CastleSiege says... #1

It especially sucks because Vampiric, Enlightened, and Mystical tutors all already had foil printings while Worldly did not.

CastleSiege says... #2

Also, super miffed that none of the cards in my Titania deck that can't be foiled weren't reprinted :(

supermill says... #3

So no ZEN fetches or Imperial Recruiter??

smh.......

Otherwise I'm really happy with the set

Rayenous says... #5

Well... I called in on Faithless Looting, Desperate Ravings, and Deep Analysis for Flashback cards.

supermill says... #6

Also really wish they had reprinted Worldly Tutor and Rishadan Port

May 27, 2016 11:34 a.m.

Monsmtg says... #7

I don't even care about rares. I'm just thrilled for commons and uncommons.

acronix says... #8

While I am pleased with the set as a whole, I was really looking forward to a Crucible of Worlds reprint. There are others they dropped the ball on too but I realize that Wizards always messes up somewhere in sets and this is no different. I'm not seeing a whole lot of defined Draft archetypes either. Most of the themes revolve around rares and mythic that you are unlikely to actually see when drafting. But despite the mistakes in archetypes and bad calls on rarities, I appreciate their attempt to put some decent cards back into circulation.

I know a lot of people were speculating that we'd see some storm stuff because one of the lead developers (or some one who was close to in charge) was a storm player, but... I didn't see much for storm. Did I miss something?

PistonGolem says... #10

Tokens got spoiled, including Tooth and Claw and Tidal Wave reprints, idk what rarity. Some tokens can belong to multiple cards, such as the dragon token can mean Dragon Egg or Brood Keeper.

May 27, 2016 12:02 p.m.

Omeros says... #11

I don't remember anyone mentioning Duplicant being in EMA.

May 27, 2016 12:14 p.m.

iBleedPunk says... #12

I am pretty happy about the Eight-and-a-Half-Tails and Silvos, Rogue Elemental reprints. Wish either would have got new art though :/

Although WotC made me very sad with no Crucible of Worlds reprint, at least the chance of possibly pulling one would justify the amount of shit Rares I would have to go through

CChaos says... #13

It seems sphinx of the steel wind is the last mythic...

May 27, 2016 12:24 p.m.

Omeros says... #14

Oh god, they put Braids, Cabal Minion in. STAX DRAFT IS GO.

May 27, 2016 12:27 p.m.

JDMCRIB says... #15

Drafting Braids, Cabal Minion, Winter Orb, Sinkhole, and Hymn to Tourach together is the dream lol

May 27, 2016 12:49 p.m.

KillDatBUG says... #16

Sphinx of the Steel Wind as our last mythic? The fuck? Could have reprinted Crucible of Worlds... or Ensnaring Bridge.... or almost ANY other artifact. But no, you reprint THIS garbage again. As our MYTHIC. I'm not even that mad about most of these Commander rares getting reprinted that aren't even worth a dollar. I wouldn't be mad if they reprinted Sphinx as a rare. But as a MYTHIC? Fuck you, Wizards.

maiden77 says... #17

it seems the value of the packs dropped quite a bit, reckon this will be too similar to MMA2015? All the value in too few cards?

May 27, 2016 1:08 p.m.

CChaos says... #18

Im going for singles :)

...and maybe a handful of packs for fun.

May 27, 2016 1:20 p.m.

PistonGolem says... #19

Sphinx of the Steel Wind, more like Sphinx of the Comet Storm...

May 27, 2016 1:35 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #20

I was considering buying packs, but considering "all" I need from this set eventually is a Jace, the Mind Sculptor, two Vampiric Tutor, three Sylvan Library, an Enlightened Tutor, two Mystical Tutor, an Entomb, two Mana Crypt, a Winter Orb and a Sensei's Divining Top, I guess going for singles makes a lot more sense. I mean, these are a bunch of money, but I can't help it. Pulling these cards is just too unlikely, even if I buy two boxes.

May 27, 2016 2:03 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #21

With the set spoiled it's confirmed I will not crack a pack of this set. It's all singles. I'm not throwing away money I could use on singles on a box lottery.

May 27, 2016 2:19 p.m.

I think they put too many bulk rares in EMA. Overall I am pleased with the set, happy with the cards they chose to reprint, and am about as happy as I can expect to be with what was not included, since everyone's list of cards they want reprinted is vastly different.

