So, we'll be getting some spoilers soon and I know a lot of people are hyped for some expensive reprints and super cool alternate extended arts. What's everyone's guesses as to what's in the set? I'm speculating that
Imperial Seal and Capture of Jingzhou will be featured in the set alongside all of the commanders from 2016. I expect it to loaded with commander staples and have exceptional EV.

Doesn't matter to me, as long as a pack is $16.00 or more i'm not buying it lol

Honestly it feels like a rip off, but Im interested in seeing if they do some high value reprints, like the Praetors. Honestly one thing they could definitely reprint is Bribery and lower the cost on that.
July 2, 2020 9:08 p.m.
I think that they're going to really play up the "double" gimmick. Brothers Yamazaki, Desolation Twin, Double Negative, Evil Twin, Splinter Twin, Twins of Maurer Estate

I would like to see Concordant Crossroads, Worldly Tutor, and a couple other cards

concordant crossroads is the shit! i also agree on the visions tutors... and thoughtseize

I already made a thread about this set, so this thread is redundant, and I also shall not repeat my speculations from that thread, to save time.
tpmains, that would not surprise me, but the "double" in the name of this set refers to the fact that the set overall shall contain approximately double the number of rares that a "normal" set would have and also the fact that each booster pack shall contain two rares, rather than the normal single rare.
July 6, 2020 5:49 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #10
davidsays1, I fully agree with you about Worldly Tutor, as it is the only card from its cycle that has not been reprinted, recently.
tpmains, what about Doubling Cube? That card would be perfect in this set.

tpmains, to continue the idea of variants of Clone, I would like to see Altered Ego, Progenitor Mimic, and Phyrexian Metamorph reprinted in this set, since they are all awesome cards.

DeinoStinkus I would hate for the dragon lords to take up a rare slot. Maybe downshift to uncommon. I'm assuming you mean the really old one's right?it would be cool for pauper edh.

In an article, today, WotC revealed that the set would contain full-art basic lands, and I do think that that is some very nice artwork that those lands shall have.
On a less positive note, here is a video from Tolarian Community College in which the professor laments the high price of this product, and I very much agree with him, so I will purchase only singles from it, not sealed products, because I will not support such a flagrant display of greed by WotC.
I may have already said this, but I very much wish to see both Akroma's Memorial and Vedalken Orrery reprinted in this set, to help keep their prices low, although Commander Legends is likely a better set for those cards.
Reflecting Pool definitely needs another reprint, because it is far too expensive, and the ally-colored filterlands from Shadowmoor also very much need to be reprinted for that same reason. Meteor Crater is not terribly expensive, but I would like to see it printed in the modern card frame.

DeinoStinkus sadly those probably wont ever be uncommons lol...and at 16 dollars a pack I would hate that XD theres probably a better place for them to be reprinted.

also, DemonDragonJ though I'm not the biggest fan of the price of masters products I've never been disappointed with what i've pulled from them. I typically get them at the msrp that they use to be when they had msrp. The 100 dollar a pack thing...well I'm just assuming the bulk of that price is from the 2 box toppers in each pack. People were paying like 35-50 bucks for the ultimate masters ones.

I may have mentioned these cards, before, but I think that the reflection cycle from Shadowmoor (i.e., Boon Reflection, Wound Reflection, and so forth), would be perfect for this set, as would Furnace of Rath.
RNR_Gaming, why is Imperial Seal such a desired card when Vampiric Tutor is strictly better than it? Is it for the redundancy?
July 19, 2020 9:44 a.m.
RNR_Gaming says... #17
DemonDragonJ that's definitely part of it. Even at sorcery speed looking for any card and placing it on top is powerful. With an abundance of ways to draw in edh the card may as well just go to your hand; theres also setting up miracles and just the rarity from having such a tiny print run making it desirable to collectors.

While I'd like to see reprints of Fiendish Duo and Akroma's Memorial, if this set is indeed stuffed with high value reprints, I am going to be angry. The price point is too damn high for the set to ease card prices. I am tired of WotC taking advantage of it's player base. This is blatant price gouging during normal times and extremely insensitive during an economic crisis.

