Garruk is the black planeswalker in M15

Not conclusive proof but my lgs has received information about the M15 pre-release and been instructed to put up a lifesize black Garruk cardboard cut out as promotional material for the event

Hjaltrohir says... #2

From the leaked pictures and the D15 trailers, I thought he was as well so this proves my theory :)

Hjaltrohir says... #3

*Almost proves my theory

Does this mean that there are going to be 2 black planeswalkers in M15 because they are probably printing Liliana Vess

The green planeswalker is apparently going to be a new Nissa Revane .

ChiefBell says... #4

Who knows? I don't think they'd have more than planeswalker per colour in a core set. Might put some players off.

June 8, 2014 1:58 p.m.

pantseater says... #5

B/G Garruk maybe?

June 8, 2014 1:59 p.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #6

There probably won't be a multi-color planeswalker in a core set

June 8, 2014 2:01 p.m.

kmcree says... #7

I think not having a Lili will put more players off than if they had 2 black walkers.

June 8, 2014 2:06 p.m.

kintighd says... #8

I have trouble believing he will be mono black. i think they would be more likely to put a multicolor planeswalker in a core set, than move one of the lorwyn 5 to a new color.

June 8, 2014 2:09 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #9

New players like bad planeswalkers, so there's really no reason to not have 6 instead of the 5.

June 8, 2014 2:10 p.m.

zandl says... #10

@ChiefBell: Is the cutout of the actual Magic card? If it's just a picture of Garruk as a cardboard cut-out, then that doesn't prove anything. Every bit of promotional content for M15 thus far has been almost entirely in black and white.

BuLLZ3Y3 says... #11

A Black/Green Garruk wouldn't surprise me at all. In fact, I was kind of expecting it. And not the way that Flip Garruk was B/G, but a legitimate hybrid, like Vraska.

Who knows, maybe he'll be really good, and a solid Junk control shell can be possible, with Ajani and Garruk. That'd be sweet.

Nissa isn't dead, Maro has said several times that they have big plans for Nissa.

I looked it up after commenting and she is still alive, I forgot what happened during her and sorins travel to the hedron.

maiden77 says... #16

also mulitcoloured planeswalkers are already done i core sets, Nicol Bolas is the one. Might mean another black green Garruk. I would hate for him to be mono black, black/green would rock

June 8, 2014 3:34 p.m.

Yeah I'm expecting it'd to be the Lorwyn Five with Nissa for mono-green while Garruk fills the spot Nicol Bolas had in m13 as Multicolored Walker the coreset is marketed around. Granted we've only had one other multicolored card in a coreset: aforementioned Brolas.

That said I hardly see why they can't include Garruk as a multicolored card. He's a mythic so it's not like he'll turn up in limited a lot and multicolored cards aren't really /that/ hard to grasp.

We've also yet to see a walker change in color alignment completely; as in they reach a point where they share no colors with their first incarnation, It seems to me to be a stretch that Garruk would go from mono-green origins to mono-black. Fun Fact, btw: Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip is actually multicolored, G/B

June 8, 2014 3:37 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #18

zandl - I don't know. I haven't yet seen an example.

June 8, 2014 4:15 p.m.

zandl says... #19

I doubt it's the card. My old LGS has a giant cardboard cut-out of Gideon Jura for the M13 release. If that's the case, then I also highly doubt it means Garruk will be mono-Black or the Black walker on his own.

June 8, 2014 4:49 p.m.

Lol, I see what you did there maiden77, B/G Garruk would rock, as in The Rock. Haha, so punny XD.

All seriousness, I expect him to be multicolored, however, I suppose Nissa could also be the B/G walker since she learned a little black magic? I could dig a green Garruk and a B/G Nissa. I don't know how that would tie into her history with elves, though. But, yeah, I believe Garruk is almost assuredly B/G.

Drathen says... #21

Screw Liliana, can we have Sorin back as the sixth planeswalker?

June 9, 2014 12:51 a.m.

Sorin would make an awesome comeback, however speculation on the m15 planeswalkers originates from a cycle of toys that Funko is releasing: here is the link. In the cycle, Nissa, Garruk, and Liliana and all present, along with others like Jace and Ajani. Some have taken this as which planeswalkers will be present for m15 (obviously, including Nissa in the cycle along with Garruk is eyebrow-raising.), however Liliana is present in that cycle. The common belief is that Liliana is the B walker, Nissa is the G walker, and Garruk is going to be B/G.

I also saw a pic on some tappedout post that mentioned Gideon's name, but I can't find a source now. But, yeah, here's hoping for Gideon Jura .

Sorry to double post, but I forgot to link you Drathen.

I am so down for Lilliana to be printed, her plus Waste Not? Yeah im in haha

June 10, 2014 1:31 a.m.

Wolfninja says... #25

There's no way Garruk will be mono black, my guess is that he'll be black green, and Nissa will take the place as the new mono green walker. On a side note, I think the Liliana will be Liliana Vess because her +1 makes babies with Waste Not (so does Liliana of the Veil , but I can't see her being reprinted in a core set).

June 11, 2014 1:04 a.m.

Servo_Token says... #26

Ohh, lorwyn set being reprinted? I'm down for an M15 Jace Beleren

June 12, 2014 2:54 p.m.

Wolfninja says... #28

Well, I think that confirms there will be 6 planeswalkers in M15, meaning that Nissa will be the new green one, and Garruk will be mutlicolored.

June 12, 2014 4:29 p.m.

