I have to make sure to thank my LGS owner for selling EVERYTHING at msrp.

He does joint ownership and all of the owners have day jobs so it's not like they are hurting to turn a profit. I'm glad they pass that on.

DrFunk27 says... #2

Wasteland down to $35~ Come on Force, fall a little more! Lol

_Delta_ says... #3

The first card from the first booster pack by someone from my local game store was a Karakas.

DemonDragonJ says... #4

Delta-117, I am certain that that player must have been very pleased, indeed.

I have four copies of Mana Leak in each of two decks of mine, and I am considering replacing them with the original Counterspell, because it is an unconditional counter, not a conditional counter, and it is now available in the new border style for a low price. What advice can anyone else offer to help me with this decision?

June 10, 2016 3:42 p.m.

F.R.F says... #5

DemonDragonJ

It probably just depends on color. If you can hit as often as Counterspell is (do I dare say it?) a strictly better card. The more colors you are running the more attractive Mana Leak becomes.

June 10, 2016 3:50 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #6

F.R.F, one deck is blue/white and the other deck is blue/red, but I have rarely had any difficulty producing two blue mana at a time. However, the blue/white deck also contains Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, who can reduce the cost of mana leak, but not counterspell, which complicates my decision.

B) just got two packs from the store, got Maelstrom Wanderer and Karakas.

Ill be lucky if I don't open all Giant Solifuges and Pyrokinesis.

Rabid_Wombat says... #9

Pulled a shiny Counterspell from my prize pack - W00T!

Ironic given the fact I had to pass two Counterspells to the guy who already had a Force of Will from his first pack. Mystical Tutor & Mistral Charger were the preferred choices ;)

June 10, 2016 9:05 p.m.

_Delta_ says... #10

Someone I know got a foil wasteland and Sphinx of the steel wind, then sylvan library in the next pack, and a foil enlightened tutor in another.

June 10, 2016 9:13 p.m.

My lgs draft had someone open a foil Mana Crypt and Vampiric Tutor in the same pack. #Lucky!

June 10, 2016 10:35 p.m.

_Delta_ says... #12

Yeah lucky. I only opened 2 packs so far for Regal Force and that rare goblin card that I can't quite remember the name at the moment, that gives you 3 goblin tokens.

Hopefully I get something else when I open another 6 packs not long from now.

Spark0fPrimus says... #13

Bought 3 packs today. Opened a Deathrite Shaman, Chain Lightning, Control Magic, and Sylvan Library. The Library pack also had a foil rare, but it was just a big dumb janky green creature, nothing fun like the Library itself at all.

June 10, 2016 11:40 p.m.

iBleedPunk says... #14

Spark0fPrimus what was aforementioned big dumb janky green creature? I'm intrigued

June 10, 2016 11:51 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #15

Likely Regal Force. Pretty sure it's the only rare green creature that matches the description.

June 11, 2016 12:16 a.m.

TheFoilAjani says... #16

Regal Force is actually worth sonething, especially if foil. Pretty sure it's Silvos, Rogue Elemental.

June 11, 2016 12:30 a.m.

iBleedPunk says... #17

TheFoilAjani Spark0fPrimus I'm hoping it is the Silvos, Rogue Elemental. If by happenstance it is I'm down to trade for it

June 11, 2016 12:48 a.m.

Panda213 says... #18

Opened 5 packs today, notable pulls were a Vampiric Tutor, Regal Force, foil Keldon Champion and a foil Ancestral Mask. All in all I opened somewhere between $70-$80 worth of cards after dropping $50.. got some crap rares but def going back for more

June 11, 2016 12:49 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #19

Why does Counterspell not have any flavor text in this set? That is such a waste of space on the card. And I really hope that that is not Jace in the artwork, since he was already in the artwork of the card in Jace versus Chandra.

June 11, 2016 1:07 a.m.

Boza says... #20

ME and a friend opened a single pack each. He gets Jace and I get Malicious Affliction. I made my money back though with a foil Relic of Progenitus and a Wall of Omens

June 11, 2016 3:30 a.m. Edited.

Oh I still remember... Whenever my friend and I open packs together, he always gets the $$. First pack of MM15, I grab the wrong pack and open an Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. He opens Noble Hierarch At OGW prerelease, we got a pack each as prize. I pull Mina and Denn, Wildborn, he pulls Flooded Grove expedition. We'll be drafting EMA today, I hope it's not the same luck ;)

June 11, 2016 8:05 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #22

I am very surprised that Show and Tell was not reprinted in this set; perhaps it shall be in the next Eternal Masters?

June 11, 2016 8:23 a.m.

Are we gonna talk about the guy from mtggoldfish that opened a box? Pack one he pulled a foil karakas.

Other notable pulls include JtMS, foil Top, and some other cards like chain lightning, cabal therapy, and a handful of walls of omens

June 11, 2016 10:33 a.m.

mtgThaen says... #24

I like the fact that Counterspell has no flavor text. The absence thereof is tbe flavor. Nothing is needed, it says. No fancy wordplay, just a simple denial when they cast a spell.

TheFoilAjani says... #25

Oh yeah, forgot to report on my draft.