Now that previews have begun in full, I am glad to see that at least two cards of the boon cycle are being reprinted (with nice new artwork, as well); hopefully, the other three shall be reprinted, also.
Further reprints of Dark Confidant and Wurmcoil Engine are welcome, as well, to help keep them affordable, since they are such great cards that are in high demand.
July 20, 2020 12:12 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #21
Forgive the double post, but a new previews was revealed after I submitted my previous post.
Breya, Etherium Shaper being reprinted has me hoping that all five of the four-colored generals from Commander 2016 shall be reprinted, because I would like to have Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis with the new legendary card frame.
Karn Liberated is another wonderful reprint, because he is such an awesome card, and I do appreciate the Urza lands being reprinted, but why is WotC reprinting them when the loci (i.e., Cloudpost and Glimmerpost) are superior to them?

I suppose that I should not be surprised that Jace, the Mind Sculptor is being reprinted in this set, but I still would rather that WotC had reprinted another planeswalker; at least he shall be less expensive, now.
Another reprint of Baleful Strix is great, but I wish that it had been an uncommon, because it is a waste of a rare spot in this set, in my mind. On that subject, I do like how Sharuum the Hegemon has been downgraded to a rare for this set, since I believe that she was not sufficiently powerful to be a mythic rare.
The alternate artwork for Sword of War and Peace is awesome, but I would rather have had any of the other swords in its place; hopefully, they shall also be reprinted in this set.
Sculpting Steel is another very nice reprint; I had been hoping for a reprint of Phyrexian Metamorph, but this is very close to that.
I also very much like the reprint of Lux Cannon; I already have one in my Atraxa EDH deck, but this shall make it easier to obtain a foil copy, which would be very nice.

In contrast to ultimate masters this set is starting off weak lol. I still have high hopes but I dont like that there is a chance of crap in a box topper pack.

DemonDragonJ says... #25
RNR_Gaming, I am sorry to hear you say that; which particular cards disappoint you, thus far?

Urza lands and strux being upticked to rare and all the 5 dollar or less rares that are gunna eat up slots. Wurmcoil is borderline.
July 20, 2020 11:36 p.m.
RNR_Gaming says... #28
Yes but it was an uncommon in both commander and planechase. oh and DeinoStinkus that jace art isnt new lol it was from the mythic edition war of the spark thing.

It is very nice to see further reprints of Sneak Attack, Noble Hierarch, and Voice of Resurgence, to keep their prices low, but I would like to have seen new artwork for those cards.
Another reprint of Austere Command is very nice, so I do hope that the other cards in that cycle are reprinted, as well.
I am very displeased that Cyclonic Rift is being reprinted because that card is such a miserable card when one is affected by it; why must WotC reprint such a blatantly overpowered card?
July 21, 2020 12:38 p.m.
I’m hoping tomorrow includes any of the following: Worldly Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal or Force of Will. The rest of the sword cycle would also be nice, and fetches would break the set, but we can still wish.
July 21, 2020 4:05 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #31
Further reprints of Thespian's Stage and Dark Depths are very nice, and the fact that WotC is also reprinting Vampire Hexmage in this set makes it clear that WotC wishes for players to be able to summon Marit Lage without excessive difficulty.

DemonDragonJ says... #32
Yes! It is so nice to see new artwork by Thomas M. Baxa, as he was always one of my favorites artists who illustrated for WotC, due to his very distinctive art style. I was worried that WotC was no longer commissioning artwork from him, given that they have not had new artwork from such great artists are Rebecca Guay or Steve Argyle in some time, and that they are no longer working with either Terese Nielsen or Noah Bradley, but I am very glad to see that new artwork. I do not wish to complain, but I would rather have had a reprint of Damnation, since that card needs a reprint far more severely than does Wrath of God, and it also would have suited Baxa’s art style far better, but it is still nice to see new artwork from him.
This set containing Path to Exile is not a surprise, but I would have preferred Swords to Plowshares, or at least new artwork on PtE, since that artwork has been used far too often, in my mind.

Further reprints of both Meddling Mage and Vengevine are nice, because they were becoming expensive, but I really wish that Vengevine had been downgraded to a rare, because it is occupying a mythic spot in this set that could be occupied by a better card. How does it make any sense for Sharuum to be downgraded, but not Vengevine, especially since sundering titan is only a regular rare? Also, on that subject, Sneak Attack being a mythic rare is definitely a waste of a mythic spot, as well; why was it not a regular rare?
July 22, 2020 4:42 p.m.
RNR_Gaming says... #34
Most things have certain rarity due to the draft environment. Though I'm not sure about the exact break down having Sneak Attack at rare would be super busted especially with blightsteel and skittles in the set
July 22, 2020 5:47 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #35
DeinoStinkus, "Skittles" is a nickname for Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, which I feel does not make sense, because, following his name, I would say that his nickname should be "Skithles."
Also, the fact that Sneak Attack was a mythic rare in Iconic Masters does not mean that it needs to be in this set; if Sharuum was downgraded, why not sneak attack, as well?

