New card spoiled

Spootyone says... #2

Huh...equipped creature taps to pray and give tribute, I suppose? I'm not quite sure what to think of this card for any constructed format. At first glance it seems far too expensive.

Zurnic says... #3

I guess you could play a creature turn 3, drop this turn 4, and then equip and activate turn 5?

August 22, 2014 3:29 p.m.

Spootyone says... #4

I guess...That still seems really bad, though. You simply can't play this in an aggressive deck because of it's high setup cost and the fact that it neuters one of your creatures. And in decks who wish to go longer there are so many better things to be doing with all that mana. The only place I'd consider running this is limited, and I can't even figure out how to use it "well" there...

August 22, 2014 3:32 p.m.

Spootyone says... #5

Edit: This would go decently in my Karametra EDH deck. Besides that...yeah, idk man.

August 22, 2014 3:35 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #6

4 drop artifact that does nothing the turn it comes out. 3 mana to equip, still does nothing. Additional 2 mana to actually do something, and relies on the equipped creature having high power and other creatures to actually benefit. Not happening.

August 22, 2014 3:36 p.m.

Spootyone says... #7

Fulcrum: You forgot "prevents one creature from ever attacking while equipped." You know...because it needed a drawback to keep it from being OP.

August 22, 2014 3:37 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #8

It could be almost kind of decent in Kemba, Kha Regent because she makes tokens and gets relatively high power from all the equipments, but I think I'd rather just play something like Sword of Fire and Ice and, you know, win.

August 22, 2014 3:39 p.m.

Spootyone says... #9

Fulcrum: Winning is quite a powerful Magic: the Get-together technique.

August 22, 2014 3:43 p.m.

All I know is that it will be a lot of fun to play in a Zurgo Helmsmasher EDH. I would much rather attack with a Horde of +7/+7 Tramplers that one 7/2. It also keeps him from having to attack each turn... huh almost seems like it was made for him :)

This card is also dripping with flavor, the commander sits on his throne empowering his soldiers... love the flavor.

August 22, 2014 3:55 p.m.

weisemanjohn says... #11

I see this working well equipped to a monsteroused Hydra Broodmaster as you already have enough mana to play and use it, you have a ton of strong creatures and now you make them huge and have trample. This seat is a game finisher that I like!

August 22, 2014 4:12 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #12

To me, this card seems terrible. It's Legendary (strike 1), it's expensive to play (strike 2), requires even more mana to do something (strike 3), and its effectiveness depends on the creature it's attached to (strike 4). Why is this card a rare? I mean, I know they've gotta print some bad rares, but this seems bad even in limited.

"What once soared high above Takir is now reduced to a shittacular card"

August 22, 2014 4:34 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #14

It's rare so you don't see it that often in limited.

Probably will only see play in bad edh decks. It is pretty juicy flavor-wise though.

August 22, 2014 4:41 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #15

@Mindblaze It will be like opening up a Whims of the Fates in a draft. You just let out a sigh and mark the "Drop" column.

August 22, 2014 4:54 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #16

Right you are MindAblaze!.

You would not want to see this card at common or uncommon in limited. All rarities are pretty much defined by limited after all.

Also: EW BAD IMAGE.

I'm not using that image for our database.

abenz419 says... #21

i can see what the card does and the potential it can have if set up and unanswered but it's requires so much to get going that it's inherently slow. The format is slower than it used to be, but not that slow. It's a nice idea with some flavor but obviously the card was designed more for limited play than constructed.

August 22, 2014 6:01 p.m.

maiden77 says... #22

This is an awesome card for EDH. Flavour, check, cheap to cast (in EDH terms), check, makes epic plays possible, check. This thing will land in token decks so hard and fast it won't even be funny. Not competitive maybe, but that term isn't for EDH, it will make some huge ass token armies hit hard and it will slot into Karrthus decks nicely too, 6 13/13 dragons with trample and one tapped is better than 6 6/6 dragons and 1 7/7 none with trample, and if its a dragon deck, this thing belongs in there anyways! So looking forward to the rest of the dragon flavoured stuff in this set! :-)

Vieno says... #23

I want to use this card so badly for one simple reason. I want to win with giant Elvish Mystic s and Kiora's Follower s.

August 22, 2014 6:05 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #24

The flavor is good. An individual bows before the Dragon Throne, the dragon imbues that person's allies with the might of a dragon. Simple. And it could work alright in a midrange build to get rid of those pesky mana fixers you have no use for?

August 22, 2014 6:06 p.m.

I really hope that the rest of Khans doesn't look like this. I'll be out of Standard for another block if that's the case.

August 22, 2014 6:15 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #26

aeonstoremyliver - don't let the door hit you on the way out. Because this card is hardly representative of the whole block.

August 22, 2014 6:20 p.m.

Way to be an Uthden Troll there JWiley129!!!

