So according to mythic spoiler that's 3 mana to manifest and then give the manifested creature flying and lifelink. 3 mana for a flying lifelink creature. That's really decent. Not exciting but very solid.

Just imagine a damn flying lifelink hydra snake. Still not that exciting?

2/2 flying lifelink for 3 is great for limited, decent enough in standard if you're going the manifest route or mono white. definitely better than Soul Summons if you're choosing between those 2.

RedSarrior A damn 5/5 flying lifelink hydra snake for 5 CMC, precisely.
Thinking about Dragons of Tarkir, no one misses the Elders? Vaevictis Asmadi, Planeswalker would make me burst in tears...

Ghorrhyon - If I recall correctly, Nicol Bolas killed all the other Elder Dragons.

JWiley129 What makes you think that Bolas won't be in FRF? The reason Sarkhan went back in time in the first place was to either prevent Bolas from killing Ugin or to somehow heal him after the battle. He's been featured in Crux of Fate both in the art and in the subtext and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker's ult is the exact opposite of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon's. It seems almost certain that Nicol Bolas will be in FRF.

Wait... will all of the dragons have their clan's mechanic on them?
December 31, 2014 10:29 a.m.
So the dragons are dual coloured but have guild mechanics. Bit of a headache.

...and I didn't even see Frontier Siege. Going to be great in my Omnath EDH.
More on the uncommons: Battle Brawler and Marang River Prowler look to be the best. All of the other looks great (in draft, at least).

Is it just me, or did Soulfire Grand Master just pick up modern and snap it like a twig?
December 31, 2014 11:14 a.m.
No, it didn't. It fits into a few archetypes, and a few more as a sideboard card. 2 mana is too much for aggro decks to afford, and they don't care about lifelink.
Slower decks appreciate him and the 4 mana ability, but it must be stressed that 4 mana in modern is HUGE.
December 31, 2014 11:16 a.m.
ChiefBell I feel like most modern burn decks are going to start splashing white now. That could get interesting.

Frontier Siege is intriguing. 4 free mana a turn is nothing to scoff at and turning your dragons into removal spells could be good in certian situations. dragon looks badass too.
December 31, 2014 11:27 a.m.
I do think the Master will have a place in Modern. Not nearly enough to break the format, but definitely enough to lead tons of people to Jeskai-ize their current burn decks. Mardu control may also become a thing, although it probably won't be as strong.
To be honest, Soulflayer worries me more.

Time travel wise it seems to me that it would be more likely that rather than traveling back in time and bringing someone/thing (ugin) ahead with him that sarkhan will just rewrite history by keeping ugin alive and the dragons from dying out.
But...this creates somewhat of a connundrum. Because by doing so past sarkhan might never have left tarkir in search of a dragon master and thus change his own progression as a walker since ugin would have been around for him when he first set out on his own. (Coming from the lore from uncharted realms about sarkhans origin story)
I'm probably over speculating but time travel gets very dicey where ramifications are concerned.
Thoughts?

It worries me too square711 I get the feeling someone will have the bright idea to delve an Akroma, Angel of Wrath or a Sphinx of the Steel Wind Things could get bad fast
December 31, 2014 12:05 p.m.
MarduGras - If Bolas was going to show up in this block, he would show up here in Fate Reforged. Bolas WILL NOT show up in Dragons of Tarkir for the reason I said earlier and the signs weren't pointing to Bolas appearing in this block, but Ugin appearing in this block.
Also, all the numbers on Ugin (8 CMC, reverse-bolas ultimate) were clearly on purpose to mirror Bolas. There is no other proof that Bolas will show up in Khans block.
December 31, 2014 12:13 p.m.
Burn decks only want him in the mirror match, in normal games they won't care one bit abiut the lifelink (this is in modern). They already did splash white occasionally for Boros charm (not often though). They won't go full jeskai there's no point. A modern burn deck wants a t3 or T4 win. This guy doesn't help you do that. Burn only wants him against decks that can out race them and the only deck that can do that is......Burn.

I think Jeskai is gonna get more aggressive after FRF -- the Soulfire Grand Master and Wandering Champion combine with Seeker of the Way, Mantis Rider, and Jeskai Charm for a ridiculous weenie aggro/burn/lifelink deck. Might be fun.

Also, I'm very disappointed that Temur keeps getting the short end of the stick. First it got the weakest charm in KTK and no good instant-speed removal to deal with Abzan threats, and now in the first full cycle of cards they've shown us, the Temur and Sultai ones are tied for least playable. I was hoping they would try to make some of the weaker clans more powerful to even things out, but so far it looks like Wizards is just gonna keep Abzan and Jeskai as the strongest. I guess we still have a lot of the set to see, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
December 31, 2014 12:55 p.m.
I'd say Abzan and Sultai are the strongest clans, Jeskai's not great at the moment, even the tokens deck is kind of inconsistent. But I would agree that Temur needs the most help.

alexthegreat38 says... #32
Sultai is pretty legit, but if they don't get many more playable cards in KTK, I don't think they'll really have a deck unless the next set really helps them. I feel like Sultai wouldn't be where it's at without a lot of Theros cards like Thoughtseize, Hero's Downfall, Whip of Erebos, but I suppose we'll just have to see.
Hopefully the RG dragon is interesting and aggressive.

And by KTK I meant the Tarkir block, and by "next set" I meant "next block." LOL.

JWiley129 Ugin was also dead. Let a man dream, bro.
A dragon with antlers. RG never disappoints me.

Frontier siege naming dragons with Hornet Queen. Seems good.

Ohthenoises that will happen to me I'm sure. I'll probably tilt. Can't wait for hornet queen to rotate. Thundermaw we need you...

I'm also tempted to make hornet nest, and tactics a thing.
Have out nest and frontier siege, play tactics to fight nest with something suitable, get bees, bees auto fight, kill stuff.

shinobigarth says... #38
Frontier Siege is the best of the sieges so far. the WG dragon though is pretty stupid depending on how many dragons there will be in those colors and how much red splashing you'd need to do, but Naya dragons could be a thing, especially if every dragon that attacks pumps somebody up...

Femme_Fatale says... #40
Go Jund Ohthenoises, you can Crater's Claws your own Hornet Nest for 9.
December 31, 2014 5:46 p.m.
Frontier siege... looks scary. This a 4 drop providing 4 colored mana per turn (Market Festival and Thran Dynamo net less for comparisons), in a color that can easily play it by turn 3. You can run multiples in a mono-green ramp deck to get mana and then to Hornet Queen away your opponent's field. Green is already built around providing dumps for this kind of mana.
Flamerush Rider looks really good as well.

Yeah! All aboard the Jund train, screw the clans, they're all weak.
December 31, 2014 6:42 p.m.
Thanks Femme_Fatale! I definitely need that promo Disdainful Stroke. Dragons are much cooler than Naga.
December 31, 2014 7:08 p.m.
i like grixis in standard. the clan decks are too cookie cutter for me
December 31, 2014 7:11 p.m.
I almost sh@t my pants when I saw Ugin. Promises to be a very fun card, dontcha think? And his ultimate is complete opposite to Bolas', which is very flavourful. I hope The Elder Dragon will make a return in this expansion.
People keep saying blah blah blah Bolas can kill Ugin... well he DID kill Ugin, but on the plus side, Ugin is much easier to run than Bolas lol. Modern Tron, I'm looking forward to that...

Is there a code to get a certain printing to show now subrosian? Or did you go the long way around and implement the code by hand?
JWiley129 says... #1
I didn't mean to sound that way shinobigarth, and that comment wasn't aimed at you. If I did come across that way, I apologize.
