Filter land cycle - (Mystic Gate, Sunken Ruins, Graven Cairns, Fire-Lit Thicket, Wooded Bastion
Fetid Heath, Cascade Bluffs, Twilight Mire, Rugged Prairie, Flooded Grove)
Tectonic Edge
Wasteland
Dust Bowl
Horizon Canopy
Strip Mine
Eye of Ugin
Mana Confluence
Forbidden Orchard
Ancient Tomb
Kor Haven
I was hoping/expecting for all Modern Legal land, but barring that, some of these still don't make sense to me.
Forbidden Orchard - It was already reprinted as a foil collectible in in 'From the Vault: Realms'. They could have chosen something better.
Kor Haven...? - Sees exactly 0 play, that I'm aware of, and has little if any 'nostalgia' or collectibility reason to be printed... Even the Legendary Land cycle would have been better (Hammerheim, Urborg, etc.)
Strip Mine! - It's only playable in Vintage and Commander... and is restricted in Vintage. - I guess it's okay for an Expedition, but it wouldn't have been my selection. (Since these are primarily for collectors, it kind of makes sense)
Eye of Ugin - Makes sense for the theme of the Block, but it's so limited in it's use that I feel it's an awkward choice for the list.
Mana Confluence - I guess they had to choose between this and City of Brass. - Not sure which would be the better option, but I would have went with the 'older'/'classic' version. (Since these are primarily for collectors)
And really... No Pendelhaven, or Dryad Arbor? - Sure it was in From the Vault Realms
So 5 that I think are bad options... and there are a number of better options they could have made. (5 Scars lands, for example)
Your opinions on the list?
That would have been 25 land when there are only 20 slots.
But I agree, the 10 filters and 10 Man-Lands would have been better.

Wasteland is going to hit $300 easily. Legacy + Commander + pimpage.

I hope you realize that all of the Expeditions are on theme. I'm quite happy that we're getting Expedition versions of Ancient Tomb, Strip Mine, Wasteland, Dust Bowl, and Tectonic Edge.

canterlotguardian, I can see Wasteland at $150-200 since there are already 3 judge foil printings and this printing will be more common.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Judge foils. In any case, I need a playset of those Ancient Tombs for my Legacy deck. :3

to some extent they cant have all the expeditions be "super value" collectors cards like Ancient Tomb
would have liked to see the full set of man-lands (so like last set some were standard playable) but they are pushing the <> conversion so thats why ALOT of the lands made the list (like Kor Haven over say Pendelhaven)

...Anyone else annoyed that the image for Strip Mine is a tunnel?
December 14, 2015 10:54 a.m.
They should have done Rishadan Port instead of Forbidden Orchard, and City of Traitors instead of Kor Haven to stick with the colorless theme.

CastleSiege says... #12
Rishadan Port has the flavor of a different plane in its name but I can agree with City of Traitors over Kor Haven.
Rayenous, I think it's because Kozilek and a large portion of his brood were tunneling underground. You can see by the markings that those are Kozilek's wastes.
December 14, 2015 11:37 a.m. Edited.
I completely understand why it's a tunnel... I just find it a contradiction to say that a 'tunnel' is a 'Strip Mine'. - By definition it would not be a tunnel.

I'll be pissed if I get a Tectonic Edge. Seriously, an uncommon? Nice a $5 Expedition. So while we're opening tons of packs looking for cards that are found only 1 in 175 packs, some people will be pulling reprints of expensive and hard to find cards and others get this junk?

Ghost Quarter would have been nice.
After the horrible art on Verdant Catacombs I can't be hyped for Twilight Mire.
December 14, 2015 2:01 p.m.
@Jimmy_Chinchila - At least, if it's $5-$10, I won't be worried about wear/tear from playing it.
Soooo... Yeah... There's that, I guess.
I had completely forgotten it was an uncommon, to I would have put it on my original list of cards they shouldn't have included. - Top of the list at that!
December 14, 2015 2:07 p.m.
Tectonic Edge will be more than 5$
The tango lands (or Battle Lands if you prefer) are all 40$+, and they're only standard playable. Tectonic Edge is modern playable, and people like foiling out decks. I'm sure it will be near the same price range as them.
December 14, 2015 2:12 p.m.
I'm a little surprised that there's no Ally Encampment and/or Shrine of the Forsaken Gods.

