FTVs aren't booster boxes ninjaclevs13. They're box set of predetermined cards. Fifteen cards all centered around a common theme with a couple of the more beloved cards receiving new arts and all of them getting really crappy foiling. It's primarily for collectors. Usually intended to remain in the box. Although EDH players just LOVE to use them in their decks for some reason.
For example, this shown art for Wrath of God was from the FTV: Annihilation set from 2014 I believe. It was a collection of all the most famous board wipes in the game's history. The art there is an image of Heliod, God of the Sun destroying Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Hence literal wrath of a god.
So since that was a very vague description - what do you think they'll actually print in this FTV? O_O
JTMS? That'd be funny.

Oh, cool, I really wanted a foil Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Teferi, Temporal Archmage, and Gerrard Capashen...
Seems like another terrible FTV unless there's like a Karn Liberated and some other card that's more than just cube playable.

Well since all the cards will be from important moments in Magic's lore, I hope to see Titania, Protector of Argoth since she stood between Urza and Mishra in the Brother's War. I just want a foil version of her. A guy can dream, right?
February 29, 2016 11:48 a.m.
Although I don't really want 'lore' cards, I know i'm going to end up getting it...
February 29, 2016 11:48 a.m.
My card guesses, based on 'Lore'.
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
Skyship Weatherlight
Dark Depths
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury
Jeska, Warrior Adept
Near-Death Experience
Serra Ascendant or Serra Avatar
Eldrazi Monument - Is there something better for the 'release' of the Eldrazi?
Tolaria West
Conflux
Temporal Fissure
Yawgmoth's Agenda
... there's a bunch more, but they are on the reserved list, like Yawgmoth's Will or Yawgmoth's Bargain, Serra's Sanctum... or have been in a FTC already, like Progenitus or Child of Alara
Most are self explanatory (if you know lore)... Near-Death Experience is add as pointing to the 'typical' way a Planeswalker spark ignites.

Maybe Eye of Ugin instead of Eldrazi Monument.

Servo_Token says... #16
Maybe like a Xenagos, God of Revels or something else to represent some of the more recent story arcs as well.
February 29, 2016 12:30 p.m.
Was Mox Diamond on the reserve list (if it existed at that time) when they did FtV:Relics?

Looks like Momir Vig, Simic Visionary on the profile art. Hopefully some more EDH stuff reprinted!
February 29, 2016 12:35 p.m.
Servo_Token says... #19
They remade their reserve policy after the diamond came out to not include premium cards for the reserve list.
I worded that poorly, but as of like 2010, they cannot reprint reserve list cards in things like FTV

I'm very curious to see what we will get from this. Subscribing!

Will it be better than the last 2 years of questionable FTW? Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion. Bam-Bam-Baaahhh.
February 29, 2016 2:20 p.m.
FTV Angels was packed with value. What are you talking about? Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Iona, Shield of Emeria, and Entreat the Angels are $41 on their own. People generally payed $35 to $60 for the whole box. That's prety good.
February 29, 2016 2:44 p.m. Edited.
TheDevicer I dont know what its like where you are from, but in my country (sweden) the FTV products are priced based on the contents value. FTV20 still cost $150, even at our equivalent of wallmart. Packed with value is not a thing here. What im interested in is cards that are hard to come by, like Imperial Recruiter or Ravages of War. To reprint cards that are hard to come by should be the soul purpose of FTV. Angels had nothing except barely expensive cards that you could as well buy on their own and thus avoid the ridiculously terrible foiling of FTV cards.
February 29, 2016 2:55 p.m.
If they reprinted cards like those in FTV every single collector would leave the game.
Might as well just throw in Imperial Seal and Grim Tutor while we're at it.
February 29, 2016 3:02 p.m.
@smackjack - Oh God. I'm so sorry. I'm glad I no longer live in Finland. Here in the states, you can usually find FTV products at MSRP or slightly above. My buddy got the angels one for $35 and is sitting on it atm.
February 29, 2016 3:06 p.m.
TMBRLZ: well, Burning of Xinye was in Annihilation. Im not saying they should reprint every card that are expensive due to their rarity, but its the one product where these kinds of reprints makes the most sense. Why buy 15 cards as a bundle when it would be cheaper to buy the original cards you want on TCG?
February 29, 2016 3:26 p.m.
smackjack, there are people on this site that will buy products and send overseas. I (US) wouldn't mind doing it for an example. Every now and again I do want things from the euro market.
February 29, 2016 3:34 p.m. Edited.
Because collectors.
FTV is designed with collectors. Not players.
Hence the name "From The Vault."
It's supposed to add a sort of market value to it's idea.
As I said when I was explaining what FTV is to ninjaclevs, FTV is primarily for collectors and ideally shouldn't even come out of the box. It's to stick on a shelf and have it look pretty so you can say "Look I collected all these." It's the same concept as most people collecting Pop Figures (which I also do). You ideally don't take them out of the box. You enjoy their face value from the packaging and keep it that way to retain it's value.
It's just for Wizards to make money. Lots of money for a lot of cards that honestly don't see that much play and have really god awful foiling.
To that same degree reprinting a lot of those historic "Only one or two printing" portal cards and things similar to that nature will have adverse affects on collectors. Collectors are just as much a part of the market as players are, even if Wizards more outspokenly supports the player market. They don't want to hurt their revenue by isolating a certain consumer group.
February 29, 2016 3:38 p.m.
TMBRLZ Well im guessing WOTC has other plans for FTV than pleasing virgins and their bookshelves.
"for collectors and ideally shouldn't even come out of the box". That, i guarantee you, is NOT the companies purpose for the product.
February 29, 2016 4:06 p.m. Edited.
Wait... Those pop figures will have long term value? I have a box of beanie babies I wanna sell you, lol.
Anyone buying magic cards should do so knowing they have no real value other than the joy they give you when you show your friends... They are just colorful paper after all.
February 29, 2016 5:05 p.m.
Nothing has inherent value. It's our perception of those things that causes us to ascribe value to them. Magic cards have value because we've deemed that they do.

