Named_Tawyny says... #1

Rebound is the Oujutai mechanic .That means it'll only be on White and Blue cards. Bolt is rather unlikely.

i love Radiant Purge. but all my friends play mono color decks =(

JWiley129 says... #3

If you haven't seen this bad boy, I'd strongly recommend you pick him early and often in Limited and expect to see him in Commander. I doubt he'll see Standard play, but his ability is no joke.

March 3, 2015 8:09 a.m.

If he were one cheaper I'd say Modern playable for sure. Maybe in a control shell? It can't die to Bolt because of the +1/+1 counter it gets when your opponent casts it. Actually, I could probably see Abzan playing this as a 1 of for attrition power.

IAmKingTony says... #5

the red dragon is very strong

as soon as it drops it instantly becomes the biggest priority target which means at the very least it eats a removal spell, Bolts, and then leaves the way open for Stormbreath to swoop in

davidsays1 says... #6

I believe that there might be a weaker nicol bolas in DTK it never said he died just ugin was saved. I also believe they might print a weaker sarkhan as it said he returned with unexpected results. So one of the clans might be stronger than ever. I believe that will be sultai. As deathbringer want announced and is god in my local meta of tokens. I also want them to print taigam from taigams scheming its said narset trained him and he switched to sultai after

JWiley129 says... #9

There is no way Bolas is getting a planeswalker card in Dragons of Tarkir, and people need to stop suggesting that he will be. He was in the story out of necessity, but there hasn't been any indication that Bolas will show up again. The planeswalkers this set appear to be a new Sarkhan and Narset. While we have zero confirmation there, I would be surprised to see anyone else show up as a planeswalker.

March 3, 2015 9:09 a.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #10

I could imagine that Sarkhan, because of the time travel, somehow lost his spark.

March 3, 2015 9:13 a.m.

GotCubes says... #11

My theory is that because Sarkhan only exists to satisfy the paradox he created, and therefore simply existed instead of being born, he has no spark anymore. I think he may show up as a legendary creature perhaps.

March 3, 2015 9:20 a.m.

mpeach1 says... #12

I'm not expecting him to lose his spark. I think he'll end up being as strong as ever in this timeline as well. Look for "Sarkhan, Dragon Mage"

And didn't MaRo say something about 6 walkers being in the block before the dtk release? If that's the case we should have 3 walkers right? Who would be the 3rd?

March 3, 2015 10:28 a.m.

GotCubes says... #13

Sarkhan, Narset, and Bolas possibly? Seems neat :)

March 3, 2015 10:31 a.m.

davidsays1 says... #14

I didn't say bolas would be a planeswalker just that he may be in the set seeing as he didn't die. People are saying narset might be a walker but in all honesty i think she might've died off. The designer said not all khans survived. But Sidisi survived so lets find out. I think sarkhan is definitely weaker.

March 3, 2015 10:41 a.m.

davidsays1 I mentioned this before but after reading the Blind Eternities articles we know that Narset was exiled from Otujai as a heretic and her whereabouts are unknown. Taigam is now second to Otujai herself.

My guess is that we get a legendary Taigam "khan" card and Narset has in fact had her spark ignited. I still think she will be a u/w walker but there is always the chance she converted to Silumgar after being exiled... the only evidence we have of this is her overly fancy armor on the pack art though.

ChiefBell says... #16

Golgari dragon or riot.

But seriously that white removal spell is pretty good.

March 3, 2015 10:52 a.m.

MindAblaze says... #17

Could the unexpected results for Sarkhan be a non-red version?

March 3, 2015 10:52 a.m.

GotCubes says... #18

Ojutai's Command is going right into my Jeskai deck. Such a nice tribute to Cryptic Command, though obviously not quite as good.

sorry, I forgot how to show images...

March 3, 2015 11:16 a.m.

I am drooling over Ojutai's Command

March 3, 2015 11:27 a.m.

I'll take 4 Shaman of Forgotten Ways please!

March 3, 2015 11:32 a.m.

ceji3 says... #26

Shaman of Forgotten Ways looks really fun in standard and has a really nice late game against control, as they run almost no creatures. That is, of course, if it lives. But a 2/3 for 3 with tapping to mana fix with 2 mana is good. Really not sure how i feel, because a t2 caryatid still allows for the turn 3 rhino, and the same with this, but this needs a t1 elvish mystic. Double rhino meets up formidable, but without being able to use the mana to activate the formidable mana, i think this card will be slightly over rated, but none the less, a decent card.

We also get a strictly worse cryptic command in standard, YAY!

Radiant purge will now be in the sb for any deck with white, including mine, probably as a two of.

Sunscorch reget looks the most OP of the dragons, but it is

March 3, 2015 11:35 a.m.

Rayenous says... #27

I hope the command is a cycle... would love to see what other options they have come up with.

As far as this one goes...

Counter their creature
Return Snapcaster Mage
... then recast with Snapcaster...
Draw a card
Gain 4 life

March 3, 2015 11:39 a.m.

ceji3 says... #28

More excited for this set than any other set so far. Hoping for them enemy colored fetches reprinted. IF they are, then i need to trade my Misty Rainforest before it drops.

March 3, 2015 11:41 a.m.

Rayenous says... #29

Use Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, and you could do all of the above for 4CMC.

March 3, 2015 11:41 a.m.

ceji3 says... #30

Rayenous, that requires 8 mana, which is hardly ever reached in modern, but a fun idea nonetheless.

March 3, 2015 11:43 a.m.

ceji3 says... #31

Esper control is now a thing folks.