Went 3-1 with Boros goblins (4th round was a playoff). I got 2 Mogg War Marshal, 2 Stingscourger and 1 Siege-Gang Commander. My rounds were over in about 10 minutes.

I pulled Chain Lightning, Entomb and Foil Ichorid. Because of the Ichy, I can draft again in a couple of hours.

June 11, 2016 1:13 p.m.

Guftders says... #26

Bought a box yesterday (at 165 gbp XD), and my notable pulls were:

Notable uncommons: Daze, Hydroblast, Cabal Therapy, Chain Lightning, Swords to Plowshares... only one copy of each.

So yeah. Only getting one mythic pissed me off, but at least it wasn't Worldgorger Dragon XD

So after barely breaking even (despite msrp price), if my lgs still has boxes after I get paid in a couple of weeks, I'll get another :D

June 11, 2016 1:14 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #27

If you're buying EMA boxes to try to make money you're doing it wrong.

June 11, 2016 1:26 p.m.

Went to a draft and opened an extra pack, notable pulls were:

So yeah, I was unusually successful, paid $40 and got $125.

June 11, 2016 10 p.m.

D'oh, it cut out the top on my list.

Force of Will

June 11, 2016 11:26 p.m.

Time for singles.

Bought 1 pack. Got Sphinx of the Steel Wind. Next time I'll just get my 15 bucks and put it through a shredder.

kengiczar says... #33

First guy I asked "get anything good" said that he'd bought a pack and opened a Green Sun's Zenith. It was very easy to not buy a pack after that as I still have a dozen GSZ from my Mirrodin Besieged box buying days..

Instead I just bought a Traverse the Ulvenwald. It was $2.00 which I think is fair considering it can fix a low-land hand T1 or get a combo piece later. Considering that EDH switched to Vancouver mulligans the T1 play is especially important.

The set does seem pretty cool for commander players though! A lot of the ones where I live (myself included) WANT to play all the powerful 1v1 Commander staples excluding reserve list cards due to price so this was a blessing for a lot of my pals.

abenz419 says... #34

Well didn't really plan on buying any packs but plans fell through today so I stopped by the game shop down the street (who sells packs at MSRP) and picked up 3 packs, I don't mind taking a gamble every now and then and still enjoy cracking a few packs from time to time. All of my foils were commons of no significance, but I got a Toxic Deluge, a Baleful Strix, and a Natural Order as my rares. A couple notable uncommons as well in Daze, Peregrine Drake, and Harmonize. So I had my fun and it didn't hurt me too much in the wallet either.

smackjack says... #35

Not a good time to be on vacation, dont think they will keep my reservation for a week :/. Reserved a box at close to MSRP

DemonDragonJ says... #36

It is probably too early to be asking this, but how likely is it that there shall be a second Eternal Masters set? Will this set be sufficiently popular to justify WotC making another one?

June 12, 2016 4:39 p.m.

kengiczar says... #37

Popularity wise it seems to be doing fine but I notice mostly casual players buying it. I think it definitely is making enough to warrant a continuation but not as much as Modern Masters has in the past.

I do anticipate the next Modern Masters to make less than the previous one. I can't say for sure whether I think the next modern masters will make more or less than the current eternal masters.

June 12, 2016 5:15 p.m.

Harashiohorn says... #38

I think Eternal Masters will definitely be more than a one of for two reasons, Firstly There are still some cards they left to reprint like Show and Tell and Rishadan Port, but secondly a more importantly, these eternal masters sets have proven an somewhat effective way to tap into a previously relatively untapped market share: Non-Standard format players. With Masters sets even if the players don't buy them up, stores will, and it lets WOTC make money off formats like Legacy, which they might otherwise have trouble making money off of since cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor aren't really standard material. Its not like these sets lose WOTC money.

readerrw07 says... #39

While my pulls werent very good at al, seven packs only got me a Sylvan Library and Sinkhole while I watched mythic after foil after foil mythic get pulled around the store. I am quite happy to see what the set is at least temporarily doing to card prices. While Force of Will may be more expensive because its a staple and new art, we have examples like Karakas as low as $70, Jace's at $60, Wasteland is under $50.Heck even Mana Crypt can be bought for less than $100 now. Still large prices but when Karakas and Crypt were (and for OG still are) at $150 or higher, and Jace has been at $90 for years, I gotta say if you were gonna make the plunge into Legacy, do it within the next month or few before this price dip ends

June 12, 2016 10:02 p.m.

Guftders says... #40

I can't imagine them NOT doing another Masters set. Unless no one buys it or, in the words of MaRo re: premium decks, "not enough people loved it", then I can't imagine them not doing another one. Hopefully, they might get wise and start increasing the print run (I think they decreased the print run this time due to MM15) if they really wanted to make a difference for the average player.

June 13, 2016 7:25 a.m.

Yeah mine was pretty good, when I didn't buy packs but drafted. My first P.O.P.O I took Toxic Deluge then proceeded to get pasted a Winter Orb. Second pack I opened a Void which I passed for a foil Blood Artist and third pack I opened a Sensei's Divining Top which I windmill'd.

