Could we see any Planeswalkers in the set? More specifically could we see a Liliana of the Veil reprint? Wouldn't mind seeing a Dack Fayden either.

Dack is a possibility. I don't think the purpose of Eternal Masters is to print modern-legal cards though. Maybe in the next Modern Masters

Liliana of the Veil will most likely be in eldritch moon. She was going to be in m15 but they said that standard wasn't right for her at the moment but with the format being the way it is now she will definitely not be overpowered and it would sell the set like crazy!

It would break precedent for them to reprint a Planeswalker in an expert expansion, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be awesome. Mad sales would be mad, and she is kind of "of the veil" still.

Lili and Snappy will be the first two cards spoiled for MM3.

oh my god seuvius you made my day lol. I love the way you worded that because most people don't grasp that. I see people all the time bring up that fact you mentioned, but they say "she was going to be in M15 but she was too powerful for standard so no she's not getting printed in a standard set ever". And I just facepalm every time I see it. It's like that's not what they said at all, they said she was scheduled for M15 but would have been to strong for standard at that time. That doesn't mean she'll always be too strong, it just meant that with what was currently in standard it would have skewed the meta and prevented diversity in the format. Something they've always tried to achieve and have spent extra attention on since the RTR-THS standard where there was only 3 deck options worth playing.

It makes me happy to see someone else who can comprehend simple English. Instead of seeing someone else who goes, "well Lili is expensive because of how good she's been in modern so that must be true, she's too strong for standard, EVER". lol.

Well thank you abenz419, I'm glad I could make your day! Although it would break precedent like MindAblaze mentioned we are completely sure how they are going to handle planeswalker reprints after the removal of core sets. It's a whole new world that we have only dabbled in and the way I see it is that surely they won't continue to make new cards for the origin 5 endlessly, that would get very annoying as I imagine we will be seeing them ALOT in the continuing storyline, they could easily use their older versions if they fit in the format at the time in order to justify their part in the story without making say, jace version 25 or whatever. Reprinting lili in a standard legal set would open the door for all kinds of new possibilities that haven't been done and would cause excitementexcitement among players.

Also, this could be my wishful thinking taking over due to the fact that I need 6 copies of LOTV for modern decks! XD

@MindAblaze I'm a little confused by what you mean by expert expansion. The only starter level products were the original portal set and then the "starter decks" they had pre made in a second portal-like attempt. There are advanced level products, which consisted of the core sets (no longer being printed) and supplemental sets like Modern Masters. Modern Masters is only considered advanced level because it's all reprints with no new cards, keywords, abilities, etc. The expert level products are any stand alone sets, like Ice Age and Mirage were back in the day, along with any expansion sets (i.e. Return to Ravnica, Theros, Innistrad, etc.). This means that planeswalkers are introduced in expert level sets not just often, but routinely, including 4 in the most recent expert expansion released (SOI).

Also, by definition, wizards would consider Eternal Masters an advanced level set for the same reason that Modern Masters is. Essentially they only consider these sets as advanced level because they're all reprints and an established player can pick up cards in those sets and already know how they work so they can include cards that contain some of the more intricate/complicated mechanics of magic, which consequently makes them not ideal for brand new players. Hence the advanced level tag. Things that are considered expert level are things like the older sets that were designed to function on their own (Ice Age and Mirage), but mostly it consists of sets that introduce new things. The though process behind that is, with new cards/mechanics even an established player will have a slight learning curve as they come across the new stuff (even if it's just common sense read the card). Hence the expert level tag.

I think k he just means it would be completely new for them to reprint an older version of a planeswalker for a standard legal set like eldritch moon, that has never happened.

Yeah, but wizards has never stated that they won't reprint planeswalkers in a standard legal set. In fact, them saying that LotV was originally in M15 but was removed (for reasons other than it being a reprint) is evidence of that fact.

I'd say the reason we haven't seen a reprint of a planeswalker (that wasn't in a supplemental set) has more to do with the overall design of a planeswalker to begin with. Each time we see them they're unique to that moment and that plane at that time. It's the same reason why we got new cards for Drana, Kalitas, Odric, and Avacyn and not straight reprints. It's supposed to represent how they affect the current story line and how they've progressed/changed since the last time we saw them (how Delver of Secrets  Flip became Aberrant Researcher  Flip is another example). For instance (story wise), just reprinting Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is like saying he hasn't changed since we were originally on Innistrad, even though everything else has been corrupted and Avacyn is going crazy. It just wouldn't make sense for everything else to progress with time, but him not.

Expert expansion is old nomenclature for Standard Legal Block expansions. It was my way of differentiating between core sets, which I'm aware don't exist any more. I think you're right to posit that this may actually allow for reprinting of planeswalker cards. Most of the time their argument has been that the character has evolved since the events of the previous printing, so they can't usually print them as the same card, storywise. Liliana I would argue hasn't really changed since the last time we were on Innistrad. If anything she's become more corrupted by the Veil.

Core sets were a different beast, they were for reprints pretty much up until 2010 when they started trying to spice them up.

I also have to echo what's been said on the "Liliana was too strong for standard" idea. I completely agree, they decided putting her in the middle of Mono-Black Devotion would have been a disaster for the format, and that's it. She's not unfair, she's just very well costed with powerful effects that can be tweaked to be advantageous for both sides.

I want big daddy Jace(possible, since it isn't allowed in modern), sadly Dack Fayden is too recent, and Liliana of the Veil would be nice in Eldritch moon
