Not just a whimsical speculation thing anymore, apparently. We're getting them, behold a grainy photo from PAX of Allied Fetch Land, Flooded Strand

I was JUST about to post about this. Is this better than Zendikar fetch reprints?

about the same as. these were in Onslaught, so they are probably currently harder to come by than the zendikar block ones.

@JWiley129

Well, it's better for Modern players that have the cash to throw down, as the Onslaught fetches aren't currently Modern legal. What this reprint fails to do is lower the cost barrier to entry for new Modern players substantially. While it is possible that the Zendikar fetches dip slightly, as now decks can run their perfectly on-color fetches instead, e.g. no need for Marsh Flats in GB decks, I think that their will be an increase in demand as more players become interested in Modern. Similar to what happened with Modern Masters. Although, it hasn't yet been confirmed whether or not this cycle of fetchlands is only the Onslaught fetches or if it will include Zendikar. Probably not, but no telling currently.

Are fetches going to make Khans pack's cost more than average? if so will standard in general cost more because of fetches being reprinted?

August 31, 2014 1:51 a.m.

erabel says... #9

First of all, get hype! Fetchlands!

Second, I wanna ask anyone who understands MtG Economics: How will this affect the price of the Zendikar fetches (I figure there'll already be a minor drop in the Onslaught ones temporarily, followed by a spike because Standard demand), if at all? Like, if I don't need a playset of Misty Rainforest in a given Blue Modern deck because there are now 4 options rather than 2, will the demand for the Misty Rainforest drop at least a little bit, leading to a subsequent minor drop in price? Or am I talking nonsense?

JWiley129 says... #10

Good image for those wanting.

August 31, 2014 1:53 a.m.

This is much better than ZEN reprints because it rounds the fetch pool for Modern and gives more people access to the rarer fetches.

August 31, 2014 1:53 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #12

Fetchlands! And most people said it couldn't been done in Khans, so it must of been an emergency sort of thing to add to help modern out with new decks and and also help newcomers to come on in.

August 31, 2014 1:57 a.m.

@TwistedMoonlight

It will definitely make Khans a very high-demand set, but I bet the print run will be large enough that packs still go for retail, especially considering the vast amount of retail stores that carry them. It's only at LGS's that packs are sold above retail, and they don't make up the vast majority of the market. The cost of Standard might go up, but it kind of depends on how big the Khans print run is. I can't quite tell from the pictures, but the new fetches might be Mythic Rare, in which case they would probably maintain a pretty high price tag. Plus, there is now an unprecedented demand for them, as they're being introduced to both Standard and Modern players simultaneously.

It's tough to say, but in short I think Khans packs will go for retail, but the fetches will still run $20-$30 a pop if they're mythic. If they're rare, maybe $15 minimum, and that's being optimistic. That's just me though, I can't say for sure.

August 31, 2014 1:57 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #14

TwistedMoonlight - The packs shouldn't cost more than average, WotC won't raise the price of them b/c the rare MIGHT be a fetch land. But the secondary market/game stores might price gouge them to see if people will pay for them.

August 31, 2014 1:58 a.m.

Spootyone says... #15

Well, that's it then. Anyone else getting a booster box?

August 31, 2014 1:58 a.m.

GoblinsInc says... #16

Initial cost probably won't increase. After the initial order the demand might drive up prices.

August 31, 2014 1:59 a.m.

GoblinsInc says... #17

@Spootyone

I might get 6, now. lol.

August 31, 2014 1:59 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

CrazyLittleGuy - look at the image above I posted, those are just plain ole Rare fetchlands. Just like momma used to make :D

August 31, 2014 1:59 a.m.

slovakattack says... #19

Epochalyptik: Yeah, I totally agree. -This- right here is what I was hoping for. Having half of the fetchlands unplayable in Modern really limited the efficacy of certain color combinations.

I hope to see more Esper decks played, now that they have access to their fetches =)

August 31, 2014 1:59 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #20

@TwistedMoonlight Well, they'll cost a lot more than the temples, but the shocklands seem like the best comparison point.

I'd be pretty very surprised if the Zendikar fetches don't follow, but we might have to wait for the third set for them.

August 31, 2014 2 a.m.

Eh, don't believe my actual dollar amounts there, I'm doubting them myself already. There's just so much to take into account here.

August 31, 2014 2 a.m.

Well, it makes sense for them to print fetches in Khans because a tricolor-heavy block could certainly use the mana fixing, and this is the earliest set they could have possibly reprinted them (given that shocks are legal until Khans releases).

August 31, 2014 2:01 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #23

Price gouging won't happen for the packs. Since you can buy them at MSRP at Walmart, Target, Shopko, Kmart, Toysrus, and any huge Retailer that normally sells Magic the Gathering.

August 31, 2014 2:02 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #24

Also, here is Maro's tweet about the rarity of the Onslaught Fetches:

August 31, 2014 2:02 a.m.