March 3, 2015 11:44 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #32

So like.... Is ojutais command a trap investment or actually good.

It might remind people of cryptic command but it does have many differences.

On the upside it reanimates, and it's easier to cast than cryptic.

On the downside it's not a wide counter, it's narrow, and it can't stop a Twin deck from winning the game when they combo (unlike cryptic).

This is either wizards tricking us with a poor card that reminds us of a good one or it is useful. For the fact that it doesn't counter all spell types I think it's a poor imitation.

March 3, 2015 11:56 a.m.

$20 for a playset of the Shaman feels good, already pulled the trigger.

ceji3 what makes you think Esper Control is any more viable now?

March 3, 2015 11:57 a.m.

mpeach1 says... #34

I do seriously hope they make a cycle of commands. I love that card but I'm still playing sultai. These rare dragons aren't as bad as I'd expect either

March 3, 2015 11:58 a.m.

NixTheThird says... #35

I was underwhelmed at the command at first. That 'draw a card' clause though... that helps. I do think that a good amount of the current hype is residual sheen from cryptic though. Still a fair card with the flexibility that makes a couple worthwhile in the right deck (did I mention the 'draw a card' section?).

March 3, 2015 12:03 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #36

mpeach1 - If you read the article you'll see that Gavin Verhey says that there will be a cycle of commands. So get hype!

March 3, 2015 12:03 p.m.

notamardybum says... #37

ChiefBell right when i saw its name i automatically went to cryptic, then i read the card and was like, nope not cryptic. counter is too conditional, i don't really care about reanimating one of my little creatures, gain 4 life, meh, and im not paying 4 just to draw a card.

overall, not a cryptic command. but i hope this means more will be released in this set, possibly UB or BR?

March 3, 2015 12:07 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #38

Yea that's awesome. Hopefully they're all solid. I am pretty excited for the set so far

March 3, 2015 12:08 p.m.

Ojutai's Command may not be a Modern card but I'm willing to bet it'll be pretty damn standard playable in UWx Control shells.

Also I /really/ like Boltwing Marauder. Play this, next turn Hordeling Outburst, swing with marauder for 11? This is the push I needed to modify my mono-red deck to be a RB build

March 3, 2015 12:17 p.m.

http404error says... #40

ColdHeartedSith: There is no chance of them reprinting a planeswalker from a core set in an expert-level expansion. They've never done it before, and they won't do it now. Benefits no one, terrible idea.

JakeHarlow: Ghostfire is colorless magic (red is bloodfire). See the Planeswalker's Guide to Tarkir.

March 3, 2015 12:26 p.m.

Phaetion says... #41

No love for Necromaster Dragon? I'm almost quite certain zombie tribal EDH decks could use a flying, token-generating beatstick. Saying that, I could be wrong.

March 3, 2015 12:30 p.m.

When you read the articles on the WotC page, you learn things.

"In Dragons of Tarkir, the five rare Dragons from Fate Reforged are back. They've had more than a millennium to grow into their position. They're Elder Dragons now. They have quite a few dragons to do their bidding and special spells at their disposal. And each has a multicolored Command."

Also, is anyone else thinking Jund dragon-ramp? Elvish Mystic, Sylvan Caryatid, and Shaman of Forgotten Ways into Thunderbreak Regent, Stormbreath, Kolaghan, Atarka, Boltwing Marauder? Plus you'd get two fetchlands and two Commands from Dragons. This looks like it could be fun.

March 3, 2015 12:57 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #44

so nothing particularly good today, unless more is spoiled later on.

March 3, 2015 1:17 p.m.

davidsays1 says... #45

If zurgo killed narset in the original timeline, when sarkhan comes back will narset be alive? Wait yeah i think she's a planeswalker now

March 3, 2015 2:58 p.m.

WovenNebula says... #46

Does anyone think we're going to get cards that come from the aftermath of time travel, like Dash Hopes?New cards that is. I'm hoping we do see some.

March 3, 2015 3:09 p.m.

ceji3 says... #47

Excited for the presumably command. Hope it has draw, exile, counters, etc. I think it could really help abzan decks, but it could also just be terrible

March 3, 2015 4:01 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #48

I'm a bit afraid about the UB-Command. If it's anything like this one, it'll be somewhat Counter//Destroy target Creature//Draw Cards//Something and that'll be annoying as hell.

March 3, 2015 4:10 p.m.

ceji3 says... #49

Rasta_Viking29- As to why i think Esper will be the most viable control shell is simple. Getting access to 3 cards as simple win cons, 2x Silumgar, the Drifting Death and 1x new silumgar maybe, or 1x new Ojutai. It also has access to the best board wipes, ie, 1 Perilous Vault and 3 Crux of Fate. It gets Bile Blight, Hero's Downfall, Drown in Sorrow, and Murderous Cut. It still keeps a good late game with Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Elspeth, Sun's Champion and the dragons, and still has access to counterspells such as Dissolve and Disdainful Stroke. It gets access to SB cards such as the new radiant purge and old spells like Glare of Heresy and potentially Erase depending on the matchups/meta. It also will have access to Ojutai's command and presumably the command from Silumgar's side. While losing Sultai Charm, Kiora, the Crashing Wave and Garruk, Apex Predator, you gain more control elements. However, it isn't outlandish to say that Everything but red control could work.

March 3, 2015 4:13 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #50

CaptainWoosh Would be nice if it was that, but more likely? It's going to be 1) Target Opponent mills two cards, 2) Target Opponent Discards two cards, 3) Target Opponent Exiles his/her graveyard, 4) Target Opponent Draws a card.
