Alright so I was just wondering what you all thought about how the gods are going to turn out for journey into nyx! Personally I was slightly disappointed with all the gods of the recent set except for [xenagos, God of revels]]. So what do you think their toughness, power, mana cost and abilities will be. Here's some of my thoughts.
Keranos, God of storms 3(UR)
6/4
Indestructible
Whenever a you cast a sorcery or instant, copy that spell. You may choose New copies for that target.
Kruphix, God of horizons
5/5
Indestructible
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control' put two +1/+1 counters on that creature.
Iroas, God of victory
5/7 (opposite of mogis?)
Indestructible
Whenever you play a spell targeting a creature that you control, that creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn.
What do you guys think?

I really like that Baycer, it doesn't seem too broken either. Heck, based on Ephara, God of the Polis , I could see that ability on a 4-drop.
February 21, 2014 3:05 p.m.
Your Keranos is too OP maybe if it had to do with scry but in a format with heros downfall, lightning strike and shock it would be just too powerful
February 23, 2014 3:02 p.m.
Maybe this:
Kruphix, God of Horizons 3UG
Devotion, Indestructable, god stuff, etc.
Green creatures you control have: 1G and tap: reveal the top card of library: if it't a creature card you may put it into your hand.Blue creatures you control have: U: Untap this creature.
5/5
Combines the prophet's untap with the courser's reveal top card, plays well with multicolored and inspired! What do you guys think?

It does synergize well with other cards/mechanics, but i don't think the abilities will be mana-abilities. The other minor gods' abilities has been static, and i don't think that will change. Would be a cool card tough!

ChrisHansonBiomancin says... #6
Actually, with the exception of Phenax, God of Deception , all of the minor Gods in BotG have triggered abilities ("whenever" or "at" are the key words for triggers), so not only is Baycer's idea cool, it fits in with the others. It would be a lot like Ephara, God of the Polis . Static abilities were found on all of the Theros Gods except Purphoros, God of the Forge , such as Nylea, God of the Hunt granting trample.

And Cynergy's idea wouldn't be unprecedented due to Phenax, but it does seem a little broken lol :)

Oletorpedo says... #8
True! What I meant to say was that none of the multicolor-gods have abilities that cost mana to trigger, sorry. It's early here in Norway, I'll blame it on me not getting enough coffee yet =)
February 26, 2014 4:17 a.m.
Like has been said before, it's very possible that the Nyx gods will be able to synergize with the cards in next fall's block. Wizards likes doing that.
February 26, 2014 10:37 a.m.
I'm hoping Pharkia will dosomething with with life drain or scavenge
February 26, 2014 9:49 p.m.
They wot give Pharos scavenging abilities because that's a ravnica ability while no creatures on this block have it
February 27, 2014 7 a.m.

On the images, I would totally run Atheros but he is just too broken lol.
February 27, 2014 10:41 a.m.
Looking at the flavor text of the only 2 cards that metion Pharika: Pharika's Mender and Pharika's Cure it looks like Pharkia will propally have something like pay 2 life destroy target nonland permant.

Keranos is the God of Inspiration.
Most Iroas concepts I've seen all seemed a bit OP from an objective viewpoint (the one above, with the sweet art, seems a wee bit ~under~powered actually), so this is my personal take (sorry for the crappy grainy art, heh):
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/iroas-god-of-victory-5
March 4, 2014 2:13 a.m.
Schuesseled I like it but i think it would be less broken if it was 3 GB with deathtouch
March 5, 2014 5:14 a.m.
Keranos,is the god of epiphany; says so on the card Bolt of Keranos in the flavor text.

