I don't think there is one yet, at least not one posted recently. If there is, feel free to correct me.
How fast can Affinity discard itself?
Otherwise it can serve as plan B for a 8Rack, as someone said before, or as a watchdog (pun intended) for a Brain in a Jar style deck

At this point, Ludevic deserves his own card. If the things he creates are this powerful, just imagine how powerful the man himself is!

"Eldritch Evolution" AW MAN. They made Birthing Pod again for standard! YEAAAAAAA I know it's closer to Natural Order because it's a non-permanent and sorcery speed but this is BUSTED. 2+? Is magic even trying to even the color pie? This card is super busted, just like pod was. This card is super pushed. Will see modern, even eternal, guaranteed.

Affinity doesn't discard, it just dumps its hand by Turn 2-3. not sure if it does that consistently enough to have this guy though (holding stuff, not incapable).
June 30, 2016 12:52 p.m. Edited.
ducttapedeckbox so it seems better as alternate win con in 8rack or UR than as winmore in a super aggro format.

Oh man. I may have to start splashing green and such into my mono black Devotion modern deck. Put in some abrupt decay and maybe Eldritch Evolution. I could sac Relentless Dead and maybe return something from the grave to get me a Phyrexian Obliterator, or sac Geralf's Messenger for Gray Merchant of Asphodel, while getting the undying damage from messenger. Hell, sac Gravecrawler into a messenger is stupid enough. And I play Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip so if she's on the board at the time I evolve... Yeah I need green in that deck.

In fact, could someone leave some suggestions to help splash green for evolution?

Whispers of Emrakul
Target discards one card at random or two if you have delerium.
Delerium Hymn to Tourach!
June 30, 2016 1:19 p.m.
It's a strictly better Hymn to Tourach if you have Delirium...
Why is the power level of this set so high?
June 30, 2016 1:25 p.m.
Eternal Scourge + Food Chain is going to end up in a lot of decks..
Lupine Werewolf has my favorite art of the set. It looks like a hybrid between art from World of Warcraft and the Force of Will TCG and to me that is a very good thing.
Also I hope they do design a Ludevic P-Walker, and preferably one that costs U/B (Dimir) or U/B (Dimir)U/B (Dimir). I am done subscribing to the theory that we only need one P-Walker of each color all the time. Let us keep our Ashiok, Liliana, Jace, Sorin, Ob-Nixilis, and give us a Ludevic to!
June 30, 2016 1:30 p.m.
JDMCRIB In the sense it costs 1B instead of BB, definitely. Otherwise identical. Since mono-black isn't likely to be viable here but delerium is basically impossible to hit on turn 1, it's a complicated side grade to Hymn.
June 30, 2016 1:34 p.m.
Modern legal version of Hymn to Tourach!
T1: Fetch land, Thoughtseize
T2: Hangarback Walker, X=0... it dies. Land, then this with Delirium.
June 30, 2016 1:47 p.m.
Is trying to force it on T2 really worth it? I mean Hangarback Walker is probably better on the board no?
June 30, 2016 1:49 p.m.
Okay... using Hangar back this way is not the best thing to do...
But this will be easy to get on T3... even in Standard it can be done with little to no difficulty.
And even if you do it for only one card, it's still random. So it can still kill an opening hand by hitting land.
June 30, 2016 1:51 p.m. Edited.
I would argue that this card is better hand when your opponent only has 2-3 cards in hand. Especially decks that require multiple pieces to really put you in a hurt (like Affinity/Robots).
June 30, 2016 1:52 p.m.
Better yet...
T1: Fetch, Burning Inquiry (or Faithless Looting)
T2: This.
T1: Fetch, Bolt, Probe, cycle Street Wraith
T2: This.
There are lots of reasonable ways for this to work easily in Modern.
June 30, 2016 1:55 p.m. Edited.
That new land works with Spirit of the Labyrinth. Make them discard on their turn while you loot seems good to me.
June 30, 2016 1:55 p.m.
It's actually not as good as hymn in most instances because its impossible to get delirium T2 in any reasonable deck. Modern would struggle to even do T3.
June 30, 2016 2:12 p.m.
It won't be as good as Hymn when you need it to be, but it's the closest thing we're ever gonna get to it in Modern/Standard.
June 30, 2016 2:19 p.m.
Ok....two things since I have been reading these comments since the cards were revealed today. 1. NOTHING is EVER strictly better. Done end of story. K. 2. The new evolution card is interesting but not broken and not even that insane. In standard you dont really have anything that takes effect of the dying or of the effect BUT you do have the advantage of not having a lot of counter spells running around to fuck you up. In modern you do have the advantage of the small creature and big creature thing but if they counter this thing you probably just lose the game.
June 30, 2016 2:26 p.m.
EmblemMan, Lightning Bolt is strictly better than Shock. I understand what you're trying to say but there are a lot of cards that are strictly better than others.
June 30, 2016 2:46 p.m.
Livingham thats not really true though because they arent comparable they dont deal the same amount of damage. So yes obviously a card can be better than another card but one card compared to another that does the same thing cannot be strictly better.
June 30, 2016 2:49 p.m.
@ChiefBell, I've seen plenty of decks use Thought Scour and/or a dredge effect on themselves and pull off delirium with a crack of a fetch. I'm sure any deck that uses Rise/Fall could find a use for it just to improve the consistency of that card. Also as someone mentioned earlier Faithless Looting works well too. I don't believe delirium is that hard to pull off if your deck purposely aims for pulling off, and there may be more cards in this set that make that keyword more worth that pay off.
Also I'm surprised Skulk is back again. I thought they wouldn't continue it like investigate. I hope it can become evergreen. Skulk feels so natural as a keyword, but I don't see how they might continue it thematically in other sets.
June 30, 2016 2:49 p.m.
Which is why I said in any reasonable deck. There are plenty of unreasonable decks out there that force delve and force delirium. It's just that theyre not very good, most of them.
June 30, 2016 2:52 p.m.
Also its still not strictly better because in a situation where you play both lightning bolt and shock if you were to cast shock and they counter it then it was better to have the shock in that situation because you have an extra damage to draw later.
June 30, 2016 2:53 p.m.
TheCouchPotato says... #38
I think he's trying to say that there are always situations where the card that is better 99.99% of the time is worse. Such as if your opponent Mindslavers you while you are at three and have Lightning Bolt in hand, in which case you'd rather have Shock in hand.
June 30, 2016 2:55 p.m.
Grapple with the Past
Instant
Put the top three cards of your Library into your graveyard, then you may return a creature or land card to your hand.
This actually seems really useful, I like it lol nice reuser for fetches, instant speed and im not seeing too much to hate
June 30, 2016 3:01 p.m.
yeah grappple with the past seems great especially at instant speed