So, my question now is, are they going to complete the cycle of painlands? Considering we're getting ally-color fetchlands and enemy-color painlands in subsequent blocks, are we going to have 3 complete dual cycles in Standard, or will they leave it at 2 half-cycles? Actually making me wonder, have to wait until more spoilers roll out.

August 31, 2014 2:04 a.m.

Spootyone says... #26

Maybe I'm wrong, but I assumed them only printing the enemy painlands was a consolation to the fact that they wanted to print the onslaught fetches and not the zen fetches. At least not yet.

August 31, 2014 2:07 a.m.

Blizzicane says... #27

YES YES YES! WORDS CAN'T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LONGED FOR THIS DAY! Does this mean they are going to reprint the old fetches as well in the next set? I DON'T KNOW BUT IM SO ECSTATIC, THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST NEWS I HEARD ALL MONTH Q_Q, IM GOING TO HORDE THEM ALL. >:3

Great now I need to get a job even more now better start applying. XP

August 31, 2014 2:08 a.m.

@WovenNebula: That's not necessarily true. LGSs regularly mark up their products despite availability at major retailers. Look at C13. We'd like to think that it wouldn't happen, but it does.

August 31, 2014 2:09 a.m.

subrosian says... #29

Will we see all the fetch lands in Standard at once?!

print Brainstorm again haha

August 31, 2014 2:17 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #31

subrosian - depends on if we see the Zendikar fetches printed in the 3rd set, but we don't know if that's the case.

August 31, 2014 2:17 a.m.

Man, here I was foolishly thinking I would get some sleep tonight. Fetchland hype.

August 31, 2014 2:18 a.m.

CuteSnail says... #33

CrazyLittleGuy same here, and i dont even play standard. woo fetches for edh.

August 31, 2014 2:22 a.m.

subrosian says... #34

That'd be pretty sweet.

August 31, 2014 2:22 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #35

@Epochalyptik My personal experience with C13 was that 2 of the set were gouged since walmart and other big box retailers were always sold out but the other C13 packs I could get at Msrp anywhere. I'm mainly looking at a larger print set that Walmart will not sell out of or if they do quicker to restock. Since I've never witnessed standard legal sets that were just released not available at these stores but your probably right some Lgs's may inflate the price although that would be very bad business practice on something no where near as rare as Mindseize and the like. If my LGS did that I would only do tournaments there and not purchase anything else there, unless it was indeed rare to a degree and I could understand their justification a bit more.

August 31, 2014 2:26 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #36

I bet you we will see people posting Fetchlands for trade or sale in traders forum anytime soon.

ryuzaki32667 says... #37

yea, although I wouldnt mind getting the older ones (i just like the older framed cards) but will wait since their prices will be influx and im in no rush since my older format decks are already finished

@ryuzaki32667 I agree! I love the older frames better and I don't mean the Modern Frames, I mean the classic boarders. Reminds me of classic cards, beautiful, and a lot of power! Lol

jwe94 says... #43

Not to be a bummer since this is overall good no matter how you look at it, but I can see tons of players not being able to get any of the beauties do to hoarders going to their local Walmart or whatever and buying all the Khans merchandise they can get their hands on, at least I know I've got people doing it in my town because when C13 came out someone bought all of the Mind Seize decks in a millisecond (hell they even bought all of the Yu-Gi-Oh Battle Pack 2 bundle things with a Slifer playmat back when that came out but that's a different story)

From the vantage of a more casual player it's just tiring when people hoard merchandise and scale packs and crap when all you want to do is have a little fun opening up something shiny and new

August 31, 2014 2:37 a.m.

SimicPower says... #44

Booster packs will retain their price. Khans of Tarkir will be printed a lot and be very available, so the prices of the fetches should drop. (I can't predict exactly how low.) They reprinted the shock lands in RTR and those lost value. It's only a matter of time.

August 31, 2014 2:37 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #45

Yeah I never cared for white boarders. I do like the way beta cards look though, corners and all.

August 31, 2014 2:39 a.m.

WovenNebula says... #46

C13 was more limited though and this is a bigger more massive print run. I have never seen it happen in the 20 years of playing magic. But who knows we live in crazier world and hoarders are more of a thing than ever before.

August 31, 2014 2:42 a.m.

ryuzaki32667 says... #47

didnt beta have the normal, current day corners? thought alpha had the really rounded ones

August 31, 2014 2:42 a.m.

Spootyone says... #48

I believe both alpha and beta had strange corners. Though my memory of that isn't great, seeing as I started playing only a year or two ago.

August 31, 2014 2:45 a.m.

ryuzaki32667 says... #49

I for one do not support hoarders when trading, if i notice someone no matter what always asks if you have ~ and will only trade for ~ or in thier binder have like 10 straight pages of the same type of card I wont trade with them. Get your playset of something and be done

August 31, 2014 2:45 a.m.

CuteSnail says... #50

maybe it's just my local card shop but the commander deck that had True-Name Nemesis got it's price jack way up. Modern masters packs there are up to $20 and FTV:A is selling for over $70 despite msrp being $40...
