I went abzan so best of luck to me haha

Jeskai or Mardu, simply because white got too many good toys to not play around with while Black got some nice potential rare pulls while Red aggro is just plain good in limited anyway. Valley Dasher is my favorite after my last two drafts and I'm assuming Dash mechanic will be no different. Although I have a feeling a ton of people will go Jeskai since one of the two most expensive cards are in that wheelhouse or go Mardu since it seems to do great in Khans drafts, although that will have less impact since we only get 1 khans pack.

Temur or Jeskai or Sultai, simply because I have too many red spindowns and I don't like Abzan's, the color of sh...I mean mud!

January 11, 2015 4:58 p.m.

I personally will be going sultai, mardu, or jeskai. I think sultai has some of the best cards in it, but white did get some great stuff.

So what exactly is going on with Ugin's fate?

January 11, 2015 6:16 p.m.

The ugins fate packs contain a land, a token, and 2 random cards with alternate art

January 11, 2015 7:34 p.m.

landstalker10 says... #7

People said they would never reprint the fetch lands. Walaa, Done! Good rule of thumb, if its in their modern. They will bring it back. For no other reason than to keep it affordable for new players. Spending 2-3 hundred should be top notch. Not a beginning.

January 11, 2015 8:22 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #8

WotC cares nothing about the secondary market or they would have had words with the distributors over pricing and hoarding their product.

January 11, 2015 8:31 p.m.

@landstalker10: The ktk fetches were originally from Onslaught, not a modern legal set. also, Femme is correct with what she said

January 11, 2015 9:21 p.m.

landstalker10 says... #10

Actually prices are semi influenced by MTG. They print singles for sell by shops hosting FNM+. It is a great strategy to keep their product available and popularity up. They learned from the original days when cars like Mahamoti Djinn was over 15$. When cards like this printed today are under a buck. Its not because of the hoarders.

January 11, 2015 9:37 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #11

Uh dude, did you not see what happened with Modern Masters? WotC knows what happened, and yet they still went and declared Modern Masters 2 with a limited print run.

mpeach1 says... #12

I'm going to have to agree

January 11, 2015 11:21 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #13

like Femme said they don't worry what the secondary market is doing. they just want to sell product to distributors, they don't really care what happens after that as long as people are still buying new stuff which people do in hopes of pulling a valuable card from a $4 pack.

This is not your Magic blog, only your last post is relevant to this thread.

January 12, 2015 1:34 p.m.

HARDsofty says... #19

My apologies.

Seriously, I heard that there may be all Fate Reforged packs in the Prerelease kits.

Does anybody know for sure? I couldn't find much on kit content. Just that there will be a die, achievement card and seeded pack. Nothing about other five packs in the kit.

@bendjohnson

Please be aware of the topic of the thread when posting, as well as the topic of the forum (when creating a new post).

The information you are looking for already has a discussion under "limited".
It can be found here
That thread discusses the particulars regarding pre-release pack contents, and specifics as to the changes made for this pre-release.

Then lets ask a different question. At prerelease, what is the one clan box you would only ever pick if there was nothing left? I.E, least favorite for whatever reason, be it you think it doesn't have a shot at winning or you just hate the color combo.

My last pick would probably be Sultai. It just didn't seem to get too many FRF bombs for limited plus I was sad to see so few strong delve cards, at least in a drafting sense.

January 12, 2015 5:53 p.m.

I like every color combo here, actually. I think I'm least likely to go with mardu. I'm not much for aggressive decks. I think I'll end up going Jeskai just for the added bonus of a potential monastery mentor or soulfire grandmaster

January 12, 2015 5:57 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #29

Yea Id say Mardu would be my least likely as well. I'm feeling Sultai though. I've been playing it in Standard this season and it did well for me in the KTK prereleases the times I chose it. If I play more than one, I'll go Jeskai second for sure

January 12, 2015 6:05 p.m.

Necrotize says... #30

I do like Mardu since it has done great for the Khans drafts for me(plus I got some sweet pulls for it both times) but I have to agree with you on that. Mardu aggro lost some great commons and uncommons, especially since we only get one Khans pack. If we got two, maybe had a chance but with one I'd rather not risk it. Act of Treason has actually won me games that I would have otherwise lost. Lost steam after a few turns, which is typical of aggro, then top deck Act to steal their best creature after they swing out, giving me exactly lethal.

January 12, 2015 6:17 p.m.

Ghorrhyon says... #31

I think Mardu = Temur > Abzan > Jeskai > Sultai. I'm a basic person with a hunger for aggresion : )

January 12, 2015 7:01 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #32

if i were playing in the prerelease my least likely to pick clan would be Sultai. just generally doesnt focus on what i like doing. i would only be splashing blue for Dig, Cruise or Reality Shift anyway. and something tells me Shift will be one of the harder to come by uncommons anyway.

I feel like manifest is potentially very powerful

January 12, 2015 8:40 p.m.

323Dimitri says... #34

It seems really good in sealed and could be great in pair withCourser of Kruphix in constructed. between fetches manifest and playing lands off of the top you will almost never have dead draws

January 12, 2015 8:42 p.m.

