New card spoiled

Having +X/+X and trample is great, if X ISNT dependant on a creature you control. For this card to really be a "bomb", you've got to already have something decent on the board (which is why I said win-more; at the very least it breaks stalemates). Turning all your 1/1s (which in limited is rarely a high number) into 2/2s is completely useless if you can't do anything with them. And on top of that it's NINE mana. That's terrible. Way, way worse than Overrun .

@trentfaris242: Depends on the format on how many 1/1s you might have. In RtR Limited, it's a really small number and the format is dependent on Grizzly Bears . Theros Limited is similar, where you're trying to load up on as many enchantments as possible to get heroic triggers.

If Khans is like Modern Masters or M15, then having a bunch of guys out all at once doesn't seem unreasonable. I wouldn't brush this card off as bad in Limited until we know what the environment looks like in Khans.

trentfaris242 - You don't necessarily need a huge creature to equip it to. On a bear it will give your entire team +2/+2 and trample. You know how Sanctified charge is pretty much a limited bomb right now... well this equipment for what is an additional 4 mana set up, will allow you to do a similar effect every turn. There is good reason this has such a high mana cost, overrun on a stick is freaking nuts. You don't even need it to be offensive, you can use it defensively to stalemate your opponents creatures from smacking into your small creatures.

As for constructed, I too want to dismiss it but, given I can legitimately dump 30 mana into Polukranos this effect may be a little more playable than meets the eye.

As sylvannos has pointed out, we don't know the cards playability until we know the rest of the set. Either way, in a limited environment I will first pick this card more than likely. If you want to pass it to me, even better.

You can equip this to a Colossus of Akros or a Hornet Queen in magical christmas land. That should win you more. If there are any token strategies in KTK, I might also first pick this.

I laugh when I see people say "It's bad because it's mana!"

Sure, by the time you use it for the first time, you've paid ... but from there on in, it only costs . - So, use it twice, and it's only .5 mana... 3 times is .3 mana.

It's only real downfall is that at the initial CMC it does nothing to the board state... (no many equipment develops the board state when cast).
So, what ends up happening is that your T4 is spent on simply casting this, and T5 is spent on equipping and activating.
- In Constructed, that is a 2-turn investment into something they can see coming, and should have an answer to.... So, not playable in Constructed.
- In Limited, it is a 2-turn investment into something they can see coming... but will have a low chance of appropriately answering... so Playable in Limited, but should be sided out when you know they are likely to have answers because 2 turns is a lot to waste on something ineffective.

So, just reading the release notes, and came across this:

"* The value of X is determined as the activated ability resolves. If the equipped creature isnt on the battlefield at that time, use its power the last time it was on the battlefield to determine the value of X. If that power was negative, other creatures you control will lose power and toughness. For example, if the equipped creature was 2/2 and a spell gave it -5/-5 in response to Dragon Throne of Tarkirs activated ability, other creatures you control would get -3/-3 until end of turn."

Casting a Blinding Spray in response to a Dragon Throne activation could be deadly. Wow.

"I'll activate my Dragon Throne on my 3/3, making all of my 2/2s into 5/5 tramplers!"

"In response, all your 2/2s are dead"
