Abzan just got a new toy

FatherLiir says... #5

This might top out Abzan midrange curves, give your siege rhinos and whipped creatures an extra 2/2? Yes!

slovakattack says... #6

I feel like it should have had Bolster 3. 2 Just seems... ehn.

Spreading buffs across multiple creatures makes this thing very hard to deal with. As soon as it attacks it creates new threats. I am unsure whether bolster 3/3 would have been too problematic, or not. Hard to decide. In general though, things that make other stuff better are really good because they don't just 'die to removal' - they create whole new problems.

ChiefBell says... #8

sorry, bolster 3, not bolster 3/3

Servo_Token says... #9

Soo... 5 color dragons, then, yeah? If they're all going to have these multi-dragon triggers, then why not?

Also, Scion of the Ur-Dragon just keeps getting better and better as a commander.

slovakattack says... #10

While that is true, bear in mind that what he has is NOT an ETB effect, which is extremely limiting. Sure, it's crazy if you have a horde of dragons... but if you have a horde of dragons, you've either won, or whatever is stopping them from winning you the game does not care if you put more 1/1 counters on em.

December 31, 2014 11:15 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #11

I understand. But playing this onto a board with a 1/1 mana dork creates problems when you swing for 8 the next turn. He's somewhat like Pack Rat maybe? You answer this now or you slowly die.

Can someone translate that flavor text, pretty please? :-) My German is terrible.

December 31, 2014 11:24 a.m.

I haven't really figured out how I feel about him. 5/5 flyer for 5 is always solid though.

The curse of numerous weapons, each a failed attempt to slay them

is what the flavor text is FatherLiir

supermill says... #15

Through this flavor text, maybe we were just introduced to a new dragon? I don't really know what colors he would be though. Maybe U/B or U/W

December 31, 2014 11:34 a.m.

asasinater13 says... #16

that flavor text is probably from a human trying to kill the dragon, or other nondragon sentient.

The only thoughts I have on him/her so far is 'Thank god Kalia can't use him/her'

December 31, 2014 11:39 a.m.

supermill Dahgatar is more likely the Abzan Khan.

That would make a lot more sense Rasta_Viking29 , I'm just kind of dying here waiting for them to spoil the U/W and U/B dragons

His ability is really similar to Anafenza, the Foremost. It's just a little weirder to work around since there aren't a large amount of dragons in those colors and since you can't pick what the +1/+1 counters go on. But it still gives more +1/+1 counters than her and is able to make things a lot harder to remove once you have a field of whatever g/w creatures there are. I like it.

I bet he sees plenty of play though

ZooGambler says... #22

Naya Dragons with Stormbreath, ramp by Generator Servant (but probably the traditional rampers like Elvish Mystic) grab a trigger then two seems pretty good. Bolster is also good with High Sentinels of Arashin I hope the Sentinels find a deck to call themselves a staple in.

I'm so excited to play GW mid at some point again. OR naya. OR bant. We will see :)

I think I like it. It seems boring, but powerful.

TheHroth says... #25

5/5 flier at 5cmc is never bad. Awesome actually. While the ability isn't amazing, it certainly does make the card better. Making a Siege Rhino or Courser of Kruphix bigger is never bad.

December 31, 2014 2:07 p.m.

dbpunk says... #26

Imagin this in play with Mirror Entity and about 3 to 4 other dragons or changelings. Should be fun.

APPLE01DOJ says... #27

I'll SB 1-2 in my / Aggro deck to test with but I don't think it's all that great. It's too vanilla & the artwork is unimpressive.

BorosPlayer says... #28

Interesting how all the dragons (so far at least) have slightly modified watermarks from the clans in their colors. This one looks almost exactly like Abzan except with streaks on the top and bottom. Probably a reference to how the clans were based themselves off dragons.

December 31, 2014 2:27 p.m.

So if you were playing Naya and played Dromoka turn 5 and Stormbreath Dragon turn 6 and then attack with no other creatures in play Dromoka pumps himself 2x? Hit for 13?

If so I'm on board.

December 31, 2014 2:30 p.m.

TheHroth says... #30

You'd swing for 13, but with a 6/6 Stormbreath Dragon (from first Bolster trigger) and a 7/7 Dromoka.

Bolster doesn't target, so Stormbreath would still get +1/+1 counters from Dromoka's triggers.

December 31, 2014 2:34 p.m.

Your right it says choose. Guess I should read the card. That's even better.

December 31, 2014 3:08 p.m.

TheHroth says... #32

Haha yeah it is! :p

December 31, 2014 3:13 p.m.

I reserve the right to be wrong but I'm like 99.42% sure that's not how Bolster will work. It's just one trigger, checks just once for the toughness, and then adds whatever number of counters at that point.

December 31, 2014 4:49 p.m.

And Stormbreath is a second dragon causing a second trigger. idiot face

Don't mind me, I'm still hungover

December 31, 2014 4:55 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #35

But Freddy, each of the clan dragons says "whenever A dragon attacks. ..", so for this case it DOES work that way.

December 31, 2014 4:56 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #36

Definitely does. Otherwise the card would be much less effective.

December 31, 2014 5:15 p.m.

You're absolutely right and I need to work on that whole "reading the entire text" thing lol. Sorry about that :o Think these will give Crucible of Fire a boost? Or is that just getting greedy?

December 31, 2014 5:26 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #38

I don't hate the idea of a Naya deck using this guy, Stormbreath Dragon and Crucible of Fire, but I'm not 100% sure on viability

December 31, 2014 6:31 p.m.

dbpunk says... #39

You know what would be great and really fitting this set? Colorless dragons that are reminiscent of Ugin. That way, all the legendary dragons would be really viable.

December 31, 2014 6:37 p.m.

You could do it with white being more of a splash, the caryatid / courser / Xenagos (PW) opening, GW Ajani for some dig, Sarkhan for another dragon / the utility... lots of potential good stuff
