The card isn't very good. It doesn't feel powerful enough given its a world destroyer. Deliri-delve doesn't make much sense. And it's not even that powerful. It's off both from a flavour point of view AND power level. It's good but it's not emrakul.

June 21, 2016 5:11 a.m.

And we're not paying anything. It's not spoiler season yet.

The thing annoying me is the fact that Nahiri was able to call an Eldrazi titan by... Driving things insane? They better go into detail.

This, while not a spoiler, is probably worth seeing.

PepsiAddicted says... #6

She reformed parts of the plane to summon her. the usual stuff. Cryptholite magic or w/e. The spreading crazyness comes from emrakul herself i guess?

M.T.G says... #7

If you read the storyline, it said something about Emrakul making an Eldrazi angel (Whom I will call Gisela-Bruna for now), Could that be another mythic or rare in the set?

June 21, 2016 6:33 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #8

But Emrakul wasn't on the plane until now. I guess Nahiri was just warping everything to make it suitable for Emrakul, the people included.

But more importantly: What does Avacyn have to do with any of this? Wizards seriously can't expect me to believe that she would defeat Emrakul if it invaded before her demise, or that she was doing anything to stop Nahiri beforehand.

I suppose Wizards just had to ignore all the plot holes so this shoddy story could happen. I'm not complaining about the block, just the story. Wizards better explain it through some cards or URs :/

Eldrazi angels going right into my mad angels EDH deck.

June 21, 2016 7:04 a.m.

@DarkLaw

Avacyn act as a deterrent for Innistrad against outside force, kinda like what Helvault does, thus Emrakewl can only enter the plane when Avacyn is gone

June 21, 2016 7:23 a.m.

Ok this is what I'm getting from the storyline. Nahiri is mad that Sorin let the Eldrazi destroy her plane, Zendikar, so she wants revenge. She beckons Emrakul to Innistrad, Sorin's own plane, to destroy it. Emrakul is the Titan of corruption, so even his presence should be able to fuck things up (weird things going on in Innistrad.) Gisela-Bruna was probably not created, but corrupted by Emrakul herself, Nahiri is not capable of having Emrakul's powers right?

June 21, 2016 7:35 a.m.

Boza says... #12

Do not forget that Nahiri was also locked in the helvault for about 1000 years. That would make you quite pissed. Also, she does not know that Zendikar was saved.

June 21, 2016 7:38 a.m.

Rayenous says... #13

A lot of things don't make sense... but they had to bend/stretch a lot of concepts in order to allow the block to keep the flavour that has previously been established for both Innistrad and the Eldrazi.

Eldrazi Angels..? Sure... but why did we not see any on Zendikar prior to this?

Nahiri can summon/lure Emrakul...? I guess she technically did help summon/lure them to Zendikar the first time, but it took 3 Planeswalkers 40 years to create a Hedron Network which acted as both the lure and the trap... and it could only be done due to the size of Zendikar and the mass amounts of mana it contained (Innistrad is much smaller and has less mana)... I guess she's gotten more powerful in 6000 years... but if she's that powerful, she should have one-shotted Sorin in his weakened state during their battle.

June 21, 2016 7:40 a.m. Edited.

DarkLaw says... #14

Even Nahiri not actually properly checking Zendikar makes no sense. She's obviously intelligent enough to create hedron traps and other stuff like that. She's smarter than Koth and Chandra. So why is she the only one acting upon seeing planes destroyed by destroying more planes for revenge? Assuming Zendikar is doomed is no excuse because Koth is mono-red and knows that Mirrodin is doomed, but he doesn't care. He still fights for the mirrans.

In hindsight, I can see Avacyn with exactly one function: ironically keeping everything sane (before Emrakul comes along and corrupts her too). But that doesn't explain how she was merely a lesser evil keeping a greater evil in check, as Maro pretty much said. Nahiri was clearly doing whatever she was doing without any interference.

Jace/Gideon/Chandra/Nissa won't die (they're the first of the Magic Justice League, they won't die on their second mission). After, I would be very happy if WotC stuck on Cthulu and doesn't make Emrakul die... (but well, we saw a badass Lili fronting Emrakul alone so... crap).

June 21, 2016 9:01 a.m.

------ says... #17

Stuff makes total sense.

Sorin actually put half of his power in Avacyn and created repelling barriers around Innistrad. But Nahiri, who got imprisoned into the helvault by Sorin for 1000 years, twisted all the leylines of the Plane to make the Angels mad. After Sorin ended Mad Avacyn, all the barriers and the cursebane were also removed, so Nahiri could lure Emrakul to Innistrad. That said, Nahiri actually took Emrakul with her when she left Zendikar, and Emrakul just sat in the blind eternities, waiting for the feast that Nahiri promissed her, waiting for Nahiri to remove the barriers around Innistrad. (That's why the card's named "promissed end") And whamo, Nahiris initial madness caused by twisting and warping the leylines of Innistrad gets overwriten by the madness that fricking Emrakul brings.Pretty concluent.