shinobigarth says... #42
That's just not true. Bolt is strictly better then Shock. Only difference is 3 damage instead of 2. The strictly better argument is if you were playing a Shock playset, you should replace it with Bolt if you don't have it in there already.

I'm gonna have to buy some Eternal Scourges to replace my Misthollow Griffins in my recurring exile deck. SHAMELESS PLUG GOES HERE: Azorius Recycling Committee.
June 30, 2016 3:16 p.m.
@ shinobigarth - It's like you didn't even read what he said but replied anyways.
If I mindslaver you and your at 3 life your going to wish that Lightning Bolt was a shock. And before you go on about "yeah but that's in a specific scenario" let me just say that's the point.
June 30, 2016 3:21 p.m.
Pretty much any "strictly better" argument goes out the window because mindslaver exists.
June 30, 2016 3:32 p.m.
I don't like the 'strictly better debate'... but I have to add this.
Some strange, unlikely situation, that is irrelevant when comparing cards does not prevent a card from being 'Strictly better'.
If someone Mindslaver's me, and kills me with my own Lightning Bolt while I was at 3 life... remember that they were able to kill me BECAUSE Lightning Bolt is better than Shock.
(You can reply about this post if you like... please don't tag me, I won't be replying further. The debate should not be in a spoiler forum, and I don't want people drawing my attention to it.)
June 30, 2016 3:32 p.m.
Okay... this strictly better argument is strictly pointless.
You're arguing hypotheticals, opinions, and semantics.
No need to start butting heads boys.

Because Affinity needed a 2 mana 5/5...