Necrotize says... #35

Really? I had my doubts about manifest in limited due to the lack of top deck manipulation. I suppose it gives you the ability to turn even lands into 2/2's, but the manifest ability only lets you turn it face up if it is a creature, meaning those lands, instants, enchantments and sorceries that get manifested are lost. Idk, it just feels like more of a mind game kind of advantage as opposed to an actual one. Especially since even Temur will probably have a fair deal of non-creature spells due to the nice amount of "Fight" effects they have for removal.

January 12, 2015 9:11 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #36

I am so torn about what clan to pick. I know it's basically luck when it comes down to it but the seeded pack has me really concerned.

I'm generally more of a midrange player and the aggressive feel of FRF limited is throwing me.

Anyone wanna weigh in? Of course I'd love to win the tourney but I'd settle for just having fun. Lol

January 12, 2015 9:20 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #37

Yea I'm not 100% how I feel about it as a mechanic

January 12, 2015 9:20 p.m.

nighthawk101 says... #38

I would love manifest if there were more good cards that manifested.

The only Constructed playable ones are Whisperwood Elemental, Soul Summons, and Write into Being, and most of those are subpar. If you stretch, you can say Mastery of the Unseen, Cloudform, Qarsi High Priest, and Wildcall. Unfortunately, even those will likely see little to no play. Maybe the Elemental, but that's about it.

It's a good mechanic idea, but no cards with it really stand out.

January 12, 2015 9:29 p.m.

Necrotize says... #39

Although there are a few exceptions. Lightform will be great in limited, even if you do hit a land because 2/2 flying lifelink for 3 is a perfectly good deal, especially if it has potential to be even better. Cloudform as well since again, flying is nice. But IMO, taking some nice bolster cards from white into mardu aggro could actually make up for it losing some nice commons/uncommons from Khans. I'll probably end up going Mardu anyway since aggro is easy to pilot(which should be noted when everyone is using new cards) and I feel it has the most to gain from bolster and lucky pulls. Plus, since it is white, I can still gain some use from the fact that white has the best mythics.

That and I can totally see Mardu Scout and Break Through the Line in general doing some serious work.

Which gets me thinking, if you can get a few Break Through's, then I would definitely consider lots of manifest cards. Unblockable 2/2s in an aggro color to help with late game is too good.

January 12, 2015 9:43 p.m.

Necrotize says... #40

Btw, my friend and I have been hypothesizing what the promo will be and we've come to the conclusion that it likely could be the legendary dragons.

Their effects fit almost perfectly(IMO) with the slogans of each pack.

Endurance is Bolster

Cunning is Hexproof+Tap down effect

Ruthlessness is mini Drown in Sorrow/mass killer effect

Speed is Dash

And Savagery is doublestrike

Thoughts?

January 12, 2015 9:48 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #41

You are forgetting about Reality Shift, nighthawk101. Though that really doesn't help your manifest game plan.

January 12, 2015 9:58 p.m.

@Necrotize: the U/W dragon has vigilance, not hexproof. the U/B dragon has hexproof. As far as promos go, aren't they doing the 40 promos like they did with ktk?

January 12, 2015 10:21 p.m.

Necrotize says... #43

Bleh, knew I should have linked the cards, no way I was gonna remember them all. This was just speculation since as far as I know, they haven't said what the promos will be. If you have a link to where they do say/hint at that though, that'd be awesome because I can't decide what clan to pick and I think seeing the promos might help.

January 12, 2015 10:34 p.m.

There wasn't a list for ktk, they want it to be fun and surprising. so, if they are doing the same sort of thing, this would be my guess at promos: The khans, the mythics, the dragons, the intro pack rares, should be promos for sure. im not sure what the other ones will be, but they will probably be random rares like the new phoenix, Jeskai Infiltrator, etc.

January 12, 2015 10:42 p.m.

Necrotize says... #45

Darn, now I'm still stuck between which to pick >_>

Probably just end up going mardu anyway since it has been good to me in the past. Plus it means that if I am so lucky as to get a Soulfire Grand Master, I'll have the colors to use it(although not sure it lends itself to mardu aggro but meh :P)

January 12, 2015 10:46 p.m.

MWorl91 says... #46

Necrotize Scry to control what you manifest, and if you do manifest a land/instant/sorcery use cards that bounce creatures back into your hand. Such as Temur Sabertooth. Or just let them die and use them as delve fodder.

January 12, 2015 10:48 p.m.

Jeskai will smash pre all the good white red and blue stuff especially

January 13, 2015 12:48 a.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #48

Yeah, I am going jeskai for exactly that reason ColdHeartedSith.

January 13, 2015 1:47 a.m.

I'm waiting until the limited resources set review before I choose, but currently I think I'm going sultai. (Also I'd like a shot at a promo Torrent Elemental)

January 13, 2015 2:01 a.m.

nighthawk101 says... #50

@Femme_Fatale: Exactly. I should probably have been more clear, but I was speaking about cards that manifest your library. In theory, you could exile a mana dork or a useless manifest card to get a manifest card, but that's not the primary reason for running it.
