iAzire, I completely agree that the ABUR duals are the best dual lands in Magic, hands down, and that if you want to play Legacy or Vintage competitively they're an investment you probably need to make. What that doesn't mean, however, is that, as you put it, "most people can afford them." In fact, I even know someone who plays Commander very competitively, but isn't willing to spend roughly $225 on a Tundra.

I think they mean just adding the snow type to the dual lands. For example: "Snow Tundra; Snow Land - Plains Island."
February 18, 2016 11:43 p.m.
A good number of people can afford at least half of them was my point. Even more players will do stuff like buying boxes. As an addicted box cracker, I can say that buying boxes is not a good investment. Many players will save their money to buy a box, especially a box like this which will MSRP around $240. A better investment short of some really great pulls, (Expeditions in BFZ/Oath), would be to break down any purchase the ABUR Duals, or similar cards. I personally love my Mana Drain and don't regret it a bit.
We then have to look at what you pull. More often than not I will lose a good amount of money from buying boxes. The value of the cards I pull also drops as a set cycles out, causing me to lose even more money. This is the nature of Magic. This is why I say that any competitive player should just buy ABUR Duals. The same amount of money is spent on other cards of lesser value and life span. For long term play it is a much better investment.
While looking at this, and this future box, we have to look at previous sets. MM2 had some really great cards in it but with MSRP at $240 it is a terrible investment. This box won't be any different. Buying cards on the Reserved List, even the more expensive ones will more likely than not prove to be the better investment for your money.
On my last note, thank you SpringingTiger. I thought they were literally talking about cards like Frost Marsh.

do we think they may print some of the commons/uncommons from vintage? such as thirst for knowledge, dark ritual, git probe maybe, mental misstep, cabal therapy, some stuff from flobots, etc.?
February 19, 2016 12:28 a.m.
Oh for the whole reanimation comment/idea why not instead of animate dead they print Reanimate
Sincerely, a hopeful reanimator player who needs another couple of those but not animate deads.
February 19, 2016 1:34 a.m.
SpringingTiger Thank you.
The reserved list is not beneficial to anyone, really. Eventually, people will have a full playset of ABUR duals but not want to trade them. Hence, people will just not be able to find them for ANY price. Forget card hoarders, eventually they will be begging for a reprint when it is impossible to find any of these cards which will not be reprinted. It needs to be abolished- sooner rather than later. Admittedly, they can't because of legal reasons, but they can't tell me that there is no loophole out of it because some have been suggested. I mean, come on, they may as well put 'goyf on the reserved list to "protect the investors intrests". Heck, why not abandon rotations and banning and put all cards ever printed on the reserved list in that case?
February 19, 2016 3:39 a.m.
Do not turn this thread into a reserved list discussion. It is both pointless and useless to the Eternal Masters spoiler thread.
Now, I am super excited that terese nielsen has upgraded the art of FOW. It is strikingly better than the original. This could be the only thing in this set and I would still be happy.

So, all this talk about ABUR Duals... we all know it's not happening, it's just hype/wishful thinking.
But, what about the possibility of reprinting Snow Basics in the Basic land slot... perhaps full-art? - Even not full art, it's a way to make sure there is something 'desirable' in each pack. (With full-art, I suppose there would just be auto buy-outs everywhere, so maybe not a good thing.)
Now, if they wanted to print a new 'Enters Untapped', 'counts as both fetch able types', Duals, I propose...
Phyrexian Tundra
Land - Island Plains
When Phyrexian Tundra enters the Battlefield you gain 2 poison counters.
(A Player with 10 or more poison counters loses the game)
If you play 5+, you die, so it's possibly more limiting than Legendary... yet decks would still run them (hoping never to run into infect decks)
Alternatively, just make it like this.
Phyrexian Island
Land - Island
When Phyrexian Island enters the Battlefield you gain one poison counter.
T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. You gain a Poison Counter
(A Player with 10 or more poison counters loses the game)
Half as fetchable as it only has one subtype. Limits the number you can play, but lets you get all of the additional colors a limited number of times.

wow this thread has devolved.... phyrexian duals, sigh

Ravenous, there won't be basic lands in this set. If you look closely at Wasteland you'll notice that it's collector number is 248 out of 249, and basic lands always come at the end, so that doesn't leave room for basics. You may also remember that Modern Masters 1 and 2 didn't have basics either.

