This card makes me drool. It's almost always going to either result in drawing in a removal spell or a 2/more-for 1/ So excite.
Not to mention that if they try to burn it it still fires off hornets. God, I love this card. It's a great time to be a green mage.

I doubt it will be a thing, but this + Blasphemous Act seems good.
July 2, 2014 3:10 p.m.
This seems good in Limited, idk about Constructed though. In a Standard with Hero's Downfall and plenty of exile effects (Banishing Light ), idk if you'd get Hornets as often as you'd like.

Flying AND Deathouch. Nasty. I'm also happy because I collect tokens.
July 2, 2014 3:12 p.m.
JWiley129: While you're quite right, I'm also perfectly fine with a 1-for-1 that involves there Hero's Downfall and my 0/2 defender. And now that green has access to a good bit of card advantage through Courser of Kruphix and Life's Legacy , I'm really happy with it.
July 2, 2014 3:12 p.m.
@Unforgivn_II GOOD. LORD. btw, Aegis Angel will also be in standard with it.

make it indestructable and infinite mana and then fireball it for a bajillion (not the opponent). Also Hornet Sting it.
July 2, 2014 3:14 p.m.
Btw, have you guys seen the new tokens in M15? Here's the Insect one for reference:

Now that I think about it, Nest + Act seems really good. You wipe out the board and get 13 flyers to swing with. Maybe put in a Boros Reckoner and the horse from Eventide that does the same thing as Reckoner and you can have a gnarly deck. It would have to be casual (too much non-damage removal in Modern), but fun at the very least

I'm quite surprised a "NOT THE BEES" meme isn't in this thread yet. C'mon guys, you're slacking...
July 2, 2014 3:27 p.m.
@JWiley129: Bees, Hornets, Snakes, who cares. They're all pure evil.

Let me just put this out there:
Chandra, Pyromaster
.
Let that sink in for a second.
July 2, 2014 3:45 p.m.
Now I will not rest until WOTC makes flying deathtouch snake tokens...
July 2, 2014 3:45 p.m.
Turns Barbed Field into a better Squirrel Nest .
Or just play Squirrel Nest.
July 2, 2014 3:49 p.m.
Ohthenoises: Are you saying this card matches up well against Chandra or poorly? It seems great against her to me, but I miss things often.

T3 Hornet's Nest.
T4 Chandra, Pyromaster
+1 Ping self and Hornet's Nest. Get a 1/1 DT Flier.
T5 Now add Purphoros, God of the Forge
.
July 2, 2014 3:54 p.m.
Ah, okay you meant targeting yourself. I gotcha. Yeah, I'm really excited about getting to play with this card. It's probably best in G/R since you have potential access to burn your own nest for blockers, but I'll probably still be playing G/W...because of me. lol.
July 2, 2014 3:58 p.m.
Limited yes.. Standard no. There's gotta' bee better things to do with 3 mana.

I was considering one of the 3 drop token makers for my wife's Bant walkers because we run Spear of Heliod .
This guy, or Chasm Skulker. Both seem good but the Skulker seems better.

I LOVE this. We now have Boon Satyr , Courser of Kruphix , Reverent Hunter , and this for Mono-green in the 3-drop slot. Very, very flexible.
I think what I like best about this is that it helps you stabilize against aggro until you hit your big drops.
July 2, 2014 4:10 p.m.
trentfaris242: That's essentially what I had in mind. As a midrange player, having both Courser of Kruphix and this to get into T2 with an Elvish Mystic makes me happy. Besides, if I'm going to be ramping into Hornet Queen this just gives me more of a flavorful buildup haha.

"Oh, you're attacking? I'll Chord of Calling for 3..."
July 2, 2014 4:19 p.m.
Lol I saw someone else say that. This standard is proving to be decent for green players and I'm just so excited.

Imagine this guys, R/G fight with Setessan Tactics and this guy.
July 2, 2014 4:55 p.m.
Oh my...i hadnt even thought about fight abilities and this guy. I already play tactics heavily so now im even MORE excited for this card.
July 2, 2014 5:11 p.m.
By the way, this card is pretty legit against monstars and other burn-removal-only decks.
July 2, 2014 5:15 p.m.
Guys do you really think that this card is good to play Standard? Are you crazy??
July 2, 2014 5:28 p.m.
I sure hope it's not good enough, since my future deck can't beat that card.
July 2, 2014 5:31 p.m.
Ohthenoises says... #43
spyroswiz It's not a bad card. Sure it doesn't fly and it dies to removal but then again the same can be said for Polukranos. best case scenario I can see you getting maybe 3-4 tokens from this guy in a game. That many DT blockers is a huge advantage.
July 2, 2014 5:32 p.m.
trentfaris242 says... #44
@spyroswiz Why wouldn't it be with Chord of Calling being in the same colors. He requires an answer and generates card advantage. With 2 creatures out you're talking about fetching this guy for 4 and getting potentially 4 or 5 deathtouch fliers that now also require an answer. All in a color that does better when their win cons aren't the target of every bit of removal in existence.

This card is insane with Swarmyard and Squirrel Nest .
At the very least, it's strictly better than Chimney Imp .
July 2, 2014 5:37 p.m.
It's not very good but it's also really good. If you know what I mean.
July 2, 2014 5:45 p.m.
So this. Shield of the Oversoul , Ajani's Presence etc etc.
Probs go golgari. Throw in Typhoid Rats , maybe Thornweald Archer , or Ambush Viper . Probs throw in some Vampire Nighthawk .
Deathtouch tribal. Not great - but fun.
