Are Contraptions Confirmed on Kaladesh?
From Blogatog:
bassimelwakil asked: IIRC Kaladesh got nicknamed the "awesome set" by you because 1. The set plays Innistrad good 2. The world is one players have really wanted (steampunk it now seems) 3. It solves a long-standing design issue 4. It's bringing back/debuting a mechanic you've been trying to do for ages. Hope I got nothing wrong because that's what I've been expecting (although I thought #2 meant it was an Egyptian or Viking world but Kaladesh is really cool too)
Your recap is good.

do #3 and #4 confirm contraptions? The world fits too!

There's a difference between excitement and being obnoxious, by the way.

No, but being having two consecutive replies in the only three on the thread, just so you could reiterate to everyone the sentiment "pls contraptions," is wholly unnecessary.
If you want to have a serious discussion, give people the impression that you take the discussion seriously.

But to answer the question, no, contraptions are not "confirmed." Confirmation is a definite affirmative statement. People seem to forget that in their excitement.
It's possible. It may even be likely. It won't be confirmed until we get something better than these vagueries, though.

MaRo has said, I believe, that contraptions are a joke and there would never ever be any printed. He answered a question about it in tumblr. He said they had no intention of ever working with contraptions.

I cannot cite anything directly from his blog off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure he has lied to save surprises before.

He has also said that while Contraptions and Riggers were meant to be a joke, he decided to try to make it work once he saw how the fanbase liked the idea.

ChiefBell, I'm a longtime blogatog guy and here is the story:
Steamflogger Boss was originally a joke, but it garnered such popularity that Maro has vowed to solve it before he retires.

MaRo said that he started designing Kaladesh set from the time before Origins was released. I hope contraptions, but think of the other mechanics that would be cool to bring back. Artifact Affinity, Metalcraft... (contraptions would still be the coolest).

How so contraptions work in the first place? Are those the things like Darksteel Garrison?

PistonGolem "cool" is not how I would describe affinity returning.

Atony1400: thats the thing: nobody knows exactly how they would work.

Contraption (cost): put an token into play with these attributes.
This seems like a way to do it that is doable.

I'd like to assume assembling contraptions would be something like an activated ability and I'd assume contraptions would be like tokens

I could see contraptions working along the lines of an ability like
mana cost : assemble X (sacrifice X artifacts and put X 1/1 colorless contraption tokens onto the battlefield)

I always thought contraptions would work differently. Like
Example
, Tap, Assemble X (Roll a 6 sided Die X times, get a token of the type of the roll.)
1- Legendary 1/1 Thopter with flying
2- Legendary 2/2 Artifact Horse
3- Legendary 3/3 Golem
4- Legendary Artifact that can tap for mana
5- Legendary Artifact that taps for damage
6- Legendary Artifact that taps for draw

If you look at Steamflogger Boss it becomes rather clear-ish. Here's my two cents. There'll be creatures with the rigger creature type. These 'riggers' will be able to assemble either a card-specific contraption, or a contraption that is the same throughout all cards. Now, as for the cost and/or trigger, I think that will vary between riggers. One rigger could have an ability that says "Whenever this creature deals damage to an opponent, assemble a contraption." While another could simply say "pay , assemble a contraption. Put X +1/+1 counters on that contraption. Also, non-creature contraptions that just sit there and do a thing are completely plausible.

Dont let our imagination run wild here, I would think these will just be constructed artifacts an equipment.contraption (kn-trpshn) n.A mechanical device; a gadget.

MaRo has stated on Blogatog that Contraptions ARE NOT in Kaladesh. He might be lying, but we just got a set that produces little artifact tokens (clues). They try to steer clear of design overlap like that. They do however, like design synergy in standard so expect cards that reference the number of artifacts you control.

Monsmtg It took awhile of scrolling but I found it. (He calls the mechanic he's finally fixed Mechanic E) http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/144610328663/are-mechanic-e-and-contraptions-the-same-thing

I wouldn't be surprised if we did finally get contraptions MaRo on one of his articles on the mothership stated that R&D was working on making contraptions that would be playable. Seems now that they've succeeded
