I don't think there is one yet, at least not one posted recently. If there is, feel free to correct me.

With Modern being thrown to the curb on the tournament circuit; it would make sense for WoTC to focus on Limited/Standard in their future sets

It might be easier to list what isn't good for the Standard environment that they're focusing on as AgentGreen pointed out. Delirium is finally turning into a good deck, Vampires received the last couple pieces they needed to actually make an impact. Im still holding out hope for werewolves but theyre not quite there yet. Zombies is now so close to being a deck. Burn has suffered a lot lately so much so the the sorcery speed 3 damage spell is definitely a step in the right direction. Eternal Scourge is retardedly good. Nephalia Academy is stupid powerful. We got a fixed Hymn to Tourach, and thats barely even touching on the sets mechanics. Yes Meld is super easy to counter and stop, but Emerge is an amazing mechanic that is going to see a lot of play. There is a ton for Standard players to get seriously hyped for. And yes the other formats matter, but Wizards makes most of its money off of Standard players, especially since there is no more modern tournament on the big scale. So Standard is what matters to them amd by that mark they've more than succeeded.

Mythic oncoming!

Grim Flayer

BG

Creature - Human Warrior (Mythic)

Trample

Whenever Grim Flayer deals combat damage to a player, look at the top three cards of your library. Put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest back on top of your library in any order.

Delirium - Grim Falyer gets +2/+2 as long as there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard.

2/2

Card is very strong in Delirium matters decks.

Delirium is definitely a thing now. Hell I'll probably run one myself lol

Are they though? They get a couple of cards, but they are far from THERE. Being THERE means that the random tribal deck will have game against humans, GW tokens, GR Ramp, GB Control and CoCo decks. The answer to that is a resounding no, despite adding some tribal cards to the mix.

Grim flayer is a great card but being a 2/2 severly limits it against Sylvan Advocate also the whole deal combat damage is just kind of hard again against things like advocate.

July 5, 2016 9:34 a.m.

EmblemMan

I'm sorry, but it's pretty screwed up that standard is dealing with "beefstick can't tangle with 'goyf, ergo is worthless" problem.

July 5, 2016 9:46 a.m.

snotice says... #12

Well, goyf is silly broken.

July 5, 2016 9:48 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #13

Worthless is a strong word, but Sylvan Advocate is kind of Standard's Goyf.

July 5, 2016 9:50 a.m.

EmblemMan says... #14

I did not say that the card is worthless but I am saying that it SEVERELY limits the card because sylvan advocate is one of the most played cards in standard.

July 5, 2016 9:53 a.m.

Argy says... #15

I would classify myself as a Standard player.

There are some interesting spoilers being released but I can understand why some players are a bit underwhelmed by the set.

I think that's because it's following the amazingly good SOI expansion.

July 5, 2016 9:54 a.m.

Sorry, didn't phrase that well.

Cards with 4 toughness are viable in modern. Just look at Kalitas.

But because of 'goyf, 4/5 is the bar for any midrange creature and those that come in under that have to be exceptionally good to see play, simply because they can't tangle with goyfs.

It feels like a significant design failing on the part of WotC that allowed a similar problem to exist in standard

July 5, 2016 9:58 a.m.

For being a mythic with a saturated mana cost and a buffing ability that doesn't turn on from just playing the game, I would have expected the Delirium to be +3/+3. I guess Delirium turns on naturally in a deck designed for it, but pretty much any deck can hit 6 lands effortlessly.

'Goyf is a really good card in Modern and nearly any deck that runs green will run it. Advocate is a really good card in Standard but decks look to green just to run it (among other cards). There's a big difference between 'Goyf in 15% of competitive decks and Advocate in 40%, in Modern and Standard respectively. I wish there were more options to deal or compete with it.

Zaueski says... #18

Advocate isn't hard to deal with, and with the new Grim Flayer, I can make him a 4/4 before your sixth land drop. Just because he isn't a 2/3 doesn't mean he isnt a beast lol

July 5, 2016 10:01 a.m.

Zaueski says... #19

Plus most decks that run Advocate arent black as well. Delirium now has Murder to get rid of him. Along with the newly printed Gnarlwood Dryad. Inexorable Blob is a massive token generator and Delirium is a really good mechanic that just needed one or two more things for the early game to make it shine. And for the late game it gets Mindwrack Demon. Trust me, this deck won't be worried about Advocate at all. Especially come September when literally every card that makes those decks so back breaking rotates out

July 5, 2016 10:07 a.m.

EmblemMan says... #20

Its not the fact that advocate is going to block him for 6 turns its the fact that his ability wont ever hit so you have to use additional cards to get him to his deliruim but the reason you want to play him is because of his ability and it being in a sense self sustaining. He is supposed to buff himself that is why he is good but you cant do that when advocate is on the table.

Zada, Hedron Grinder on steroids!

Opponent: "I'll cast Devour in Flames to kill your Dragon... and I guess I'll deal 5 damage to each creature I control. :-("

You: "In response, I'll cast Titan's Strength, to give all my creatures +3/+1, and scry 1 for each creature I control. :-)"

This has the usual problem that powerful/fun blue cards always seem to have... can not be consistantly relied upon.

I will say though... could be used as an odd finisher in a mono- control shell. - As it's not a creature, your opponent will often not have a reliable answer to this.

July 5, 2016 10:55 a.m.

Deckologist says... #25

Wait. So if I cast a kill spell that targets an opponents mirrorwing dragon I have to copy it for every creature that I control? That's kinda cool. I'll cast expedite on your dragon copy it for my creatures and draw 3-5 cards for 1 mana

July 5, 2016 11 a.m.

------ says... #26

That dragon is nuts. The self protection may make it a thing in standard. Like, try to remove it, it's most likely gonna stay on the field for a while. Last dragon who did that was Ojutai, and that guy had quite some price tag on him.

Black-Green is the new aggro now.

Turn1: Gnarlwood Dryad

Turn2: Grim Flayer

Turn3: Mournwillow

Is it just me, or does the amount of craprares and crapmythicis increase with every new set? They generally print way to much rares nowadays, it's like 70% rares&mythics vs. 30% commons&uncommons.

Wut?

So what happens when this hits a Planeswalker creature like Gideon or any other temporary creature type like Gargoyles?

July 5, 2016 3:47 p.m.

Permeating Mass may be my favorite spoiled card of the set so far. It is always fun to troll opponents with goofy creatures, and its a one-drop that demands removal to boot!

Mirrorwing Dragon is giving me the itch to reform my Atarka Dragons deck back during Dragons of Tarkir. It could sit nicely in the Stormbreath Dragon slot, plus it and Thunderbreak Regent could be best friends for protecting fellow dragons...

July 5, 2016 3:49 p.m.

TMBRLZ I believe that planeswalker becomes a copy of permeating mass. That is, it loses all planeswalker-y things and becomes a 1/3 spirit with a troll ability.

Can't wait to vial one in to block a mutavault :)