StopShot says... #18

@ Boza, ChiefBell, Can I have the link that states when spoiler season starts please? I was not able to find it for this season.

June 21, 2016 10:37 a.m.

StopShot spoiler season always starts 2 weeks before the pre-release (which occurs on July 16th-17th), so next week fits the bill.

Also, my understanding was that Emrakul's presence could be felt before she even entered a plane, so if she was "nearby" in the blind eternities she could begin to corrupt the minds of the plane's denizens.

And as people said before, Avacyn, though crazy, acted as a ward for Innistrad, hence why she needed to die to allow Emrakul to arrive.

Lastly, I don't find it odd that Nahiri would see a continent completely obliterated and immediately go off to seek revenge without checking the rest of the plane. First, we don't know exactly when this occurred, but it was most likely before the PW superfriends arrived to save the plane, so from her perspective Zendikar was doomed. Also, her character personality strikes me as the type of person who wouldn't be level-headed enough to take pause and check out the rest of the plain after the outrage of seeing all the destruction. She is much more like Chandra in her emotional impulses driving her.

June 21, 2016 12:07 p.m.

Is there a detailed explanation about how Emrakul did this to Bruna and Gisela?

June 21, 2016 12:10 p.m.

Shill says... #21

I am pretty sure that Nahiri used the cryptolyths to focus all the mana of the plane to a single point. This is the drownyard temple and is rich in the mana that eldrazi like to consume. Emrakul was drawn to this point and was trying to pass through the planar barrier to enter the world and consume the mana.

This explains why jace or whoever was there thought there was something the size of the moon just out of sight. She was right there, but beyond the boundary. This boundary was protected by Avacyn's power and it wasnt until she was destroyed that Emrakul could enter the world.

It was the fact that she was so close to the world, but seperated that was driving everything insane. Nahiri just set everything in motion.

I would have rather had Nahiri meet some powerful demons in the Helvault and get corrupted by them. Then upon release plot with them to kill Avacyn and destroy the plane. Would have made sense with Ormanhdal etc in Shadows. I feel like although the story makes some sense, it just wasnt what I wanted to have right now.

June 21, 2016 12:13 p.m.

What if Eldritch Moon isn't actually a reference to Emrakul, but something else that will be a major part of the story in this set?

June 21, 2016 12:26 p.m.

KingTorg1 says... #23

It could be like the 5th sun!! Emrakul is rampaging Innistrad, when Tamio is like: "What the **** is that new moon doing there?"

June 21, 2016 12:41 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #24

Chandra just took an oath to protect the multiverse, and is the go-to example of an impulsive planeswalker nowadays. Nahiri doesn't have much wiggle room here. She is part white and is very intelligent, judging by her achievements. Her not defending Zendikar against a very imprison-able, if not killable, threat is just lazy story writing. A small band of planeswalkers were able to do 1/3 of what her's took 40 years in a matter of days. Zendikar has excellent chances of survival. All that, and Nahiri's only excuse is a momentary burst of emotion? Nice try, Wizards.

June 21, 2016 12:41 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #25

I mean, acting out of spite is not outside of white's color pie; Heliod betrayed Elspeth out of jealousy and spite. From Nahiri's perspective, the cats were out of the bag and no sofa was safe. Ugin wasn't back on Zendikar yet (Jace finds him repairing the Eye of Ugin, and Nahiri found it in shambles), Sorin wasn't going to help her, and she had no idea that four planeswalkers, including an Animist that could use every ounce of mana on Zendikar as a weapon and a mind mage that knows the secrets of her hedron network, were on the case. She was also, as was heavily discussed in the BFZ story, trying to preserve the Eldrazi on Ugin's behest, not kill them.

Was she irrational? Yes. Was it out of flavor? Not really.

@Vergil_Redgrail: I think Nahiri (after being forced by Sorin) will use the moon to contain Emrakul the same way the Helvault contained her. This appeases Nahriri's revenge (she got it), Sorin (Innistrad is safe), and Ugin (the Eldrazi is imprisoned, not dead).

June 21, 2016 1:38 p.m. Edited.

DarkLaw says... #26

Ruffigan I agree with all of your points. In fact, they further my own arguments.

1) Nahiri doesn't need to be red. This is pretty much a mono-white villain at its finest.

2) Nahiri somehow managed to overlook the distinct and considerable chance that people such as Ugin might try to defend Zendikar, and feasibly succeed.

3) As a result of 2), Nahiri is either insane/irrational or written by lazy story writers.

In fact, you also raise an additional great idea. After being told how stupid she is and that Zendikar is safe, she may realise what she's done and put it right by imprisoning the titan.