Keranos, God of Epihpany 3UR Devo 7 Indestructable Whenever you scry, Keranos, God of Epiphany deals 3 damage divided as you choose to any number of creatures or players.6/7
Kruphix, God of Evolution 2UG Devo 7 Indestructable Whenever a land comes into play under your control, if it was a Forest or an Island, put a +1/+1 counter are another targer creature you control.5/6
Iroas, God of Destinies 2RW Devo 7 Indestructable Whenever you cast a spell that targets another creature you control, that creature gains double strike and vigilance until end of turn.7/5
Pharika, God of Reaping 3GB Devo 7 Indestructable At the begining of your upkeep, you may sacrifice another creature you control. If you do, you may cast a creature with converted mana cost X or less from a graveyard without paying its mana cost where X is your devotion to green and black.4/5
Vizkopa, God of Sinners 3BW Devo 7 Indestructable At the beginning of your upkeep, you may reveal the top card of your library and put it into your hand. You lose life equal to that card's converted mana cost.5/7
New Planeswalker ideas:
Dack Fayden RU2 (+2) Look at the top card of your deck. (-1) You may copy the next instant or sorcery spell you cast this turn. (-4) Take an extra turn after this one. Starting Loyalty: 2
Loranay, Holy Enchantress GGW3 (+1) Search your library for a basic land card and put that card into play tapped. Then shuffle your library. (0) You may play an additional land this turn. Populate. (-X) Add X mana of any color to your mana pool.(-10) You get an emblem with "mana does not drain from your mana pool between phases or turns" Starting Loyalty: 4

I really want a G/B Wrath. I feel that is what Golgari needs right now. Gaze of Granite is too slow/expensive to take care of much besides tokens.
Would love Pharika to be a functional Grave Pact
6/7 Indestructable "Whenever a creature you control dies, each other player sacrifices a creature"
March 8, 2014 3:36 p.m.
They're probably going to have something to do with creatures, as the others one do. Have indestructible, be seven devotion, and have 4-7 power/toughness.
Keranos, God of Epihpany 2UR When a creature you control enters the battlefield, Scry 1, deal 1 damage to target creature or player.
Kruphix, God of the Secrets 2UG When a creature you control enters the battlefield, you may play an additional land card this turn. Place a +1/+1 counter on target creature, untap that creature.
Iroas, God of Victory 3RW At the beginning of your combat step, creatures you control recieve +2/+0 till end of turn. At the beginning of your opponents upkeep, creatures you control recieve +0/+2 till end of turn.
Pharika, God of Vitalization 2GB At the end of declare blockers steps target creature you control receives regeneration and deathtouch, till end of turn.
Vizkopa, God of Pennance 3BW At the the begging of your opponents upkeep, your opponent takes 1 damage for each creature they control, unless they tap that creature. Gain 1 life for each damage dealt this way.
March 13, 2014 3:46 p.m.
March 2nd I believe, very interested to see what they come out with myself.

I hope the "Golgari god" does something with the graveyard...maybe some kind of reanimation or something
March 19, 2014 9:02 a.m.
APPLE01DOJ says... #27
I just hope the Golgari god is playable.
Halfway afraid we'll get something like...
BBGG3
Indestructable
If there is 10 or less devotion in your graveyard Pharika isn't a creature
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose a card at random in your graveyard. If it's a creature card, put it onto the battlefield. Otherwise, put it into your hand.

I hope we get some spoilers soon :P. I'm pumped for enemy colored gods. I think graveyard devotion would be possible but unlikely. And if a god were to have that sort of thing it would be Atheros since I've heard he's like Charon. But I hope not.

APPLE01DOJ says... #29
lol I have to disagree Deadbridge Chant
Don't get me wrong, I sure hope that's not it. I would be 10x happier with the above mentioned "G/B Pay 2 Life: Destroy target nonland permanent"
lol Graveyard devotion for golgari, come on that's the awesome obvious choice. hope WOTC considered it.

I was just stating that Atheros takes guys to the Underworld (so I've read/been told). So it could make sense for him. But like you mentioned, it would make more sense color wise.

I had an idea for Kruphix: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/kruphix-god-of-mysteries-2By the way, the art (which was released by WTC as an ad for JOU game day) is the real art or depiction of Kruphix.

