Let's talk JOU.

What cards impress you so far? What seems overhyped? Are there any cards you can't wait to get your hands on?

So far I hate the overwhelming focus on enchantment everything. Revoke Existence is going to be the best all around removal spell in standard if they keep this obsession up.

@ColdHeartedSith

That would actually be Deicide at this point.

April 17, 2014 1:56 a.m.

Dispacho says... #3

Me personally, I can't wait to get my hands on Banishing Light and Godsend . I think way to many people are gonna hop on that Bant or G/W.

Sage of Hours + Sunbond + Ajani, Mentor of Heroes = GG :P

April 17, 2014 9:13 a.m.

Rayenous says... #4

I think that Sage of Hours is a little over hyped. It's not going to be all that easy to combo off with.

There will certainly be a few FNM decks with it, as it's just fun... and a few of them will (once or twice) get their unlimited/ridiculous number of turns.

I just don't see it being a "real thing" in competitive play... still lots to be spoiled though, so we'll see.

In my humble opinion, I think the most ridiculous card in this set is Athreos, God of Passage. Either he is a souped up Blood Artist , or almost Tamiyo, the Moon Sage 's emblem.

Anything on my side dying makes for an uncomfortable position for my opponent, because either, for each creature, i get a free Lightning Bolt to their face, or their Murder turns into an Unsummon .

If they banned any card in standard, it'd be this guy, because he can make aggro near unbeatable.

raithe000 says... #6

@MagicalHacker tap two, Deicide.

eh

April 17, 2014 10:43 a.m.

kintighd says... #7

Will decide see play in modern as a sideboard option against twin decks?

April 17, 2014 10:46 a.m.

raithe000 says... #8

Does Erase see any play? Unless Gods become a much bigger thing in modern, I can't see them going for Deicide over Erase.

April 17, 2014 10:49 a.m.

MagicalHacker says... #9

Deicide is the only thing keeping it in check, but theres one thing you have to realize. If the god isn't online, Deicide is only a Revoke Existence because only creature cards and tribal cards can have creature types. So, if I can in response get rid of devotion (which can trigger his ability), i turned your Deicide into a revoke existence.

April 17, 2014 11:45 a.m.

Blakkhand says... #10

I don't think that's how it works MagicalHacker.

April 17, 2014 11:47 a.m.

raithe000 says... #11

@MagicalHacker That's incorrect. Deicide checks whether the enchantment is a God after the card has been exiled, and in exile all God cards are God cards, so it will still remove all copies from your graveyard, library, and hand, regardless of your devotion.

April 17, 2014 11:49 a.m.

Bellock86 says... #12

I have a feeling they designed Deicide for the exact scenario that MagicalHacker just described.

If they get deicide your god is gone period. To me that's a tad unfair. There were already cards that removed enchantments from the game which could work on the gods.

Now they print a "gods go bye bye" card. What's the point of printing the gods if you were just gonna print 7 ways to make them go away.

April 17, 2014 1:06 p.m.

thataddkid says... #13

Notice how it says god "Card". If the exiled CARD was a god CARD, then blah blah blah. Since they are always god CARDS, Deicide always rips them out of your library.

April 17, 2014 3:05 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #14

And one simple word changes it all...

So what standard cards do we have that can sacrifice enchantments?

April 17, 2014 3:55 p.m.

Rayenous says... #15

None that are useable at the moment... otherwise, I would have been using them with the Ordeal cycle for the sacrifice bonus.

Nothing like casting an Ordeal of Thassa , sac'ing it right away and getting 2 cards... if only. :(

April 17, 2014 4:33 p.m.

asasinater13 says... #16

If they're active we can use Sacrificing creatures though, Celestial Flare and Devour Flesh both work.

April 17, 2014 4:35 p.m.

Dritz says... #17

In regards to the active thing again Athreos, God of Passage gets Cartel Aristocrat to save it from the super-exile.

April 17, 2014 4:54 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #18

All the "sacrifice an enchantment:" and "sacrifice a permanent:" cards are non-standard only, which is surprising for an enchantment based set.

I'd assume they would have sac outlets for what theyre building around...

Oh well. It's not as infuriating as all the cycles that WotC have messed up... Sigh.

April 17, 2014 6 p.m.

As they were saying Dritz, it doesnt matter if the god is active. It only matters if he gets exiled with deicide. Granted, if athreos is active, you can sac it with aristocrat

April 17, 2014 7:07 p.m.

Dritz says... #20

@CommanderOfBolas

Hence the 'active thing again' bit. Anyway, yeah, considering the number of goodies in W/B humans it seems like Athreos, God of Passage will be active a fair amount of the time, and, as Cartel Aristocrat is the only manaless constructed playable creature sac outlet in those colors I figured it deserved a mention. If there is something else that is out and about that isn't just a one-shot effect I don't remember it.

April 17, 2014 7:15 p.m.

Varolz, the Scar-Striped wouldn't his sac ability work?