Rayenous I was shocked to see it alongside Horizon Canopy. Also, it's odd they'd print Strip Mine which can destroy any land as well as Wasteland that is strictly worse as it only hits non-basics. At least Dust Bowl is reusable. So yeah, 4 expeditions that destroy lands. And then Tectonic Edge which also requires and the opponent must have 4 lands: so a super strict version of 3 similar cards but clearly the most restrictive and hence worst.
December 14, 2015 3:08 p.m.
Because it's the best land destruction in Legacy. (Strip Mine is banned)

I'm sort of surprised that no one seems to understand why Kor Haven was printed, it fits perfectly into the flavor of the block. The kor of Zendikar are being chased around the plane, and this is their last refuge.
December 14, 2015 5:15 p.m.
I think we understand the flavour of Kor Haven.
It's the fact that in the first Expedition release, flavour wasn't the reason for printing. It was printing more 'sought after' cards as 'collectible' versions. There's really no reason to suddenly print these based on flavour. Sticking to desired cards would have been an all-round better decision.
Even if they wanted some level of flavour, the man-lands would have been a much better choice than most of these.

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #27
Well this is certainly a collectible card, any way you look at it. Honestly, every single one of these cards is going to be sought after (barring the Tectonic Edge) because they're foil expeditions that are only in a small set. And some choices are always going to be disappointing, you have to remember that from an economical standpoint, it probably wouldn't make sense for every expedition to be a super-rare land.
December 14, 2015 7:11 p.m.
There are 2 reasons for a card to be 'sought after'... playability and collectibility.
Sure, all of these Expeditions will be desired by collectors (They could have printed foil blanks with a Wizards TM on it, and it would be collectible)... only some will be desired by players. Kor Haven is not one of them (It will be only marginally sought after more than a foil blank would).
The Tectonic Edge, even with it's uncommon rarity in a number of printings, will have much more long-term value than the Kor Haven because it sees play in various formats, while the Haven does not.

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #29
Except that Haven is a much, much rarer card than Tec Edge. I think that Edge will go for around $20, whereas the Haven will creep towards $30 just because of that rarity. And the fact that it's a beautiful foil with the new art and border will definitely help.
But who knows, time will tell. I'm certainly no finance specialist.
December 14, 2015 7:38 p.m. Edited.
I think you're right... for the first while, that's where the prices will likely hover around.
In time, Tec Edge will rise (due to playability), and Haven will stay still and possibly drop a little, as there will be no demand for it beyond the collectors.
December 14, 2015 7:44 p.m.
I think all non basic lands deserve a chance at receiving an expedition version, regardless of value or usability among formats.
It is a collector thing.

Tectonic Edge gets an Expedition but Grove of the Burnwillows Doesn't? COME ON, grove has only been printed in FUTURE SIGHT, and a FROM THE VAULT, and is a staple in one of the top decks in Legacy and Modern. And they even reprinted Horizon Canopy as an expedition... -_-
Please be a unconfirmed spoiler joke we accidentally took seriously and Grove is actually getting an expedition...

exactly grove got a reprint in FROM THE VAULT ... Horizon Canopy didnt

IzuKorasu and Tectonic Edge got reprinted in commander, goes for less than $2, and made it into a whopping 0.4% of sideboards in modern, for reference Ghost Quarter made 24.9% of maindecks. Also, even with a reprint in From the Vault Grove of the Burnwillows is still the same price as Horizon Canopy, I think Horizon Canopy deserves a reprint for sure, but I feel like Grove was equally if not more deserving, especially since Tectonic Edge is just so bad. I suppose it would be the "budget" expedition, as it sees strictly less play than all of the BFZ dual lands?

Izu_Korasu says... #36
Sure they are collectors items or "players rewards" but they cant all be full art Cryptic Command or Lightning Bolt sometimes they are Flame Javelin or Psionic Blast.
the draw of expeditions is to drive box sales while they powerdown standard and shift into the new rotation, sure it would be nice if they printed cycles (like other legendary lands, or the man-lands, fast lands etc) but they pick and chose lands for the <> upgrade and o well

DemonDragonJ says... #37
The filter lands are very nice, since they have been printed only once, and thus are terribly expensive and long overdue for reprints. However, the rarity of the expeditions will ensure that their monetary price as singles remains high, which is very unfortunate.
As for the others, both Kor Haven and Eye of Ugin make sense from a flavor perspective, but otherwise are lackluster lands, to me. Mana Confluence is still too new, so should have been something else, such as Reflecting Pool, Exotic Orchard, Grand Coliseum, or Meteor Crater, in my mind, and Forbidden Orchard was definitely a waste of card space, in my mind.
The others, however, are all very nice, and all seem to fit the flavor of this block, so I shall not object to opening any of them at the pre-release. The fact that WotC remembered Horizon Canopy renews my hope for full cycles based off the other Future Sight lands, most notably Nimbus Maze.
December 24, 2015 4:08 p.m.
I would have expected to see the scry land cycle; (Temples), but yea, Mana Confluence, Forbidden Orchard, really? Would have liked to see something like Sliver Hive or Cavern of Souls or something...