Drathen says... #29

Seeing the DotP promo video, it just straight out says Garruk is hunting other planewalkers.

Sounds definitely black to me.

June 12, 2014 6:42 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #30

I can't wait for a BG Garruk, that will be awesome.

On an unrelated note...4 of the Lorwyn five have appeared in a block in the past 3 years...we haven't seen Chandra in block since we last saw...Sarkhan...

June 12, 2014 6:50 p.m.

Kingzerker says... #31

Am I the only person who is actually hoping for a mono black Garruk? I think it would be really cool and an important step in the development of planeswalkers as a card type and for Garruk's character within the story. Yes it's different and something we haven't seen before but isn't that a good thing? I don't see any real downside other than upsetting a few people who would find something else to complain about anyways. I'm all for a black Garruk in M15!

June 12, 2014 7:13 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #32

I don't like 6 planeswalkers in one set. That's crazy high. Apart from that - anything goes.

June 12, 2014 8:42 p.m.

Thanks for the pic, ChiefBell. That's the one I was referring to.

June 13, 2014 11:54 p.m.

Ultimaodin says... #34

Lilliana has already been mentioned as in the set, so fundamentally Garruk would have to be Black/Green.

I also can not see him fitting a control shell. Garruk has a tendency to solve things with his brute force, and he's expected to be more wild than before. I'd love to see a neg ability that would be non-land beast within and a plus that puts a beast horror token onto your field... I guess that would suit a control shell actually. Wow, bug control could be a thing with Kiora as well.. probably more a tempo build. No idea what B/G Garruk would have an ulti, some kind of overrun ability... although that's been done before. I was thinking me may not have an ulti and just turn himself into some giant trampling monster but with Gideon as the white walker that just wouldn't work. :/

B/G usually has grave interaction but that doesn't suit Garruk at all.

June 14, 2014 1:44 a.m.

Ultimaodin says... #35

Garruk, Cursed Hunter

3BG

+1: Put two 3/3 Black and Green Beast Horror token into play.

-1: Destroy target permanent, that permanent's controller puts a 3/3 Black and Green Beast Horror token into play.

-7: Creatures you control gain +2/+2, Trample and Deathtouch until end of turn.

Something like that.

sylvannos says... #36

I've heard the black planeswalker will be a Liliana of the Veil reprint, with a multicolor Garruk.

Most of this is speculation based on WotC's blogs (such as MaRo saying things like "Lilly will be reprinted soon (tm).") Take this with a grain of salt. Remember when Watsee told us we'd get lands from Future Sight and everyone was giddy for Nimbus Maze and we got shitty scry lands instead?

June 14, 2014 3:51 a.m.

zandl says... #37

I seriously doubt we'll see a reprint of Liliana of the Veil . That card crapped all over Standard just as much as the Titans did at the time.

June 14, 2014 4:34 a.m.

strateupjee says... #38

She did, but in the current standard, I don't know that she would be nearly as effective as she was in Standard or as she is in Modern. She has to be built around a bit, and we don't have all the tools to do that.

June 14, 2014 2:12 p.m.

zandl says... #40

M13 has 6 Planeswalkers and the only ones that really saw tier-1 play out of them were Jace, Memory Adept (1-of win-con) and Garruk, Primal Hunter (a 3-of bomb).

June 14, 2014 3:01 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #41

Huh. Good point.

June 14, 2014 4:01 p.m.

I know it isn't likely, but I'd be totally down for a Liliana of the Veil reprint. Really, it should happen.

June 14, 2014 5:41 p.m.

Drathen says... #43

She is mini-Jayce...Id rather not have her in standard.

June 14, 2014 6:05 p.m.

Duels of the planeswalkers this year is focused on the Veil Cursed Garruk and he is black in the curse edition of him in Innistrad after he transforms or Flips as its called. This year Wizards wanted a full on Bad Ass Black Garruk or they are reprinting innistrads veil cursed Garruk which would be weird because it would be a flip. So best guess yes Mono Black Garruk or B/G/(1).

June 17, 2014 1:50 a.m.

B/G/(2) Realisticly though veil cursed garruk was 3 cmc

June 17, 2014 1:53 a.m.

zandl says... #46

We've never before seen a Planeswalker completely give up on his/her base color, though. There's nothing to suggest that Garruk will be mono-black and I'd be completely blown away if he was, especially after seeing that Liliana is confirmed in the Core Set as well - and why would they make two mono-black Walkers in the same set?

June 17, 2014 1:54 a.m.

zandl says... #47

Uh. Garruk Relentless  Flip was definitely 4 CMC.

Technically speaking, Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip had a CMC of 0.

June 17, 2014 1:55 a.m.

Drathen says... #48

Here, some more proof hes gonna be B/G or mono B:

So this little quote about DOTP15 says it all really

"The Curse of the Chain Veil has corrupted Garruks body and soul. His skin has paled, his flesh struck through with blackened veins. His hunters instinct has turned away from beasts of the wild toward the ultimate quarryPlaneswalkers!"

Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip is B/G but that was at the initial point of transforming, so I can see him possibly going full black. Interestingly I wonder if he will have a specific "do something to a planeswalker/player" ability. Seeing as we the players are ourselves planeswalkers, but dealing damage would be red, discard would be too Lilly. I guess we shall find out soon!

June 18, 2014 10:43 a.m.

Asher18 says... #50

well that's why Nissa Revane is gunna make a reapperance! they COULD have another multicolored planeswalker... i mean look at Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker !
