deck I own.

October 27, 2014 11:39 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #39

Wow, is the entire deck a bunch of rares? Haha

October 27, 2014 11:43 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #40

ColdHeartedSith ~ really?! Was the mega font really necessary. I disagree with everything you just typed. They OWN THE DAMN GAME. They could introduce purple mana if they damn well pleased. Quit acting like a petulent child and let the rest of us enjoy the spoilers please.

October 27, 2014 11:43 p.m.

erabel says... #41

Um. Can't tell if trolling or not. Also, the number sign on this site makes things big, so if you just want to list things, do "1-." without the dash, and so on.

As counterpoints, assuming you're not trolling, ColdHeartedSith:

  1. Um. What all is wrong with Wizards making cards and precons specifically for Commander? And more specifically, what is wrong with them making planeswalkers with the rules text "X can be your Commander" (with the EDH Rules Committee's permission and blessing, no less.)? They've also explicitly said that making these planeswalkers commanders does not errata the rest to be legal as Commanders. So no Markov or Tamiyo EDH for you.
  2. There are a ton of good creatures and removal in the black precon. Have you actually seen the list? If the rest of the decks are up to this snuff, they wouldn't win a tournament any time soon, but they're damn good for a beginner precon. Monocolor != bad or limited in scope.
  3. Again, these decks are really good for their price range. Also, why would they randomly foil out a random set of the decks? That would drive up prices and demand like crazy, which means fewer people buying their product, which means fewer people getting into Commander. Also, who in their right mind would want to buy a hundred-dollar precon?
October 27, 2014 11:45 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #42

I for one am thrilled that they are putting so much effort into making EDH decks with several staple cards in them thus possibly getting more people into it.

You are right that they release sealed stuff like FTV but with the exception of Annihilation l, when was the last time one of those was actually sold at MSRP? The commander decks go to regular retailers like Walmart and Target making them more accessible to everyone and not just the people who wanna shell out $160 for a FTV20.

October 27, 2014 11:48 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #43

Also, I just want to link the artifacts in the Black precon b/c they are quite sweet: Sol Ring , Charcoal Diamond , Jet Medallion , Mind Stone , Swiftfoot Boots , Commander's Sphere, Unstable Obelisk, Worn Powerstone , and Lashwrithe .

I think that Sol Ring , Commander's Sphere, Worn Powerstone , Swiftfoot Boots , the medallion, the diamond, and Mind Stone should be in each deck, but we'll see.

October 27, 2014 11:52 p.m.

I own my cards and commander is a player created with its own rules. That's like saying hey Bicycle makes the playing cards so they can change how poker works..duh make you play with an 11 of clubs and a Joker of wild uh..no everyone in the poker world would throw those out and say fuck you we aren't doing that. They don't own commander anymore than hoyle owns poker. The mega text was accidental don't know how to do it.

October 27, 2014 11:54 p.m.

SimicPower says... #45

That black deck looks sweet! It has a lot of the cards in my commander deck though. I guess me and WOTC build similar decks? Whatever. By the way, I think the giant font size was from the "#" symbol, it has some interesting effects on Tappedout.

October 27, 2014 11:54 p.m.

swkelly89 says... #46

i was worried about the red deck being weak since each color can do what red does , only better. but its looking like it could be really nice

October 27, 2014 11:59 p.m.

SimicPower says... #47

@ColdHeartedSith: I don't think it's that big of a deal. They only are printing 5 commander legal planeswalkers, and none of them spoiled so far seem super great as commanders anyway, and I doubt they will see a lot of play. I don't think it will greatly affect the format.

October 27, 2014 11:59 p.m.

erabel says... #48

ColdHeartedSith: The Bicycle and poker analogy kind of falls apart when you realize Wizards also owns and sets the rules to the game Magic, unlike Bicycle. The EDH Rules Committee says their format follows the rules of Magic, with some exceptions, which are laid out explicitly. The metaphor works better if you were saying the EDH Rules Committee were trying to set the rules of Khans-Khans-Khans draft or Modern or something, where they don't have direct say.

October 27, 2014 11:59 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #49

ColdHeartedSith - To be fair, Commander is a Magic: the Gathering format. Commander is run by an outside committee, but Magic is owned by Wizards. Wizards made a conscious decision to support Commander, and have been looking for ways to get people excited about the, now annual, Commander product. I am fine with the PW commanders, but ONLY those 5. I'm not accepting someone walking up and saying "my commander is Jace, the Mind Sculptor ." Also, Wizards doesn't really do anything with Commander w/o at least asking the rules committee first. Don't forget that one member of the RC works for R&D, so they have someone on-site they can ask.

As much as Magic players hate change, I don't think being a curmudgeon will get anything done.

October 28, 2014 12:01 a.m.

Well I will just answer 3..I would, if it were all foil with good cards and professional built. The rest is simply my opinion and isnt up for discussion. I didn't ask for your opinion on my opinion. Maybe you should read the top of the thread one more time dick.