I went 3-1 and my prize packs was Karakas, a foil Daze in one and in the other pack I opened Malicious Affliction but had a foil Peregrine Drake.

My second draft which, was later that day, opened Vampiric Tutor P.O.P.O., second was Shardless Agent and last was another Toxic Deluge, which I went 3-1 again. Prize packs was Eight-and-a-Half-Tails and Deathrite Shaman

I am happy with the one EMA draft I got in on between other weekend projects. I got lucky and won the draft pod I was in because I think most people were drafting $ value and I was drafting edh value. After trading, I walked out with 2 Enlightened Tutors to bring my super nostalgia azorius vigilance stasis legacy brew closer to the oppressive side shifting a bit away from merely trolling opponents.

I lost the first game and was crazy nervous. I had too many lands, over-correcting my tendency not to run enough lands in drafts. After sideboarding, I went on a rampage with Carrion Feeder, Blood Artist, and lots of interaction with opponents' stuff both in play and in graveyards. I had cracked Baleful Strix, Hymn to Tourach, and foil Animate Dead but not much else that I found exciting enough to remember. I did a lot of hate picking of win conditions outside my colors. It was shameful.

In the end I went 2-1, 2-0, 2-1 and the only one I remember very well was the 2-0 because he had a Deathrite Shaman jund aggro build that ran me down until I was able to stablize. His deck had some really interesting interaction with Wirewood Symbiote that made me remember what he was playing because it was so hard to get rid of and I was lucky that Blood Artist both healed the aggro damage and got through his line.

I walked in with $45 and came out with 2 Enlightened Tutor and Brimaz, King of Oreskos from trading / binder shopping (plus some dragonshields, dice, and some other goodies like Sword of Feast and Famine and Reforge the Soul).

It was a fun day (even though I get freaked out nervous at formal events and any time I have to give my dci #)

PistonGolem says... #43

I probably won't buy packs, just singles, because I hate how WotC printed a limited run, so stores can gouge prices to 15 bucks or higher, and I would have like to see more reprints instead of jank meant for draft. Could we get a set NOT made for drafting?

June 13, 2016 11:51 a.m.

Rayenous says... #44

I drafted yesterday, and managed to get a pretty nutty 'go-wide/tokens' themed deck.

2x Raise the Alarm
Intangible Virtue
Battle Squadron
2x Flame-Kin Zealot
Glimmerpoint Stag
Humble (drafted 2, played one... siding in/out as needed)
Karmic Guide
Mother of Runes
Swords to Plowshares
Pacifism
Aven Riftwatcher
Keldon Marauders
2x Mogg War Marshal
Seismic StompStingscourger
2x Rally the Peasants
Field of Souls
2x Whitemane Lion (awesome with all the ETB creatures I had)
Also had Maze of Ith (first pack, first pick)
Plus, Imperious Perfect - Since I had 2x Blossoming Sands (as well as 1 Wind-Scarred Crag), I decided to splash green for it

This also let me use Glare of Subdual and Nature's Claim as sideboard (along with a Relic of Progenitus)

Ended up getting 3rd, going 2-1, but had to mulligan to 5 both games in the match I lost.

June 13, 2016 11:55 a.m.

Boza says... #45

So, it is entirely WOTC's fault that the stores charge more for product? And the fact that WOTC gives you more value from the product by crafting a limited environment is somehow bad?

If for example the packs had 15 cards that were only on Entomb level of prices and above, how much do you think a pack would cost? 10$?

June 13, 2016 11:58 a.m.

Boza says... #46

@Rayenous, Playing a tokens deck and not playing Glare of Subdual in it is a crime, that card wins games on its own. Even fixed Opposition is still too good.

June 13, 2016 11:59 a.m. Edited.

Rayenous says... #47

Oh... and the strangest part was my first 3 picks.

1 - Maze of Ith - Great Limited card, and doesn't force me into a color.
2 - Relic of Progenitus - With the Flashback/Reanimate themes out there, I thought it a good early pick... still not forced into a color.
3 - .... a 3rd pick Mother of Runes...! Sure I'll grab a great Limited rare 3rd pick, and go , since it's clearly open.

June 13, 2016 12:07 p.m.

Rayenous says... #48

Boza - I didn't want to rely too heavily on . - I sided it in against an Elf deck... against which I used Imperious Perfect to beat... Flavour Win!

ZeGinger says... #49

PistonGolem distributors* many stores would no doubt sell at barely above msrp if not for the distributors marking the prices up for that reason. Hell, both my lgs's mentioned just that, so im not mad at them. Thats just how economics do. Supply n demand force price spikes.

June 13, 2016 12:50 p.m.

Wizno says... #50

Drafted Esper Reanimator (splash of white for Karmic Guide). Definitely a hard archetype to pull off but it is super powerful when people are passing you Inkwell Leviathan and Havoc Demon and 2x Animate Dead. Double Blood Artist didn't hurt either.

So far the best pulls have been Sylvan Library, Entomb, Green Sun's Zenith, and foils of Counterspell, Price of Progress, Blood Artist.
