Well....
Deflecting Palm -
Instant - Rare
The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage. If damage is prevented this way, Deflecting Palm deals that much damage to that sources controller.
Well.... What do you think?
It can be quite good....
You attack with Zurgo Helmsmasher .
Deflecting Palm. 7 dmg to you!!
Thoughts? :D

It's extremely strong if it's in the right deck or against the right deck. It's very strong in burn against anything but control, and it's very strong against any deck going all-in on something big.

question: do you play this before attacker is declared or in the damage step after blockers declared ?

Not sideboard. Mainboard. Burn just gained a sweet new toy. It loses a few other spells at rotation, so we'll have to see if anything else gets printed to keep burn in the game.

You can cast it whenever the hell you want. The effect lasts an entire turn. It's most advantageous to cast it right after attackers are declared.

I would love to cast this in response to a Fanatic of Mogis trigger.
September 8, 2014 11:21 a.m.
Would this be strong enough to see Modern Burn play? :D

I think it's time to pick up Burn. As much as I hate that deck. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I want to see this cast in response to Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
's annihilator trigger.
"I lose my stuff. You die."

@NobodyPicksBulbasaur I was thinking the same thing!

I like it...
Wish it was in different colors though.

Average use dictates this to be a sideboard card. Good sideboard card, though.
September 8, 2014 11:42 a.m.
this reminds me of Eye for an Eye + Reverse Damage sorta, from the classic days if anybody remembers them

wow, i used Eye for an Eye quite a bit back in the day.

I really like this for hating midrange decks...or Voltron decks in general.
September 8, 2014 1:02 p.m.
Glorified fog. Way too niche to do anything. In burn this is seriously way too conditional. Leaving 2 mana open "just in case?" Nah. There's always something more reliable.

This could be good sideboard tech in modern against Ad Nauseum and Scapeshift shift decks.

Leaving mana open in burn is just fine. Hold mana for this spell, but if nothing happens, Lightning Strike ? Seems legit.
September 8, 2014 1:27 p.m.
Oh shit...this does get around hexproof, doesn't it? But..but Sigarda :(

Aaaaaand now it's in my zurgo edh. Tutorably instant killing of commanders...

Not only is the art on this card bad ass the more i think about it the more i want to make a build around this.
September 8, 2014 8:49 p.m.
Vampire, how does this kill a commander?
And Ghost, why play a possible-face-burn spell over just more straight damage?

I had completely missed the whole, you know, bones coming out of the hand thing before I saw it blown up here. I wonder if they asked the artist to tone down the violence, cause honestly I think there would be more blood if your bones were snapping and tearing through your flesh, aaaaah!

BorosPlayer says... #34
Looks more black because the flesh is just falling off.

@Jp3ngu1nb0y because against almost every deck it's still going to be a burn spell. But it also helps stabilize you, and can do much more than 3 damage against at least 50% of decks.
September 9, 2014 5:49 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #36
Simple misread sorry. It will do severe damage to that commanders owner though
September 9, 2014 6:03 p.m.
Quadsimotto says... #37
I like it because you could have someone trying for that turn four win with a pumped up double striking fabled hero and watch it just blow up in their face. Then meh' a little old magma jet to finish the job during your turn.

I fail to see why stapling conditional burn onto Pay No Heed is appealing. If this did 3 damage to an opponent and had the prevention clause it'd be a staple. That would allow it to be used proactively and effectively.

MindAblaze says... #39
There are lots of niche situations where it's really good, there are going to be times when it's underwhelming, but even a two mana shock that saves you two damage to the head could be worse. I would like to see it against Robots in response to Cranial Plating activations.

The art says, "Bitch, please!"
I could see American Control in Modern sideboarding it. The 'a source of your choice' and 'deals damage' narrows it's playability, though. For instance, you couldn't use it against Tendrils of Agony . You could, however, make a Storm player who dropped a Grapeshot or Goblin Charbelcher flip a table.

vexingozar says... #42
does it redirect infect? and if damage is dealt simultaneously by attacking creatures can it do million damage against for example Splinter Twin ?
September 9, 2014 9:12 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #43
It's only a source so twin combo still kills you as does storm due to them killing you with lots of small sources. You'll reverse kill he infect guy assuming they're attacking with one beefed guy
September 9, 2014 9:15 p.m.
MindAblaze says... #44
Nope, unfortunately that doesn't work because the source becomes Deflecting Palm, so it no longer has infect.
September 9, 2014 9:30 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #45
Yep you're right. Still likely that the infect player spent a bunch of life on fetch lands and spells anyways so that ten or so should kill them
September 9, 2014 9:33 p.m.
vexingozar says... #46
this is worth taking for a test run. in a burn deck it goes around hexproof, lifelink and as VampireArmy said - infect. Also great in mirror, hits your opponent with their own Tarmogoyf
and yes leaving mana open when your hand is full of instants IS a very logical survival trait - burn CAN bluff. you only have to sideboard it out for control Splinter Twin
and passably any kind of weenie decks. But I'll definitely give it a try.
September 9, 2014 9:40 p.m.
vexingozar says... #47
and i just realized it does works around protection to - it doesn't target and doesn't do damage to protected creature:)
September 9, 2014 9:46 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #48
Id stick it in the side board. Burn has enough main board action and you don't need any potential dead cards but bring it in vs tron, mirror, infect, any stompy deck and it'll have good targets

Has no one seen the subtle synergy between Deflecting Palm + Eidolon of the Great Revel ? It is only a matter of time before we can see if this synergy actually matters at all.
September 10, 2014 2:36 a.m.
VampireArmy says... #50
So prevent its damage...So that it can be redirected to you anyways?
