Okay, now that I've finished my break and fiddling with my username, I'll go back to finishing the other half of this set. It is another long and arduous 5 hours to go.
January 9, 2015 9:31 p.m.
I'm kind of excited to get my hands on these cards. I've already designed Abzan, Temur, and Sultai decks around some of them and I can't wait to get to use them. Especially, Ghastly Conscription which looks like a really fun card.

FatherLiir says... #4
I Don't understand why Ghastly Conscription has you shuffle the face down pile... what does that add or remove from the game?
January 9, 2015 9:40 p.m.
FatherLiir ~ it's so you can't stack the cards in a certain order to know which ones are creatures or lands etc. Like if you had Courser of Kruphix or something.
January 9, 2015 9:42 p.m.
I'm sorry. Forget about that courser part. Just the stacking cards thing since it's your graveyard which can be looked through/checked over whenever you want.

@bellock66 As - fan (meaning "as you fan put the cards"). So the asfan of dragons in ftr is the average number of dragons seen in a given booster pack. So you will typically see 2 dragons for every 3 packs you open of the set. Remember, though, this is an average, so opening 3 packs with an asfan of .67 doesn't mean you will see 2 dragons, but you likely would
January 9, 2015 9:52 p.m.
I assumed you shuffle them so your opponent can't look at the face down manifestations. He might remember all the creatures you had in the grave but he won't know which is which on the field until they flip.

In my opinion, Fate Reforged is turning out to be a nice, solid set, decent for limited and ok for constructed.
January 10, 2015 2:30 a.m.
Can it really be true, that RED is the ONLY color, that don't get a mythic besides the Khans?!
January 10, 2015 1:16 p.m.
Shaman of the Great Hunt is what I meant with "Khans" :)
All other colors have gotten a mythic "Khan leader thing" and another mythic. Red has only gotten the "Khan leader thing"!!
January 10, 2015 2:53 p.m.
lemmingllama says... #19
White has Monastery Mentor and Soulfire Grand Master
Black has Ghastly Conscription and Brutal Hordechief
Blue has Temporal Trespass and Torrent Elemental
Green has Whisperwood Elemental and Warden of the First Tree
Red has only Shaman of the Great Hunt, no second mythic. The tenth mythic spot goes to Ugin, the Spirit Dragon instead.
January 10, 2015 3:16 p.m.
Ehh I feel like red did fine in this set. White did extremely well, especially if you just look at the two mythics they got.
I'm not really impressed by blue's mythics though. Torrent Elemental's activated ability seems really random.
January 10, 2015 3:22 p.m.
CommanderOfBolas says... #21
@Necrotize: What do you mean his ability seems random? he comes back from exile with his ability, which makes perfect sense considering sultai exiles cards from their yard with delve. they also have Whip of Erebos that can exile him. he is nearly impossible to get rid of.
January 10, 2015 3:39 p.m.
Ahh, totally forgot about Delve. Never mind lol. Actually like him a lot more now. I'm not huge into standard(or at all really) but delve has probably been the first mechanic to pique my interest in it. I still think Red did just fine with only one mythic, especially for me since I can totally see a use for Shaman of the Great Hunt in a few EDH decks, namely Mayael and Marchesa.
January 10, 2015 3:50 p.m.
I see Ojutai, Soul of Winter missing from the systems database.
January 10, 2015 3:51 p.m.
rob_shifflett says... #24
How is Shaman of the Great Hunt legal in Mayael or Marchesa? It's color identity is RGU.
January 10, 2015 4:07 p.m.
Why do I have to overlook every single thing whenever I post shit. I was really looking forward to using that card too T_T
January 10, 2015 4:17 p.m.
I was mistaken Ojoutai, Soul of Winter isn't missing, the name is just spelled incorrectly.
January 10, 2015 4:22 p.m.
I know, I was so excited :(
Suppose it could have its uses in Animar, not that he needed any help to begin with.
January 10, 2015 8:01 p.m.
i plan on putting Shaman of the Great Hunt in Animar, Soul of Elements :D
January 10, 2015 8:17 p.m.
Femme_Fatale can you fix Marang River Prowler the site thinks he's white.