Rhinowarrior pretty soon I think, I know that the release is on May 2nd from what I've read but I'll have to look again for the spoil date
April 2, 2014 11:49 p.m.
THE GODS' NAMES HAVE BEEN REVEALED:
Krupix, God of Horizons
Iroas, God of Victory
Atheros, God of Passage
Keranos, God of Storms
Pharika, God of Affliction

Affliction sounds like Deathtouch, but her descript sounds like regeneration.
...maybe I'm crazy but I wouldn't even be surprised to see the words "Infect" on the card.

There's some great ideas so far!
Here are some mockups I made based on the art released in The Planeswalker's Guide to Journey Into Nyx.

Rhinowarrior says... #39
@ Phlight i really like all of those ideas but a couple could be tweaked. For keranos, maybe make it so that at the beginning of you upkeep scry 3. Whenever you place a card on the bottom of your library from scry, deal 2 damage to target creature or player? is that too op?
April 3, 2014 4:55 p.m.
I think iroas is going to be opposite mogis. At the beginning of your upkeep put some token into play or gain two life.
April 3, 2014 5 p.m.
Thanks Rhinowarrior, I actually used a combination of things to make them more realistic. I used http://www.mtgcardmaker.com/ as the base, and then I used Photoshop to add the Enchantment Creature border, the Enchantment Creature type, the Journey Into Nyx Symbol, and the thin colored border.
I don't think your version of Keranos is too OP, it seems fair if you only scry 3.
My thought process was that since he's also the god of insight with the ability to give momentary glimpses into the future (based on http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ur/293, Scrying 4 would make him more unique. And since the number of cards you want on the bottom could vary, keeping a card on top and dealing 3 damage seemed like a fair balance. But the flexibility to be able to keep none and deal 4 damage is not too OP either.
April 3, 2014 8:44 p.m.
Rhinowarrior says... #43
Keep none as in you must put all of them on the bottom? Then deal 4 damage per?16 damage would be a lot if that's why u meant. And oh sounds complicated but the cards look really good nonetheless!
April 3, 2014 10:10 p.m.
No, you don't have to put them all on the bottom. You can if you want to, just like regular scrying. And you only deal 1 damage per card. 4 maximum.
Anyways, I made some more mockups (it's actually quite fun!). I think some of the concepts for these are better (Pharika, Athreos), and others are just different. Thoughts? Feedback is definitely welcome.
April 4, 2014 12:14 a.m.
I think keranos will be, at the beginning of ur upkeep, scry (some amount (if he costs 4 or 5 then 1, if he costs 6 or 7, then 2 or 3) then reveal the top card of your library. Keranos deals damage equal to card's cmc to target creature or player.
April 4, 2014 2:17 a.m.
I doubt any of the gods will cost more than 5 mana, looking back on the BNG gods.
Phenax, God of Deception being 5
Xenagos, God of Revels being 5
Mogis, God of Slaughter being 4
Karametra, God of Harvests being 5
Ephara, God of the Polis being 4
If anything, I'm going to guess 3 4 drop gods and 2 5 drops so that there's an even number of 4 and 5 drop dual colored gods.

@Phlight cool idea for your second pharika but probally to niche to be a mythic rare. Monstrosity applies to about 20 cards.
April 4, 2014 3:44 p.m.
Thanks Rhinowarrior. This Pharika is really niche, I came up with that idea because I couldn't come up with anything in B/G besides variations on -1/-1 or an opponent loses life and you gain life.
Then, looking at other mechanics in the block that might have been less obvious, I came up with this idea, mostly because the only black monstrous creatures were the gorgons, Hythonia the Cruel
and Keepsake Gorgon
. A good majority of the rest of the Monstrous cards are green (Arbor Colossus
, Polukranos, World Eater
, Nessian Asp
, Nemesis of Mortals
with Fleecemane Lion
and Polis Crusher
if you splash another color).
Also, Jund Monsters is a fairly popular deck in Standard right now so this Pharika may be able to fit in with this ability. I don't see people splashing green in mono black decks where the -1/-1's or life draining might fit. Out of the remaining gods, I think there are high hopes for Iroas and Athreos for Boros and Orzhov decks. Izzet, Golgari and Simic aren't as strong right now, but the gods could change that.
