So apparently the next Dual Decks will be Elspeth vs Kiora.

Will post a more reputable source when I find one.
I was betting on Ashiok vs Kiora myself (at least I got Kiora right) but I'm stoked that Elspeth, Sun's Champion will become more available

Though this is what i expected, i really don't get it from a logistics standpoint. like what possible reason would these 2 have to be fighting. Did Elspeth kill one of Kiora's pets or something?

"Trading on local legends, she created one for herself, borrowing identities as needed as she amassed power. One such facade she adopted was that of Callephe, the legendary mariner said to have sailed into Nyx itself. It was this lie that brought her path across that of Ajani Goldmane and Elspeth Tirel. The pair sought out Callephe for her skills, trusting her able to bring them to the Temple of Mystery, the ancient tree at the edge of the world.Kiora agreed to do so, but for purposes she wasn't forthcoming about, dismissing it with a wall of good cheer. She led them along for the ride as she pursued her own agenda, never letting it slip that she was not who she said she was. The truth finally came out shortly after they set off, as Kiora brought them to the sunken city of Arixmethes. It was no city at all, in truth, but a massive kraken upon whom a city had been built. Thassa would not allow Kiora to take the beast from her, but first assisted Elspeth and Ajani in their journey. The pair taken care of, she turned her attentions to Kiora." Apparently, kiora tricked elspeth.

So what modern staple is going to be included in here? Any guesses?
November 1, 2014 11:33 p.m.
It doesn't make any sense, lore-wise. In the ebook, the only adversary Kiora fought was Thassa after Arixmethes arose. This needs to be justified lore-wise, because Kiora didn't fight either Elspeth or Ajani.
My theory: Somehow Elspeth gets brought back and wants to make Kiora pay for tricking her.
Otherwise...the conflict makes zero sense and it might as well be Kiora vs. Thassa.

I hope they find a way to include Damnation i-i
Just stick one in behind the decks, do anything, just give us the damn(ation) card!
November 2, 2014 12:02 a.m.
I bet on Snapcaster for the usual chase card. Maybe even alt-art, to make it fit better into Kiora's waterpark.

reprint guesses for Kiora deck Remand again because idk Courser of Kruphix because they alt art it and print money Sylvan Caryatid because god dammit i need them I doubt Snapcaster Mage but hell if they do then damn lol

Elspeth is somewhere around $25 and Kiora is about $12
The MSRP for Duel Decks is $19.99
I doubt we get anything more that a Path to Exile or a Counterspell

Awesome! I'm super happy with this. Hoping for at least a few modern cards, but it's worth it just for the walkers to me.

Hey look! Alternate planeswalker art I don't hate, that's a change...we never speak of Jace vs Vraska...
November 2, 2014 7:49 a.m.
I honestly think this is the worst alternate art they've ever done for duel decks. I mean what are they doing? Having a staring contest? The only way I think it could make sense is if Elspeth was standing on the bow of a boat( which she probably is ). They really messed up Kiora's head and made it too short. Like what did she do with her fins?
November 2, 2014 9:09 p.m.
Who's the artist? I can't make it out and I want to compare this with some of their others.
November 2, 2014 9:11 p.m.
Looks like Tyler Jacobson.
November 2, 2014 9:13 p.m.
The majority of the other cards he's done look pretty good. What happened here?
November 2, 2014 9:20 p.m.
It's probably hoping for too much, but I would like to see Kiora's deck have relevant merfolk reprints. Cursecatcher , Lord of Atlantis , Silvergill Adept , &c. would be nice to see.

Well i'm expecting Kiora's deck to be based around giant sea creatures and Elspeth's to be around weenie tokens mainly because that seems to be the themes for those two plansewalkers. It would be cool if it were something different say try and make a pillow-fort deck for Elspeth or something along those lines and something a bit different for Kiora but we all know what we're going to get.

This is pretty cool, dont really care how it fits lorewise.
All I can hope for is that Damnation NEVER sees a reprint simply because Im so tired of reading the complaints about it. Damnation was printed right around 7 years ago. In the grand scheme of things, that isn't that long ago. I remember when Damnation was rotating out of standard and people couldn't get to their local fast enough to offload them, I picked mine up for 8 bucks each at this time because apparently I was the only person who thought it would be a 50 dollar card one day. I cant even remember how many people I had a dispute with that day about Damnation specifically.
My only argument, aka the best reasoning, was it's a white wrath of god and if it doesnt see a reprint for awhile it will be highly sought after. People said I was making a terrible investment, nobody plays black, it's too slow, ect. Now it's stuff like my life is over if they dont reprint Damnation. WAAAAATTTT how could wizards do an annihilation: ftv and not include damnation? Well I dunno how they did it but they did, and not only that the moolies complaining about it were the same moolies ordering cases of khans a week later. Thats some habit you've got there. The only other place on earth you see that type of loyalty is at a crack house. Maybe thats how wizards gets away with it.

best case scenario: Elspeths deck comes with 60 plains, Kiora's deck comes with 20 forests and 40 islands.