A 4 mana thing that let's you cheat out big chonks for 1 red and smack people with em has a higher ceiling than a 6 mana 5/5 flyer that reanimates artifacts; don't get me wrong both are bombs but to play the sphinx you need to commit to 3 colors in a draft environment; which is possible but there are far more draw backs.

The allied-colored filter lands from Shadowmoor are being reprinted! This set continues to improve!
July 22, 2020 6:46 p.m.
I feel pretty confident that the spoiler of rolling earthquake today is a very strong sign that imperial seal is going to be in this set. The P3K door has been opened and now it’s time for the guest of honor to walk through the door.

I'll be able to justify my preorder to the girlfriend if it gets a reprint. Fingers crossed

A reprint of sword of fire and ice is very nice, as is the alternate artwork, and I can say the same for Phyrexian metamorph, as well, especially since the alternate version of that card has another piece of new artwork by Thomas M. Baxa! This set is so awesome, thus far!
Why has ensnaring bridge been upgraded to a mythic rare? It should have remained as a normal rare, and it now is occupying a mythic spot that could have been given to a better card.
DeinoStinkus, yes, I am very pleased about that, especially the new artwork!
RNR_Gaming, does your girlfriend play this game?
July 23, 2020 12:27 p.m.
jethstriker says... #41
I think the main reason is that prison type cards, such as Ensnaring Bridge and Trinisphere, are terrible cards to play against in a limited environment. Placing them in mythic rarity is a way to reduce their appearance in boxes. If I remember correctly this was mentioned in a WotC article some time ago. Just that I don't remember the title and the author.

DemonDragonJ she plays but casually. she works at a game store so it can be a bit of an overload.
July 23, 2020 8:28 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #43
jethstriker, that does make sense, but I do hope that WotC is seeking to appeal to players who build their own decks as much as they appeal to people playing in limited environments.
RNR_Gaming, that is very nice; none of my previous girlfriends have been major fans of "nerdy" hobbies (such as Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: the Gathering, and so forth), so I hope that any future girlfriend whom I have is fond of such pastime.
July 23, 2020 10:13 p.m.

Another reprint of Land Tax is very nice, but, again, I am displeased that it was upgraded to a mythic rare; why is WotC doing that?
July 24, 2020 12:12 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #45
Braids, Conjurer Adept has never been reprinted, before, so I shall be glad to have a version of her with the newer wording and card frame, and, perhaps now, I shall be able to afford a foil version of her.
At this point, it does not seem likely that Akroma's Memorial, Vedalken Orrery, or Riku of Two Reflections shall be reprinted in this set, which is unfortunate, since they all are expensive, but I shall remain hopeful that they may be reprinted in Commander Legends, later, this year.
July 25, 2020 9:46 a.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #46
Stoneforge Mystic is being reprinted in this set! I currently am not interested in that card, but I know that it is a very popular card, so I am certain that many players shall be pleased with that.
July 25, 2020 11:34 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #47
Mana Reflection is being reprinted, which now means that three out of the five cards in the reflection cycle shall be in this set; I am maintaining hope for the final two.
Reprints of both Sen Triplets and Archangel of Thune are very welcome, as those cards currently are both close to $30 in price, and I also will be glad to have a copy of the triplets with the new wording and frame.
I am not at all pleased that Blood Moon is being reprinted, again, because of how horribly oppressive that card is; non-basic lands are a staple in many decks, so a card that renders them useless is certain to draw great amounts of hatred from all other players in the game. At least the alternate art for that card looks very impressive.
Basalt Monolith being reprinted is very nice, and I am glad that it was kept as an uncommon, rather than wasting a rare spot on it. On that subject, Goblin Guide really should have been downgraded to an uncommon and Avenger of Zendikar should have been downgraded to a rare, since both of those cards are occupying spaces that could be better used for other cards.
July 27, 2020 12:45 p.m.
DemonDragonJ says... #48
Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Hanna, Ship's Navigator being reprinted are two more excellent additions, especially the new artwork on each card. Why has Hanna had the same flavor text despite having had three different portraits?
I cannot believe that WotC I wasting a rare spot on Ravenous Trap; how could they do that? It was originally an uncommon worth no more than fifty cents! At least Savageborn Hydra was downgraded from a mythic rare to a regular rare.
