Clone Legion in a devotion deck?
Can easily Nykthos into the mana.... copy all the Master of Waves tokens... plus the Master itself, making more tokens.
I think I like it as a 1-2 of.
March 12, 2015 11:08 a.m.
Copy every token, copy the Master, generate more tokens AND make the tokens 3/2.
Probably the only situation in which this card is usable, though.

Dromoka's Command is solid. Could easily net a 2 for 1 for 2 mana.
March 12, 2015 11:25 a.m.
dromokas command is nice. Makes your rhino a 5/6 and fights their 4/5 rhino.

So what do you guys thing of Bulk/EDH Mythics the Set
March 12, 2015 12:02 p.m.
I think it's funny that the green commands are the most playable out of the entire cycle. Dromoka's Command and Atarka's Command are very good in a variety of decks.

WotC wants people to play green. They want people to play creature decks. They want midrange to become popular.

They'll ban something else. Probably Liliana of the Veil.
March 12, 2015 12:09 p.m.
Ugh. Stop trying to Timmy-ify the player base, Wizards. Goddammit.

so I started to right a post about how bad dromaka's cammand is in modern. then i deleted it and wrote this.Dromaka's command is amazing. It's going to be a 2-3 of in modern abzan and maybe zoo. it's great in the mirror "I'll make ghoyf/rhino bigger than yours then they'll fight". It's also good against burn, twin, and merfolk.
March 12, 2015 12:14 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #17
Not really good against merfolk, twin or burn. It is definitely a good hatebears/zoo/abzan sideboard card for all their mirror matches.
March 12, 2015 12:17 p.m.
wwhitegoldd says... #18
It's good against twin and merfolk because your not ALWAYS going to have abrupt decay. so the command acts like a removal spell that is actually OK against burn. also against merfolk you can have your creature kill there's and make them sac that spreading seas that's making there creatures unblockable.

Clone Legion seems...generally pretty good in most EDH decks that build out a boardstate and run blue?
like, just double everything you own? If an opponent is more built up than you then you can clone their stuff.
also, while I don't really play control in Standard I like Myth Realized in that deck. I can't really judge modern but is it dying to Abrupt Decay really such a nail in its coffin? seems to me like a lot of things are 3 CMC in this format and with all the cantrips I wouldn't be surprised to see Myth Realized build up a lot of lore.
idk I'd be willing to take a chance on it if Modern was affordable.

also, dromaka's command is hilarious against ad nauseum, "I'll stop your win con and make u sac your unlife. your dead"

The problem is is that it provides no immediate benefit BlastercoolWeird. All the other stuff in modern are either just one card out of many (aggro decks), have protection (Boggles, control and hatebears), are just simply effective beaters (BG/x midrange), Flash in or proc a combo (UB faeries, control, Twin), or have immediate benefit in the form of ETB triggers (Blink, Bloom Titan, Faeries) or sac effects (Zoo, hatebears). The biggest killer about Abrupt Decay is that it can't be countered, and the biggest reason why Myth Realized won't get used is that trying to protect it from Abrupt Decay removes any advantage you've gotten from it, and that it has none of the effects mentioned above that other modern decks have.

also I really like Commune with Lava
I saw it and was like "Oh cool Red draw spell" then I slept on it and was like "wait you'd be paying 3RR for 3 cards that you then have to have the mana to cast"
and then I realized I can cast it at instant speed AND until end of my next turn. I...really like it and want to find a slot for it.
March 12, 2015 12:46 p.m.
Commune with Lava is pretty sweet. There people thinking about running it in Modern UR Storm as a "Draw a billion cards" but I'm unsure if it has a place there.
There are two things I hate about Dromoka's Command. First, why does everyone have to mention Siege Rhino immediately after the command? Second, in all the other commands the abilities are listed in the order of their colors in the mana cost. E.g Ojutai's Command has the abilities listed before the ones. In Dromoka's Command, the abilities are listed first, despite the mana cost being listed . It's super nit-picky card templating thing, but it bugs me to no end.
That said, Dromoka's Command is very playable in many formats and you should play it.
March 12, 2015 12:51 p.m.
So this white 1 mana enchantment that gets bigger as you just play a control game. Is that a potential sleeper for modern. It's somewhat like goyf in that it costs almost no mana to cast and becomes a massive bomb just naturally, with almost no effort, as you play the game. Awful top deck though. Thoughts?
March 12, 2015 12:54 p.m.
I feel naturally ominous that the day we find that the Turtle is dead is the day Sir Terry Pratchett dies... RIP
Well, looks like there is one more fight instant. Atarka is still the best command, but I like this too.
And the clones... 9 mana to copy opponent's board. If it was an instant, it could troll Descent, or Sarkhan's ultimate. But as it is... meh.
March 12, 2015 12:56 p.m.
Well.... the Basic Land got spoiled today.
Nice Artwork, but no full-art land. - No idea why they decided to wait until this late in spoiler season to show them.
March 12, 2015 12:57 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #28
My thoughts on it are on the previous page ChiefBell. Basically it ended up with being that it dies to Abrupt Decay and returning it to your hand means that you lose all of your investment in it. I prefer anything else we have at the moment over it.