ITT: People looking at two small sections of a much bigger image and calling them bad

Value! Except not really because I have no idea what card prices will be by then. Standard is weird. Look at rabblemaster's price over the ages.
November 4, 2014 7:38 p.m.
@PreZchoICE1: so anybody who buys Magic cards is akin to a crack addict? Might want to go a little easy on the sweeping generalizations there.
I'm glad you got your Damnation s when they were cheap. Many of us, for a variety of reasons, could not. In all reality, 7 years is actually a pretty long time between reprints. It's just about a 3rd of the entire lifetime of MTG. There are literally thousands of players who haven't been playing that long, some of whom may not have been born yet.
I'm not sure why you're so butthurt about a Damnation reprint, but if you don't have anything else nicer to say, it might be best to just avoid those conversations entirely.
I, for one, am heavily in favor of a reprint. And not just for economics (I already own a set of textless promos), but for the sake of game balance and fun.

PreZchoICE1 says... #33
@kmcree no just the players who whine and bitch about damnation not being in FTV then have enough creativity to go out and buy a case of khans, all the while bitching about damnation not being included in ftv as they're paying. Not a generalization at all because MOST magic players dont buy cases like that, and MOST magic players have more sense than that.
thousands of players don't have a lot of old stuff thats good but damnation is the card thats bitched about most. Fair enough my words may have been a bit harsh lmao I apologize for that as I was at work when I responded to that. Now Im home and nice and relaxed.
tbh Im all for reprints, but I take offense when people complain and whine about it like its their god given right to get a damnation reprint, right fucking now. I dont see how not reprinting it is making the game less fun and balanced, I think thats a reach but you can have that, it isnt even what I was mad at.
Its just getting a little old, like this right here for example: this is a thread about a white deck, and a blue/green deck. Its at the point that these moolies want a reprint so badly that every time something is released, its got to have damnation in it. Fuck that its black, and the decks are blue/green and white, wheres my fucking damnation wizards.
lmao. but I digress. Im not going to change anything by venting I already know that.
November 4, 2014 11:12 p.m.
I do agree that Damnation gets talked about a lot. But I think in this case, as in most, it was as a joke.
I think the reason people are so demanding of a reprint is the fact that it's a 1 of a kind card. It's the only true wrath that doesn't require white. It's not something you can replace with a cheaper alternative. If you're playing some kind of control that doesn't have white, you need Damnation .
I also think there was a lot of disappointment because it literally would've been the perfect fit in FTV Anhilation. As is, the set is pretty mediocre, but it was hyped a lot more than it deserved.
The reason I say it would make the game more fun/balanced is that it would make certain builds more affordable/playable. For example, if it reappeared in Standard, both BUG control and Grixis control would take over a huge portion of the meta.
I guess I'm sort of digressing at this point, but I just think it's important to consider why people act a certain way, rather than just assuming they're all stupid/annoying.
November 5, 2014 12:20 a.m.
Yea I was joking about Damnation dude haha chill. I would like a reprint yea, but I was poking fun at the fact that every product announcement spurs Damnation hype.
November 5, 2014 12:25 a.m.
And for what it's worth, I didn't play 7 years ago and didn't buy cases of Khans. I'm a broke highschool kid. It would be really really tough to get them without a reprint, and if I was playing a deck that really needed them that would be frustrating. It's not entitlement, it's just being realistic.

kmcree yeah I got the undertones that it was a joke in this thread I was using that as a facetious example more than anything. I have considered it and I still think that anyone that genuinely feels that way (and Ive met some) is generally annoying. :)
Jp3ngu1nb0y I wasnt directing that at u I caught on right away u were joking, it was more of a mid workday 'you know what really grinds my gears' type of post. :)

I like Elspeth, but that Kiora art...damn. they dropped the ball hard there. :(

Kiora looks like a big goof. Elspeth looks OK, but honestly this doesn't approach her badass iconic stance from the Theros printing. I really hope we get some kind of control staple in here. Something interesting will be given aside from the walkers.
Though, the Speed vs Cunning deck didn't give us much at all......I guess a Lightning Helix? So to be fair, we may not have many goodies apart from the walkers after all. Who knows?
November 5, 2014 3:30 p.m.
For me I'm guessing based on this art that Elspeth's deck has something to do with soul sisters.http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MB768VYCXWA/VF5bMM5iOzI/AAAAAAAAYsY/ha5LKzUJGA0/s1600/mtg+dd+elspeth+kiora+7.png

Another disappointing deck list. Other than the walkers, I don't see any notable staples in here.
Mother of Runes, Explosive Vegetation, and the pair of Explore are all of note that I see in here. And that's not very much value, to be honest.
Why not include things like Remand, which was only two Duel Decks ago? Another miscalculation, Wizards...
February 13, 2015 5:23 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #47
Because they are meant to be of value for casual players JakeHarlow. Casual players will buy these and play them straight out of the box. Duel Deck Anthologies was basically a board game for casual players, you could just buy it and play the decks separately by themselves. Many casual players did this. Putting staples in duel decks just makes them hoarded.
February 13, 2015 5:27 p.m.
JakeHarlow says... #48
Oh, I see. I suppose that's all very well. I just enjoy getting goodies from these things I guess. Have they consciously decided not to put staples in them, or they did they just happen to Include any lately?
February 13, 2015 5:37 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #49
WotC does try to evade staples from products. Look at Mind Seize. Look at MMA. The secondary market is the reason why they don't print staples in supplementary products that are meant for casual players.
Remand at the time of its printing wasn't too pricy.
February 13, 2015 5:56 p.m.
Hjaltrohir says... #50
now, Remand is sitting at $15, way to go wizards.
Also, i was displeased by the decklist as well, there was noting that really piqued my interest and since I already have the two planeswalkers, I won't be buying it.
