I don't think there is one yet, at least not one posted recently. If there is, feel free to correct me.

It is not a new type. Pure Reflection and Spirit Mirror both use it.

The_Redpill says... #2

But... Gatherer lied to me!

It's still the only nontoken Reflection, though

June 28, 2016 4:44 a.m.

Boza says... #3

It could have been an Illusion. Reflection is a weird choice.

I dislike a bit the bodyless Venser, Shaper Savant we got, seems weird, though he was quite abusable comapred to a simple spell.

Basically a remand reprint. But instead of drawing a card, this one got a modal creature bounce, which makes it more versatile.

Get your foil playset now, this gonna be standard staple.

June 28, 2016 5:26 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #5

Remand does two things at once. This does one. If it returned a spell to hand AND bounced a creature then it would be a remand-esque card. As it is right now it just seems good and efficiently costed but not great.

June 28, 2016 5:28 a.m.

Boza says... #6

The best comparison is by far Venser, Shaper Savant - it has the same text but you lose on the body to gain 2 less CMC.

I actually don't know what to make of that it almost seems like a Bloodline Keeper  Flip for wizards which is odd.

June 28, 2016 6:54 a.m.

Guftders says... #10

Whoa gotta get me some Unsubstantiates XD Docent looks decent too (at least better than Aberrant Researcher  Flip)

June 28, 2016 7:14 a.m.

Punderstorm says... #11

I think Emrakul's Influence is too slow to really have a solid impact on a game, even in EDH. It's just too narrow an ability. I do like Docet of Perfection though. Maybe it's time for me to finally build a Wizard tribal or Instants/Sorceries matter type EDH.

June 28, 2016 7:17 a.m.

Boza says... #12

Docent goes right into my Zegana Prime Speaker EDH Wizard Tribal and holy smokes, that is an incredibly strong card in Limited.

June 28, 2016 7:21 a.m. Edited.

Bovine073 says... #13

Ohhhh the flavor oh the flavor on that Docent of Perfection! It's perfect. Who's the commander that taps wizards to draw cards? I see this as a possibility.

June 28, 2016 7:32 a.m.

PistonGolem says... #14

I believe that commander is Azami, Lady of Scrolls. The color aligns perfectly.

June 28, 2016 7:40 a.m.

Zaueski says... #15

Can I just point out the art on Emrakul's Influence? I love how Chandra is facing one direction amd Gideon, Jace, and Nissa are all facing another lol Like Chandra can cover one side but it takes everyone else to cover another xD

June 28, 2016 8:18 a.m.

Sloanan says... #16

Don't know if anyone has seen this, but here's Thalia's actual non-promo art. Thalia's actual art.

Significantly better, I think...

June 28, 2016 8:35 a.m.

Docent is going to be a limited bomb.

June 28, 2016 8:36 a.m.

I know I'm a wee bit late to the party on this, but I'm digging the full Lovecraftian horror flavour we have going on here. This, more than anything else, is awesome. I'm less pleased that everything is now an Eldrazi and I'm not a fan of Meld, it seems cumbersome.

June 28, 2016 9:28 a.m.

Dang. I just realized that the new Thalia completely shuts down Sneak Attack in legacy. Why did I pick Sneak & Show as my legacy deck?.... :(

June 28, 2016 10:05 a.m.

Rayenous says... #20

Docent... seems fun, but there's too much flavour fail.

It's a "Horror Insect" on main face, but flips and becomes "Eldrazi Insect"? - Really... it stops being a 'Horror" when it becomes Eldrazi?

It's a transform card, that is a Horror, and cares about Instant/Sorcery spells you cast (sound familiar...?) - But it doesn't play well with the other card like it in the Block (Thing in the Ice  Flip). - On it's flip side, it should be an Eldrazi Horror, and it should create Wizard Horror tokens on both sides... or at least the flip side.

Wizard tribal in Standard.

What year is it again?

June 28, 2016 10:25 a.m.

TMBRLZ says... #22

Also - if we're just talking about creatures, Blind Obedience > New Thalia.

June 28, 2016 10:28 a.m.

TobyG says... #23

What do people think about the flipability of brisela in standard? The way i see it is that you play bruna, get back gisela, and then even if they have an anguished unmaking or stasis snare or grasp, you get 1 of the 2 for free. If they don't, you practically win. The only removal played in standard that can kill brisela is ob nixilis. Wow, i am hyped to play W/B midrange sith these 2 + ever after.

June 28, 2016 10:31 a.m.

TMBRLZ says... #24

Which is why I specifically said "if we're just talking about creatures"

Useable in Soul-Sisters type of deck?

June 28, 2016 10:41 a.m.