CommanderOfBolas says... #29
they waited during ktk to spoil lands as well. id imagine that their reasons are the same (not that I know their reasoning. probably something to do with hype)
March 12, 2015 1 p.m.
If a 1-drop Enchantment gets eaten by an Abrupt Decay, I call that a win. - The trick is to allow it to be a threat, without making it something you are relying on.
However, if you have better first turn plays (Thoughtseize comes to mind for my tokens), then you probably don't want this.
control... though I'm not extremely familiar with it... has Serum Visions and possibly leaving the mana up for Spell Pierce. - I feel that these may be better options, but it likely depends on what your opponent is playing.
However, as opposed to a tokens deck, control really has not better targets for an Abrupt Decay to hit.

In other news, I'm getting REALLY irritated by WotC's lack of english proofreading in the flavour text. Yes I know there is the matter of space constraints, but most of the time it is the lack of perhaps one to 5 keywords that really need the flavour text to feel like it is full of flavour and not awkward spiel.
March 12, 2015 1:16 p.m.
So I will flat out say outside of slivers I have venomous hatred for everything with green and white because I feel wizards tries to break them hard core meanwhile Rakdos colors have had 1 chase rare in god knows how long (Fulminator Mage, but seeing dromoka command I honestly am okay with it. Is it solid? Yes. (My only real issue is how it's a strictly better Hunt the Weak with more value in every aspect) but I don't find it as backbreaking as almost every green white creature or whatever that usually demand immediate removal (looking at Voice of Resurgence and as an 8rack player Loxodon Smiter to name a recent couple that annoyed me) so wizards I'll thank you for not making the GW command absolutely overpowered but I'm still mad at you for literally giving RB the shaft every block.

You can copy your own board, too. This card can have a huge use in various situations.

Clone is mainly casual and edh appeal. Nothing more.

dan8080 yeah, they do tend to overpower green and white, which gets frustrating as hell for everyone that doesn't like that combo.

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #36
That new command is terrible. I mean, really Wizards? Atarka's is so much better...
March 12, 2015 1:36 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #37
Like I said before dan8080, WotC wants players to play green, because they want MtG to become creature oriented, because they want the meta to be mainly midrange. Mardu relies quite heavily on instants and sorceries with creatures that are more synergy with each other or with the instants and sorceries than they are pure beatsticks like the Rhino. Thus, until WotC comes under new management, we won't be seeing a change in ideals for a long long time.
March 12, 2015 1:38 p.m.
Every time I scroll down a little on a Spoiler page, and come across Assault Formation, I can't help but think how broken this can be.
All those cheap 2-drop 0/4, 0/5 utility creatures are essentially 4/4, 5/5...
Nyx-Fleece Ram - 2-drop 5/5, gains life each turn and doesn't even have defender, so you don't have to pay to attack.
Dragon's Eye Savants - 2-Drop 6/6, with morph ability to look at opponents hand... also not a Defender.
Archers' Parapet - 2-drop 5/5, deals damage without attacking.
Wall of Frost - 3-drop 7/7, that (if a creature survives it), hold down things it blocks.
Monastery Flock - 3-drop 5/5, Flying.
...the list goes on!
Not to mention that for , you essentially give all your creatures +1/+1 for the turn.
The only downfall I can see for this card is that none of it's abilities stack, so having multiple in hand is just a dead card. (until your opponent gets rid of one... which they certainly will try to do.)

Femme_Fatale: Doesn't "THE deck" to play tend to shift from Standard to Standard, though? I wasn't actually playing during Theros Standard but wasn't Azorius/Esper control just ridiculously dominant? It seems okay to me for each Standard to have its own feel and its own dominant decks. That said, Siege Rhino should never have been printed.
March 12, 2015 1:41 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #41
It was more or less a recent exclamation from WotC alexthegreat38. It mainly expands to their eternal format focus, and that one at the moment is modern. However, because their focus is modern, it will affect standard too.
March 12, 2015 1:46 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #42
Even THE deck in standard is usually
U-x control
G-x Midrange
R-x Aggro
You'd be hard pressed to find deviations from that formula in the last 10 years. Last season was one of those because of the devotion decks.
March 12, 2015 1:51 p.m.
Well solution to the wizards wants Everyone playing creature based midrangey stuff is simply print more playable creatures in non green colors that have aspects of their colors. For example (although extreme) cards like Phyrexian Obliterator very solid creature in base power and toughness for it's cost with upside in a way that relates to what black is all about.
March 12, 2015 1:52 p.m.
Mono Black Devotion was better than Sphinx control. Was a whole lot interesting to play, but it was technically better. The power level in the format was MBD > Sphinx Control > MUD > GR/Jund Monsters > Everything else. This is generally how it was. Orzhov control was better than MDB at some times. It just really depended on what people were using on a week to week basis, but that was generally the order.
March 12, 2015 1:55 p.m.
That is true Thunderbreak Regent is pretty solid and I keep forgetting about that guy 4 drop 4/4 with built in protection i pretty solid

Also, VampireArmy, I think I figured out the problem with your font. It takes a long time for it to apply whereever you post, and it will only apply when you post somewhere/where your name appears.