However, the quantity of bulk annoys me. Pyrokinesis is the easiest example - an already crap uncommon that they made into a rare in a masters set. Really? Overall I think there are just too many bulk rares. They needed to include more rares like Xantid Swarm: cards you won't just burn on the spot, but cards that aren't going to get you jumping for joy. I think that should have been the benchmark on bulk rares, so we don't get crap like Pyrokinesis.

EDIT: The bulk mythics piss me off too. Necropotence is the perfect bulk mythic; Sphinx of the Steel Wind, Worldgorger Dragon, and Balance are just insulting.

Lame_Duck says... #23

Wait, did people really expect with this set that - unlike every other set ever - the most economical way to get the singles you wanted would be cracking packs?

May 27, 2016 2:27 p.m.

No idea what this is from, but it's the best I could find to describe this past week in spoilers:

enter image description here

TheDevicer can probably get a better one.

I didn't agree when Necropotence and Worldgorger Dragon were being compared to Comet Storm in MM2, but Sphinx of the Steel Wind is definitely up what-the-fuck alley.

May 27, 2016 2:28 p.m.

PistonGolem says... #25

Some cards though... Mistral Charger was added because it is an AMAZING eternal staple, I guess?

May 27, 2016 2:28 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #26

Wait, did people really expect with this set that - unlike every other set ever - the most economical way to get the singles you wanted would be cracking packs?

No. But I had some hopes that cracing say, two displays, I'd get enough value to refinance the displays while ripping some cards I'd need. But I don't really think that's possible.

DemonDragonJ says... #27

How is it that the entire set has been spoiled? There are still two weeks before it shall be released, and most sets are fully revealed only one week before their release.

Apart from the cards on which I have already commented, I am very glad to see that Swords to Plowshares is in this set, although I do wish that it had new artwork, and I also am very disappointed by the lack of Disenchant and Ancient Spider; even worse is that the same artwork was used for both Pacifism and Serra Angel; does WotC really not wish to pay artists for new illustrations for their cards? They could have at least used the Karn or Akroma artwork for pacifism, rather than the zombie artwork, again. Also, given that Enlightened Tutor, Mystical Tutor, and Vampiric Tutor are all in this set, the lack of Worldly Tutor is especially glaring, so hopefully it shall be in this year's Conspiracy set.

However, those are minor complaints, as the overall set is amazing, and I am very pleased with it. I do expect this to be a popular product, and I am hoping for it to be a recurring product, with a second installment in 2018.

F.R.F says... #28

JohnnyBaggins

But has there ever been a set that guaranteed a return on value? Lame_Duck's comment is that people are complaining about something they should already know. If you can see it's raining and you walk outside you shouldn't be surprised when you get wet.

May 27, 2016 2:59 p.m.

Rayenous says... #29

DemonDragonJ - Spoilers are usually fully spoiled 2 weeks before release... 1 week before pre-release (which EMA doesn't have)

May 27, 2016 3:01 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #30

DemonDragonJ: They printed a tutor for every colour. Vampiric Tutor for , Gamble for , Mystical Tutor for , Enlightened Tutor for and for they chose Green Sun's Zenith. Considering how iconic each of these cards is, I do think Green Sun's is the correct choice. Yes, a lot of people hoped for Worldly, but I think Zenith is more fitting.

ZeGinger says... #31

I'm very happy for this set. I'll crack a box and not feel guilty in the slightest.

Hell, if I get what I want I'll just sleeve the damn thing and make it my cube because it looks stupid fun.

Kay, maybe I oughta get two boxes then.

May 27, 2016 3:03 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #32

F.R.F Yeah sure. But are they actually complaining, or just a little disappointed that this set turned out the same? With the absurd start they had, hopes were not unjustified.

May 27, 2016 3:04 p.m.

F.R.F says... #33

JohnnyBaggins At the risk of being that guy, I believe the definition of complaining is expressing dissatisfaction about something. So technically you could classify it all as complaining.

And really, there's nothing wrong with that - there are things I would have liked to see as well that were not printed (looking at you, Imperial Recruiter), I just think it's a little silly since this is how pretty much every spoiler cycle operates. WotC has gotten pretty good at steering the hype train and people would be a lot more satisfied with these sets if they understood that going in.