If this is true TheDevicer, then I'll take your fetches and AEther Vials and other good cards you happen to have. They don't really have any value. May as well help a poor child, right?
February 29, 2016 5:31 p.m.
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is the poster child? Looks like I'll be buying this FTV for this alone. I need me a shiny commander...
Plus, I'm a Vorthros who is ready to delve into the delicious lore of the cards. I'm excited, and my wallet already hurts.
February 29, 2016 5:50 p.m.
ninjaclevs13 - I think you may have missed the point. What I'm trying to say is that nothing has inherent value. Cardboard and gold are just arrangements of atoms. However, that doesn't mean that we can't think about those things as having value. Worth is a construct. We create it. A copy of Polluted Delta is worth money because we've deemed it to be a desirable thing. It's worth trying to have. Yes, it's just cardboard, but it's cardboard we want and like. That gives it value. I'm not going to give you my fetches because I think of them as valuable. I'm not alone in feeling that way either.

I agree that that character in the image is almost certainly Momir Vig, but that alone does not reveal what the main theme of this set shall be. The angels and dragons sets in this series had very clear themes, but this set is more akin to exiled or twenty in that it is very vague about what cards it may contain.
Is anyone here disappointed that only three of the fifteen cards in this set shall have new artwork? How can WotC be that cheap? Surely, they have sufficient money to pay artists to illustrate more than merely three pieces of new artwork?

Pokemaster325- From the Vaults are sets that only contain reprinted cards.
March 2, 2016 2:27 a.m.
I'm excited. I own all the FtV sets. I have to disagree that they should be kept in the box though. They are prime printing for my EDH decks.
Again I will say how much I disagree that the foil process is bad in FtV. I find the foil much nicer and the FtV cards are much more resistant to warping.
March 2, 2016 5:15 p.m.
Well I have a multiple cases of barely touched NM FTV cards at the shop that would disagree with you, but if they aren't warping for you than more power to you my friend. :)
March 2, 2016 5:17 p.m.
All foils warp, that is inevitable. I just find that the FtV cards tend to be more resilient.
Now what kind of cards are you talking about? How many do you have? Looking to lighten your load? :)

Rayenous: Reserved list doesn't actually stop WotC from printing shit. Phyrexian Negator says hello.
Also, set added.
March 2, 2016 5:33 p.m.
Lol we've bought up a lot of collections lately so there's quite a few FTV cards lying around from various sets but the most blatant ones I've taken time to recognize are the Annihilation ones. I know we have some more though. Probably most sitting in boxes in the back room waiting to be sorted and priced. I won't derail this thread though with specifics of my LGS though.
If you're honestly interested in getting some FTV singles private message me and I can check my shop and put you in contact with the owner if we've got anything you're looking to get shipped to you.
March 2, 2016 5:35 p.m.
Femme_Fatale: The printing of Phyrexian Negator in the 'Phyrexia vs the Coalition' Duel Deck, as well as a few other cards, such as Mox Diamond in 'FTV: Relics' were before the most recent update to their policy.
Previously, they were able to print 'Premium' versions of Reserve List cards, in 'supplemental products'.
Currently, Reserve List cards can only be "printed" in MTGO, and these online cards cannot be made available for 'trade-in' into real cards.

So, is anyone else curious what the token's gonna be and if it's going to be foil as well? Like, who/what made tokens that was important from a Lore perspective? Rhys the Redeemed, maybe, but I don't think so. If it was, that'd be sweet, though.
March 4, 2016 1:28 a.m.
Ya know, 'From the Vault: Lore' sounds a tad redundant. At least, in the spirit of the Product.
