Okay, so I was watching the LoadingReadyRun preview for this card and, since they used it on a piece of equipment, that got me thinking
How will it work for equpiment artifacts? Can they equip themselves? Would they drop off a creature once enchanted? Be treated like Bestow artifact creatures?
I could see it going any way, but I suppose we'll have to wait until next week. Thoughts?
that was my initial thought too but Ensoul Artifact say "in addition to it's other types", where as Sydri, Galvanic Genius say that it becomes an artifact creature but excludes the part that says "in addition to it's other types". With Sydri your equipment will become an artifact creature and with Ensoul Artifact your equipment will become an artifact creature equipment. I'm not sure if that specific wording actually makes a difference, but considering Ensoul Artifact doesn't mention anything about losing all of it's other abilities, like Turn / Burn for example, I'm thinking that you may still be able to equip your equipment if it's enchanted with Ensoul Artifact . When the put out their pre-release rules information that the do with every set then there will probably be something in there clarifying the rulings of this card.

If you were to enchant an equipment with Ensoul Artifact , it cannot become or stay equipped to a creature.
From the rulings
212.2i An Equipment that's also a creature can't equip a creature. Equipment that loses the subtype "Equipment" can't equip a creature. An Equipment can't equip itself. An Equipment that equips an illegal or nonexistent permanent stops equipping that permanent, but remains in play. (This is a state-based effect. See rule 420.)

It un-equips and can't be re-equipped. But that would have to be some bad ass equipment to make it a 5/5 permanently without effectively killing yourself.

And also, why does it say "Base power and toughness?" Isn't it supposed to be worded like it is in Turn / Burn ?

It could be a new template for describing power and toughness that better matches how players actually describe the effect. Rules changes and template changes often accompany base sets.

By saying "base power/toughness" it will make people less confused about whether it becomes a 5/5 before or after things like anthems and other auras, and so on. I like it.

Stuff like that already exists. I think Sydri, Galvanic Genius can turn equipment into creatures which causes them to drop from the creature they're equipped to.
