Future Khan's sets?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

I had somebody at my last FNM tell me that the Khans set wasn't going to be entirely tri-color friendly. He said only the first one or two sets were going to be and then either the second or third, after the 'time travel' aspect, were going to revert to more mono colored.

Was he full of BS? Anyone have information regarding this one way or the other?

Thanks!

Only the first block is tri-color. Not sure about the rest though.

Pretty sure MaRo discussed this subtly in Metamorphosis.

Wizards has put out that information that the first set "khans of tarkir" will have a wedge focus, but the entire block won't be entirely focused on the wedges. People are speculating that one of the sets will be mono colored, but other than the fact they said the whole block wouldn't be wedge focused there is no actual basis for this. At this point, it's just purely speculation. The other sets could still easily be heavily multicolored just not as much as this first has been. One of the sets could have an even greater focus on Ugin, which could mean it could have a large focus on colorless spells and creatures. Everything right now is just speculation though, the only thing we know for sure is that the second set will be called Fate Reforged and the third set is code named "Louie".

Mark Rosewater has said repeatedly that Khans of Tarkir the SET is a wedge set, and Khans of Tarkir the BLOCK is not a wedge block. This has led people to assume that with the whole time-travel thing that the block will progress away from multi-colored. That also sort of goes with the policy that Wizards has (though maybe not anymore) of putting a good amount of time between multicolored blocks.

I think the second set is going to be mainly monocolored and the third set is going to be a butterfly effect type thing where the clans are shards instead of wedges.

We know that Khans is a wedge set but not a wedge block, we also know that the block will go Big/Small/Big the small sets being drafted with either Big set but neither Big set being drafted at the same time, this pretty much tells us that the two big sets are too incompatible to play together (at least in a limited format)

Here is a copy/paste of some current speculation, thought is might be good for a read.

Nissa. Sorin and Ugin sealed the Eldrazi on Zendikar.

Chandra, Jace and Sarkhan (on Nicol Bolas' orders) release the Eldrazi.

All the dragons on Tarkir were hunted to extinction.

Scourge was a dragon-themed third set with a cataclysmic aftermath.

MaRo has stated he wanted to re-do Scourge as it didn't do the theme justice first time around.

Onslaught block (including Scourge) had Morph. Khans has Morph.

Onslaught had fetches.
Khans has fetches.

Khans block is Big/Little/Big. Zendikar block was Big/Little/Big.

Nissa is in M15. Sarkhan is in KTK Sorin is in KTK Ugin's Nexus is a card in KTK.

Conclusion:

-The third set (Lewey) will be a Rise of the Eldrazi/Scourge mash-up with Eldrazi fighting dragons in an epic battle for the fate of Tarkir.

-KTK is ONS v2.0 minus the tribal theme (thanks to Lorwyn).

-Nicol Bolas will make an appearance. Possibly new card.

-Ugin, if alive, will have a card.

-Nissa, Sorin and Sarkhan will seal Bolas (and eldrazi if present) into a new hedron prison.

-An Eldrazi titan, if present, will die permanently and we will go back to Zendikar within a year to mop up Eldrazi Spawn.

@SoPringles Mark Rosewater said they started with the odd draft format and the time travel story was something they came up with to explain why the set would be drafted in the way it does. So I wouldn't say that it necessarily means the first and third set are completely incompatible because they knew the first set would never be drafted with the third set before they even went into card design. Knowing they wouldn't be drafted together maybe they didn't focus too much on card interactions between the first and last set (from a limited perspective), so it's still possible that they are just completely incompatible. But, that's really just speculation at this point like everything else.

Maybe it's another "enemies become allies to fight a common foe" storyline but told in reverse so the second set might be mono color or alley color and the last set just mono color.

Maybe we will see the enemy wedge dragons from Planar Chaos.

The absurd amount of multicolored (more than ravnica and alara for sure) and lack of mono-colored options makes me think the rest will be more mono-colored based.