Lone Rider//It That Rides as One seems good... Rayenous are you saying Modern playable? It seems possible.

June 28, 2016 10:45 a.m.

Nice flavor text too

June 28, 2016 10:46 a.m.

TMBRLZ says... #28

I see the value, but Ajani's Pridemate remains a better two drop.

June 28, 2016 10:46 a.m.

Kravian says... #29

At this point I almost wish they'd made Docent/Iteration legendary, because at this point in the story we've come far enough to consider him a who. He's had as long of a story arc as Thalia, Gisela, or Geralf.

June 28, 2016 10:54 a.m.

nobu_the_bard says... #30

So actual question: I haven't been following the actual posted stories too closely. Does the Insect Horror Wizard guy actually appear in the stories?

There's your story. Notice the chaining of creature types and names.

nobu_the_bard says... #32

@TMBRLZ, yeah I know he's been on several cards now. I just assumed, since he went unnamed, he was just a little sidestory they were playing out in the cards. But I see so much talk about him, I was wondering if they printed an actual story with him.

June 28, 2016 11:06 a.m.

TobyG says... #33

Wait... was it a thing back on zendikar that emrakul could literally turn things into eldrazi? I mean, i know it corrupted things, but i didnt think it actaully just made things eldrazi

June 28, 2016 11:07 a.m.

Ayy, Delver of Secrets  Flip evolves once again. Ironically, it's original version is still more powerful XD.

June 28, 2016 11:13 a.m.

A new pseudo-Accumulated Knowledge!!

and a new pseudo-Flame Burst!

June 28, 2016 11:20 a.m.

Rayenous says... #36

Accumulated Knowledge... turned Sorcery.

Flame Burst... one cheaper... can't hit players. (They could have at least added 'or Planeswalker'.... nope. Creature only.)

Both look only at your own graveyard, not each of them.

Could be useable in Limited, I guess... if you end up getting about 3+ of any one of them.

One thing is for sure... NOT designed for EDH. :-)

June 28, 2016 11:30 a.m. Edited.

Reaxetion says... #37

Deckologist: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn has protection from spells. Once a creature is on the battlefield it is a permanent instead of a spell and can affect it.

EDIT:

OOPS! I just realized that there was another entire page of posts. I am sorry!!

June 28, 2016 11:48 a.m. Edited.

Guftders says... #38

Blue's actually looking a lot better in standard now:

Unsubstantiate- Modal spell of Remand without draw, and Unsummon

Take Inventory- 2 cmc spell that can draw up to 4 cards.

Might actually get into standard if White doesn't become too dominant.

June 28, 2016 11:54 a.m.

HankHanklerfish

I have heard people calling this lovely pair "Hank and the Hanklerfish".
Also, ELDRAZI FISH! Set gets 10/10 from me for having both an "Eldrazi reflection" and an "Eldrazi Fish".

June 28, 2016 12:06 p.m.

nobu_the_bard says... #40

Flame Burst? Hadn't seen that before; my first thought was Kindle. Must have been from the period I wasn't playing. Looks like they're about the same though.

Unsubstantiate doesn't cantrip like Remand. Won't that mean it is a lot less useful?

Still no real cool green cards. The ones so far have been sort of typical green stuff.

June 28, 2016 12:11 p.m. Edited.

shinobigarth says... #41

does that dude actually turn into the fish?

June 28, 2016 12:12 p.m.

Rayenous says... #42

I can't see 'Take Inventory' being played in Standard. 2CMC cycle is too slow... 2CMC draw 2 is barely adequate... 2CMC draw 3 is where it's finally 'good'. You have wasted so much energy into this by this point that you've probably lost or are at least behind a lot.

If it were Instant speed, so you could use it at EoT when you happen to have mana up, it would be okay. At Sorcery speed, it's quite horrible.

I'm also not fond of 'Unsubstantiate' in constructed. Tempo cards like this are very hard to find a good deck for. It may see some play, but still won't be playable on it's own because of cards like this... it still needs permanent removal to work with it, otherwise the tempo will eventually grind to a halt.

June 28, 2016 12:14 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #43

As a blue player, [Unsubstantiate] is a dream! But having connections to the other colors and knowing how blue has always been one of the best colors if not the best color in commander, getting a 2-drop counterspell that can counter uncounterable spells is horribly unfair. Meh, c'est la vie.

June 28, 2016 12:48 p.m.

smackjack says... #47

Lone Rider//It That Rides as One might be a new soul sisters staple. 2 mana 4/4 first strike, trample, lifelink. It will flip pretty easy in a soul sisters shell.

Ive been waiting for a human to replace the cat. Could this be the one? making the deck more humans opens up for more tribal synergy..

June 28, 2016 12:50 p.m.