So, now that we've had some time to digest the new cards, which are everyone's favorites?
I have to say that mine is between Reality Shift and Temur Sabertooth. The first because I need removal for my mono-blue that doesn't simply bounce, and the second because I like building decks that maintain board state, and it can help with that.

My favorite cards are Torrent Elemental, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death and Yasova Dragonclaw since they each got me to brew a deck around them.
Torrent Elemental made me want to try sidisi whip:
Torrential Whip Playtest
Standard*
SCORE: 1 | 1 COMMENTS | 61 VIEWSAlesha made me want to try new ways of abusing etb affects:
Smiling at the Reaper Playtest
Commander / EDH*
SCORE: 0 | 0 COMMENTS | 16 VIEWSAnd Yasova got me to build a tiny leaders deck:
Under the Dragon's Claw Playtest
Tiny Leaders*
SCORE: 0 | 0 COMMENTS | 2 VIEWSI also kind of want to try Alesha, Who Smiles at Death in a standard jund reanimator list. Hornet Queen has 2 power you know.
January 10, 2015 9:41 p.m.
I really like Atarka, World Render because when I play a seven-mana dragon, I want it to END things when it attacks. Temur Battle Rage is a great combat trick, and I really want to build B/W warriors because of Brutal Hordechief too.
January 10, 2015 10:47 p.m.
Ooh Alesha with Hornet Queen and Frontier Siege could be sick
January 11, 2015 1:40 a.m.
Hjaltrohir says... #36
My favs are the vere-boring and ever-unoriginal Monastery Mentor and Soulfire Grand Master otherwise, I really like Hero's Blade and Torrent Elemental is just waiting to be brewed around. Its a shame that Brutal Hordechief cant be played in Marchesa, he would have fitted straight in to my deck...

Best commons/uncommons in my opinion for limited with the prerelease coming up
Green
Destructor Dragon (maybe)
Blue
Reality Shift my favorite
White
Red
Friendly Fire (not a huge red guy)
Black
Multicolor
Just my opinion!
January 11, 2015 2:25 a.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #38
I really enjoy Brutal Hordechief. So far being able to swing with 7 creatures, gain 7 life and force 7 damage through even if they have a heavy amount of blockers is a real boon. Haven't activated is blocking ability yet.
January 11, 2015 2:32 a.m.
@TrystonSpencer Neutralizing Blast doesn't seem playable in limited. Rakshasa's Disdain is fine, but it's just a less color intensive, less reliable Cancel.
January 11, 2015 2:52 a.m.
I want Write into Being, Jeskai Infiltrator, Whisperwood Elemental, and Temur War Shaman. I really like the idea of manifest.
January 11, 2015 2:52 a.m.
In just FRF limited Neutralizing Blast isn't very effective, but in Khans block limited it will be extremely effective I'd think.

Quick question, Mardu Strike Leader, would his ability stack if you had multiple of him on the field?
January 11, 2015 6:12 a.m.
quesobueno123 says... #43
landstalker10 Yes each one would generate a token.
January 11, 2015 6:29 a.m.
Schuesseled says... #44
They would each generate a token but they wouldn't stack; with each one generating a token for each of them on the field.
January 11, 2015 7:56 a.m.
CommanderOfBolas says... #45
@landstalker quesobueno123: His ability does not stack. they each generate one token for themselves, and that is it. When a card says its name in the text like that, it is referring specifically to itself. The reason they do that is so something like Lazav, Dimir Mastermind cant get the trigger if he is a copy of Mardu Strike Leader, since his name stays Lazav.
If it said "whenever a creature you control named Mardu Strike Leader attacks..." then the abilities would stack
January 11, 2015 1:59 p.m.
CommanderOfBolas - I thought that when a card mentions its card name in a card, it is the same as saying "This card" so shouldn't Lazav, Dimir Mastermind get a 2/1 if it is a copy of Mardu Strike Leader?

At this point I think I'm grabbing either the Temur or Abzan pre-release pack, either way is a win, win and i'll be excited to see how all my matches go :)