April 17, 2014 7:30 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #22

Yes, but that only works when the god is online. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to get around deicide with an offline god. :/

April 17, 2014 8:27 p.m.

Shane says... #23

How about countering it? lol

April 17, 2014 8:29 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #24

Well, other than that, lol.

April 17, 2014 9:44 p.m.

Is the full set is spoiled tonight?

April 17, 2014 10:13 p.m.

Flabbergasted says... #26

Remember you can always Deicide in response to their Deicide and fail to find your other gods ;)

April 17, 2014 10:27 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #27

Flabbergasted, that is the most genius thing i have ever heard.

April 17, 2014 10:48 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #28

Not a "may" so I'm 99% sure you can't do that.

April 17, 2014 10:55 p.m.

I Just want to say White is the only gods go bye-bye color. Not everyone is playing or splashing white and glare of heresy and revoke existence are both white as well. They really just are trying to give white devotion and aggro a push. White needs some more good stuff. Now Gods are just what they have always been a re-enforcement.

April 17, 2014 10:55 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #30

Ohthenoises anytime you search someone's library, because only you are looking and able to see the cards, you can say that you didn't find any cards at all. http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-rulings/magic-rulings-archives/282392-fail-to-find

April 17, 2014 11:16 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #31

There's the 1% although it seems really sketchy.

April 17, 2014 11:24 p.m.

R.I.P. Monsters

April 18, 2014 12:39 a.m.

-Bean- says... #34

Aww...now that the set is fully spoiled, I have to say I'm disappointed they didn't reprint Prophetic Bolt as the U/R card. I guess they don't want any library manipulation that isn't scry, but the flavor with Keranos went so well... I can only dream.

April 18, 2014 11:36 a.m.

tim_swaggers says... #35

The card does say "any number of card with the same name". So if you deceide your own God in response, the first one will do nothing since there is no "God card" exiled.

April 18, 2014 12:46 p.m.

tim_swaggers says... #36

And you pick 0 cards offcourse :-D

April 18, 2014 12:47 p.m.

Arvail says... #37

Well, now that the set's out I can say I'm only interested in a few cards but the set looks fun to draft if only a little too easy.

April 18, 2014 2:29 p.m.

hisaoawesome says... #38

I'm just going to say that I'm disappointed with the lack of green beasties in this set. I was hoping for a green mythic beasty because of the crap green got last set. Like at least a playable fatty like Mistcutter Hydra or Arbor Colossus but nope nada, two sets is a row now.

April 18, 2014 6:47 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #39

Nessian Game Warden is pretty great

Hydra Broodmaster is as playable as Arbor Colossus

Heroes' Bane could also be great!

April 18, 2014 6:51 p.m.

I am very happy with this set. especially after the crap that we call Born of the Gods. I am going to have a blast with Keranos, God of Storms !

April 18, 2014 6:53 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #41

I posted a quick examination of cards for limited here: Click

April 18, 2014 6:53 p.m.

KingSorin says... #42

Tethmos High Priest is a card that i'm really pumped to use. I think this could easily be a hit in constructed, but not in limited. I reckon this will be used in azorius tempo or something. With Launch the Fleet , Ajani's Presence and Gods Willing for protection and heroic, you can use Azorius Arrester , Soldier of the Pantheon , Judge's Familiar , maybe Banisher Priest Precinct Captain and this guy to attack at them quickly, and this guy makes all targeters into re-animation spells.

April 18, 2014 7:29 p.m.

I was actually a bit underwhelmed with some of the w/b cards. This is a very nice set, however it seems a bit more aimed towards limited. The rares in w/b are almost unplayable in my deck, since it is orzhov humans. If you want to see it here it is:

I have had some interest in Aegis of the Gods , Banishing Light , and I'm thinking about King Macar, the Gold-Cursed . Please respond!

April 18, 2014 8 p.m.

Banishing Light has a Oblivion Ring vibe to it...

viable in control decks?

April 18, 2014 8:04 p.m.

forestlore44 says... #45

Well, at the very least I think that this set has some of the most amazing artwork that there's been in a long while.

April 18, 2014 8:22 p.m.

Domonator777 says... #46

I'm happy for Gnarled Scarhide and Felhide Petrifier to certainly add to my Mini Muffin Minotaurs deck!

April 18, 2014 11:23 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #47

In regards to searching with Decide:

It says

" any number of cards "

Therefore that number could be zero.

April 19, 2014 7:24 a.m.

KingSorin says... #48

The card is Deicide , as in dei (god) cide (killing). I thought it was decide at first, and it's kinda confusing, but yeah, you can get none. (I don't know why you'd want to though)

April 19, 2014 8:35 a.m.

KingSorin says... #49

Never mind i just saw the post on the previous page.

I'm looking at Thoughtrender Lamia, and I'm looking at Waste Not, and I see a janky enchantment control discard something or other that I want to try out.