I can see something like this:

Oath of Liliana: 2

Legendary enchantment

When it enters the battlefield, exile target creature from gy, put 2/2 zombie token. Whenever a PW enters the battlefield, draw a card and lose 1 life

You mess with my hood, you gonna get some

Weak, I know, but could be the last one of the Origins-Gatewatch cycle

Regarding wether or not Nahiri's actions are out of character for a Walker; I feel this is accurate to Nahiri's Character:

  • She knows how to lure Eldrazi to a Plane.
  • She wants the Eldrazi off of Zendikar. (Regardless of Zendikar's current condition, she would want them off.)
  • If she can't/won't kill the Titans the quickest way to be rid of them is to lure them to another Plane.
  • Which Plane is the only question remaining... which is where her emotion/vengeance comes in, and why she chose Innistrad.
June 21, 2016 2:32 p.m.

Rayenous says... #30

I don't know why, but I'm thinking there should be a Legendary DFC creature which is okay on it's front side... but also has madness. And "If ~ would enter the battlefield, if it's madness cost was paid, it enters the battlefield transformed instead." - On it's 2nd face it would be some colorless Eldrazi Horror.

The name on the second side would be the same as the front, except with "~, Summoned by Madness".

June 21, 2016 2:39 p.m.

_Delta_ says... #31

Hopefully Rayenous the set gives more cards relevant to horror creatures like Thing in the Ice  Flip.

Eldrazi Horror, I like that, it would make for a good creature name.

June 21, 2016 2:48 p.m.

Rayenous says... #32

Yup... I think the creature I described would just tie in the whole block nicely... also make it a Vampire on the front side, and give it some Delirium ability on the flip side. :)

JKLawson89 says... #33

Spirits don't have souls, minds, physical forms, so I doubt they can be controlled or mutated or anything of the sort.

The main spirit in the lore is Geist of Saint Traft, who is leading the humans not corrupted, as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben meets up with him after Odric, Lunarch Marshal breaks out of a church of Avacyn with her.

Sigarda, Heron's Grace is presumed uncorrupted and helping the uncorrupted humans.

We know Sorin, Grim Nemesis asked for help Call the Bloodline, and Olivia, Mobilized for War he already knew what was coming.

I think Thing in the Ice  Flip threw everyone off a bit, thinking it was Merit Lage.

The weird part that hasn't been answered for me even knowing Emrakul is the Shadow Over Innistrad, is who is this ancient god that used to be worshipped on Innistrad.

The demons want revenge on Sorin, but know that Lilly is out there decimating Demons, Ormendahl is being worshipped again, Lilly loosens the shackles of her demon pact, but the veil is worse that's why Kothophed, Soul Hoarder urged and begged her not to use it.

Ludvic is helping Geralf and Lilly.

Gissa is helping Nahiri.

Jace is fetching the Gatewatch.

Tamiyo is recording everything.

The moon is made of Silver and we know Nahiri can't control it, maybe that's Innistrad's new protection.

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded is looking for revenge on Sorin too, maybe Devils and Fiends get involved in this giant war for Innistrad.

June 21, 2016 3:18 p.m.

Rayenous says... #34

...If you manage to cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and "Emrakul, the Promised End" on the same turn... you control your opponent during their next turn... but they skip that turn... then they take an extra turn.

(I know, it's worded as 'you take an extra turn', not 'they skip their next turn'... but it would be funny if they interacted this way.)

In reality, you would take an extra turn, then they take their normal turn (controlled by you), then they take an extra turn.

June 21, 2016 3:43 p.m.

AgentGreen says... #35

Don't think we're going to see an Oath of Liliana. Doesn't seem like her to join the Gatewatch. They want to protect the mulitverse. Liliana doesn't give two shits about it so long as she can get rid of her curse

June 21, 2016 3:54 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #36

Rayenous Thing is, Emrakul wasn't on Zendikar. It left before the events of BFZ. So Nahiri's doing it entirely out of 'vengeance'.

That token is sick as hell. Do want.

Legendary werewolf is disappointing. Though maybe if you get some flicker stuff going you can get a lot of +4 boosts. Xenagos still seems better for that kind of thing in EDH, though. Still, I can totally see some G/R ETB shenanigans with it, pity it just doesn't really support werewolves.

PistonGolem says... #40

I wonder, will all the creatures be Eldrazi or Horrors? I mean, Emrakul is corrupting them, so you would think they would be Eldrazi, but we have creatures like Scourge Wolf and the fact that the last tribe that needs a buff in standard is the Eldrazi, we might just have another PT Oath on our hands.

June 21, 2016 7:15 p.m.

June 21, 2016 10:05 p.m.

That card look sweet! It's probably an enchant land on the other side? The card # is too low to be an actual land and there is no P/T for the other side so it isn't a creature. Maybe something like "enchant target land. sacrifice this land and flip ..."