Also phyrexian mana is one of the most broken ideas they've printed in recent years. That's not gonna be coming back lol. Especially not in land form.
February 19, 2016 10:22 a.m.
Fetchable Dual that you need to exile 2 cards from your grave when it enters, or its exiled..

I think this thread was supposed to be a "spoiler" thread, not a "cards I wish that would exist" thread..
February 19, 2016 10:54 a.m.
Yeah for real... But I guess there haven't really been any spoilers other than the release spoilers so people are talking about random stuff.

Ohthenoises says... #16
They also have confirmed that there will be no new printings.
February 19, 2016 11:06 a.m.
We probably have to wait a month for new spoilers so there is really nothing else to discuss..

Let's talk about what kind of common/uncommon cards need a reprint. Something like Inquisition or Simian Spirit Guide.

ThisIsBullshit says... #20
I think Inquisition of Kozilek definitely needs a reprint.

grumbledore says... #21
EpicFreddi - those aren't really legacy staples though. To me 'eternal masters' signifies legacy and vintage staples, as those are the only eternal formats. And edh I guess. I would think inquisition and spirit guide would be good bets for the next modern masters though.
February 19, 2016 11:49 a.m.
Swords, Fact or Fiction, Loyal Retainers, Aven Mindcensor, Reanimate, Cabal Coffers, Counterbalance, the Tutors, etc.
February 19, 2016 11:54 a.m.
Ohthenoises says... #23
Cabal Therapy and Dread Return seem like good additions.

Aaron Forsyth said "It contains cards from the vast history of Magic, although the focus is on pre-Modern stuff".
So Modern staples aren't completely out of the question, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high for that IoK reprint.
February 19, 2016 11:57 a.m.
I'm a huge fan of old borders and art, so I'm a little surprised by how excited I'm to see newer versions of existing cards.
February 19, 2016 12:01 p.m.
Mosern Masters and Modern Masters 2015 both only had 2 Planeswalkers.
If we can go by the theory that this will only have 2, what would your speculation be?
I know most people assume Liliana of the Veil, but I'm not 100% convinced.
My thoughts tend toward Jace, the Mind Sculptor (obviously), and then Dack Fayden.
Alternatively, if Lili is printed, I would assume Lili and Dack, not Lili and Jace. - However, notably, not having both PW's in the same/overlapping color may make Lili's inclusion a little more credible.
What I don't see is having both Lili and Jace.
Other possible includes are:
Koth of the Hammer - Played in Imperial Painter
Domri Rade - Sees a little bit of play in Zoo and Mavericks
Ajani Vengeant - Sees play in Zoo and Miracles
Karn Liberated - Hopefully not after the recent MM2015 printing
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - Very limited play in some Stoneblade lists
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage - Very limited play in Stoneblade
Vraska the Unseen - Very limited play in Junk/Rock decks
Keeping in Mind that Eternal Masters is also intended to support EDH and Cube, none of the PW's can truly be ruled out... but hopefully not Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded.

