It's not as good as Kird Ape , Loam Lion , or Wild Nacatl , which are the 1-drops of note in Modern Zoo. That said, idk how good he'll be in Standard, especially with shocks rotating.

I know it's not as good, but G/W aggro is already a thing and getting a plains out shouldn't be too difficult. I'm excited for it.

I got really excited when I heard a new batch of "Apes" was coming. But it looks like only the Sunblade Elf will see any play.

The one thing that I like is that when you look at the rumors of fetch lands being reprinted, the onslaught fetches match up perfectly with each one of these guys. Not saying it confirms anything. They also look really good in limited as they can easily be activated and their secondary abilities are pretty decent

I like that the pairings are a bit odd (say, the blue one needs swamps - who plays UB aggro?), I think that makes limited open to a good number more possibilities. I don't really think that any of these need to be competitive viable, per se, they're all awesome tools for limited. The elf guy is alright, especially in GW aggro where a 2/2 for 1 is always welcome. What I really like though is the recurring activated abilities. The black one is pretty much the ultimate bomb in pack wars.

Overall, I think that this cycle is right where it should be for a core set.