Also, then we could avoid the several dozen Comet Storm comments ;)

May 27, 2016 3:25 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #34

Well, Mr. that guy, you are technically correct - the best kind of correct. But still, I think there's a difference between complaining and stating dissatification. Either case, I think the set looks decent, but a little below expectation - which is, considering the abstruse expectations in this set, not surprising.

capriom85 says... #35

Anyone beyond unhappy with Control Magic as a rare slot?Id preferGilded Drake in that slot.

May 27, 2016 3:44 p.m.

Arvail says... #36

I'd just like to point out that my prediction that EMA would have Jace, Dack, no lili or snappy, and the khans refuge lands all came true. I was wrong about calling the refuges at uncommon, but oh well. Privately among friends, I also called Crypt, no Inquisition, Shardless, Cabal Therapy, Karakas, and Sensei's.

Oh, and I only made those predictions because of a series of accurate predictions.

ZeGinger says... #37

I Feel like a large amount of people don't seem to realize the fact that the development teams won't reprint every chase card in EMA because of, well, hype.

Im pretty sure this won't be the one and only eternal masters edition, which means they very well could be saving some of those other high demand cards for the next. Or for any set in general.

To be redundant, everyone should think of the economic needs for the set, what would wizards gain from printing the Best cards in the set, when they can spread those cards out over couple of sets, with more niche cards as filler?

Thats the way I see it, at least.

May 27, 2016 4:08 p.m.

Omeros says... #38

Not the first time I'll point out to someone in this thread that Gilded Drake remains on the reserve list.

May 27, 2016 4:34 p.m.

zephramtripp says... #39

I think its interesting that this is probably the first set in some time with zero Equipment. Probably to feel more eternal, because Equipment was first printed in the modern era.

May 27, 2016 4:35 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #40

I'm very happy about that. Not a big fan of equipment at all. Not at all.

May 27, 2016 4:41 p.m.

F.R.F says... #41

Omeros

Yeah, this thread should have had a link to the reserved list at the top in big flashing letters.

May 27, 2016 5:06 p.m.

K34 says... #42

Solid set of Commons and uncommon. Shame I already have the ones I would want.

Since I learned my lesson about gambling on buying packs, I'll probably only buy a couple for fun and then walk away altogether from the set.

May 27, 2016 6:04 p.m.

Just as a fyi, even when Wizards print a set that puts tens of AMAZING cards into print, people still bitch that money wasn't put into the set.

Like Worldgorger Dragon. I don't care as much that it isn't worth a ton, but the dream of infinite comboing off in draft makes me soooo happy.

I guess I shouldn't really expect more, but c'mon. This is still just value.

Only complaint: Grave-Troll and Life from the Loam should be in here instead of some of the junk green rares. But whatever. Wizards still did outstanding. And this looks like the MOST fun limited format ever. Eternal Masters just looks like plain, valuey fun.

May 27, 2016 6:05 p.m.

Drafting Daze, Fact or Fiction, Peregrine Drakes, Man O Wars, Counterspells, Merfolk Looters, and Brainstorms has my inner blue mage crying in joy.

And the UB reanimator deck... Even though you need a lot of uncommons and rares to make it really work, it looks like the SWEETEST. FUCKING. THING. EVER.

May 27, 2016 6:08 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #45

SwaggyMcSwagglepants - Money is in the set. Players bitch about variance.

May 27, 2016 6:11 p.m.

@ChiefBell sure sure, but even if there are junk rares, they're still like ~$2 with exceptions. And there are uncommon like Daze and Cabal Therapy which are still worth money.

And I've seen quite a few packs of MMA or MM2 with junk rares and money uncommons, so it's not like rares are the only money. I think people will be pleasantly surprised to find more money in packs with junk rares than expected.

Does White not have a second Mythic?

May 27, 2016 8:43 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #48

I assume Karakas counts as the second mythic.

May 27, 2016 8:45 p.m.

KingTorg1 says... #49

A land as powerful as Karakas does not need to be played in a white deck necessarily. Giving white only one real mythic would be kind of a letdown.

May 27, 2016 11:10 p.m.

Lokotor says... #50

I would Count Karakas and Mana Crypt as colorless Mythics, but having Chrome Mox makes it more believable that karakas is the white mythic