August 22, 2014 6:23 p.m.

capriom85 says... #28

Can't wait to play this on Nylea, God of the Hunt .

August 22, 2014 6:42 p.m.

Osang says... #29

They have to appeal to the casual crowd too, right? Somehow it reminds me of Door of Destinies and Obelisk of Urd .

August 22, 2014 6:46 p.m.

capriom85 says... #30

Door of Destinies saw competitive play. In a green devotion deck this can easily be played and used in a single turn.

August 22, 2014 6:49 p.m.

The creature should not have to tap. Ability should be activated by mana and restricted to only once a turn or triggering at combat like Xenagos, God of Revels .

TexasDice says... #32

Limited Booooooomb...

August 22, 2014 6:57 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #33

The ability is a bit too powerful to be able to be pushed, especially on an Equipment. We saw what can happen with cards like Stoneforge Mystic & equipments. Anyways, 4 to play and 3 to equip is a bit out of the range for competitive constructed applications, but the ability is powerful. Even putting it on a 1/1 will yield good results when activated. It's going to be good in Limited, especially in a Mardu deck if they are as "Go Wide!" as I think they'll be. I don't think it's a Bomb, but it's definitely close.

August 22, 2014 7:02 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #34

You guys remember Godsend ? Ya, neither does anyone else. Way better Equipment that sees no play. Granted, it requires white to play it, but still.

August 22, 2014 7:52 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #35

I wouldnt say Godsend is necessarily better. They're not really comparable. This is a win condition, Godsend is like a Meddling Mage with its stick removed.

August 22, 2014 7:58 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #36

It screams token edh guya

August 22, 2014 8:54 p.m.

I quite like this card. cool flavor, neat interaction with Zurgo (and appropriate given that he's the person sitting on the throne in the art)

like yeah it's expensive but it basically lets you cast Overwhelming Stampede every turn for 2 and tap. Like, tbh, that is an effect that should not be pushed for standard, especially with Xenagod still running around.

August 22, 2014 9:08 p.m.

slovakattack says... #38

I don't see this card being particularly useful in Modern, sadly. It's neat, but if you have the butt-ton of mana required to effectively use this, why not Craterhoof Behemoth instead?

If you don't, then Sword of Fire and Ice or even better, Batterskull is a better win con.

Come on Khans of Tarkir spoilers, show me a card that I actually want to play.

August 22, 2014 11:48 p.m.

I don't know but it can be an easy monster for EDH decks, especially ones that lack color options for Overrun based effects. I know that a Kresh the Bloodbraided deck can get millage out of a card like this.

Maybe for standard slap it on a Sliver Hivelord and bring the pain?

August 23, 2014 12:38 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #42

I really wish we could all just agree that this is a terrible card and be done with it.

August 23, 2014 4:55 a.m.

sylvannos says... #44

@TexasDice: LOL. Things feel edgy, don't they?

Anywho, as TexasDice said, Limited bomb. Even if I equip it to my 1/1, now my 2/2s and 3/3s are bigger than your 2/2s and 3/3s and can trade up with your 4/4s. And it gives trample?

This card is an Overrun . It does everything I want out of a Limited bomb. If I'm losing, I catch up to my opponent by at least forcing a stalemate until I can get ahead. If I'm ahead, my opponent just loses the first time I attack with this. It gets even more nuts if Khans has something like Raise the Alarm or Thallid .

As far as Constructed goes, unplayable.

August 23, 2014 5:13 a.m.

trentfaris242 says... #45

I don't quite understand how it's a limited bomb. I would hate to top deck this mid to late game. You have to drop 9 mana for a very weak effect.

August 23, 2014 9:48 a.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #46

9 mana for an incredibly strong effect my friend. weak if you use it.

August 23, 2014 9:57 a.m.

trentfaris242 says... #47

How is that an incredibly strong effect?? It's 100% dependent on your creatures and if you're behind enough on the board state, it does literally nothing. Nothing. It's a bad win-more card.

August 23, 2014 10:41 a.m.

This is okay for limited, not a true bomb. Requires a developed board state and can't win on its own.

August 23, 2014 10:44 a.m.

sylvannos says... #49

@trentfaris242: Overrun does nothing on an empty board state, but you should first pick the shit out of it. Effects that pump all your guys and give them trample are just bonkers in Limited.

While Throne isn't as good as Overrun (R&D realizes how strong it is in Limited), it's on-par with Biomass Mutation and Overwhelm . Turning all of your 1/1s into 2/2s can threaten lethal and force your opponent to block unfavorably. More importantly, you get to do it every turn.

August 23, 2014 1:31 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #50

Giving your stuff +x/+x and trample is a strong effect. Especially repeatedly and in any color deck.

Paying 9 (total) mana and having a creature you can afford to not attack with are pretty steep costs to make it work though. I wouldnt say "win more." More like "stalemate breaker."