I would be very surprised to see Liliana of the Veil get reprinted in EMA. Given that she's legal in Modern and also sees more play in Modern than in Legacy I think WotC will save her for Modern Masters 2017.
February 19, 2016 1:18 p.m.
I'm also thinking snappy and veil will be seen 2017. We'll get reprints of Dack and Jace.
February 19, 2016 1:19 p.m. Edited.
Obviously Jace, the Mind Sculptor is a huge thing in legacy, but... Is it possible he misses a reprint in favor of some more EDH focused walkers? I don't know if it matters, but the combination of Jace having a supplemental printing and Force of Will in at mythic (two hugely powerful cards in the same color seems unlikely, maybe?) makes me wonder if they don't skip over Jace.
February 19, 2016 1:39 p.m.
Potentially Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Dack Fayden, or finishing the Nimbus Maze Cycle.
February 19, 2016 1:55 p.m.
@Midn8 - There will be no new cards printed in the set, so no finishing the Nimbus Maze cycle.
February 19, 2016 1:59 p.m.
I think Dack Fayden is a prime candidate for EMA. He's only seen one printing, is played extensively in Vintage and a little in Legacy. it would make sense to see Dack here.
February 19, 2016 1:59 p.m.
I actually hope they don't print Jace, the Mind Sculptor... I just finished my playset, and want their value to remain the same.
I'm trying to guess what Draft themes they may use. Difficult, as I'm not overly familiar with Legacy/Vintage. - Thinking of possible cards from one, it makes me think of possible overlaps for others.
Miracles would overlap well with Delver. (Brainstorm/Ponder, Sensei's Divining Top)
Death and Taxes overlaps with Rock. (Vindicate, Sinkhole, Pernicious Deed)
Zoo... I think would overlap with something good in ?
Any other ideas/guesses?
February 19, 2016 2:12 p.m.
Screw the limited for the set, just print the cards people want/need. I don't want anything like Brion Stoutarm or other already heavily represented EDH cards.
February 19, 2016 2:22 p.m.
You guys are being somewhat unrealistic.
There are likely going to be 20-25 rares that are actually useful in legacy/vintage (and that's me being hopeful), maybe 5 mythics, a couple of commons and uncommons like brainstorm and pyroblast, and the rest is going to be garbage stuck in for drafts.
WotC prioritizes drafts over everything, always have, always will.
February 19, 2016 2:27 p.m. Edited.
@Rayenous - Hatebears and efficient beaters? Think Aven Mindcensor, Qasali Pridemage, Thalia, containment priest, imposing sovereign (shifted to uncommon), voice, grandma, etc.

has anything beyond the first 2 cards been spoiled?
February 19, 2016 3:11 p.m.
APPLE01DOJ not yet. However, Wizards is doing a investigation on the leaks. If they find some stores did have access to the "God Book" then they are very likely to spoil the whole thing within a couple of days of concluding their investigation. So, there is that...
February 19, 2016 4:19 p.m. Edited.
How realistic would it be to print Sensei's Divining Top at uncommon? Both that and Counterbalance desperately need reprints, but to exist in the same environment, one of those would need to be set as a rare. The top would also be a high pick for essentially any other strategy, so I don't think people could reliably play countertop, but it would still be a possibility. Balance at rare, top at uncommon?
February 19, 2016 4:41 p.m.
I would think Sensei's Divining Top at rare and Counterbalance at uncommon. I would much rather get my hands on Sensei's Divining Tops, so I hope I am wrong, but Counterbalance doesn't do as well without having something to manipulate the top of your library. Sensei's Divining Top helps EVERY deck. It just seems better for draft in my opinion.
What are the odds we get a Scroll Rack reprint? I have been dying to get my hands on some.
February 19, 2016 4:56 p.m.
Hoping to see some black control reprints, is that viable? - Liliana of the Veil, Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize, and tutors anyone?

Just had a thought after getting some cards in the mail for EDH use. Conspiracy used FTV art for Swords to Plowshares so if there is an elf tribal element to the set (I know, but I can hope) they could use that new Fyndhorn Elves art from FTV:20

I do not know why I keep thinking of Force of Will as a utility card. It obviously cannot be a utility card because Maro said that they were not going to print utility cards at mythic frequency, so I must be wrong about it being a utility card. Still, Force of Will sure does seem like a utility card to me. I guess I just do not understand the idea of utility cards.
February 19, 2016 11:47 p.m.
No what is really awesome is Wasteland is one of the best utility lands. Many decks will run City of Brass and Wasteland together!! It will only be a little awkward.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, I want new art foil Counterspell!! It's simple, it's easy!! I'm also sick of paying $40 for the 7th Edition Foils, (they have the best art imo).
Besides for that I want any commonly used cards(staples) at any rarity to be printed if they don't have a Foil yet. I like to foil my decks out, some cards just don't have foils yet. Like I would kill for an Ashnod's Altar foil. So many combos, no foil.

Am I being trolled? Am I missing out on some sort of inside joke? Why would anyone want Snow Duals? The Snow Duals sucked, they came in tapped with no extra abilities like a Scry or Lifegain.
